Chapter 33 - A lot of Phase IIIs (Part II)

Eo and Reya turned their attention to Easiest Enemy No. 2: The Evil Teddy Bear.

Okay, it wasn't actually a teddy bear, but it was still really evil-looking.

The bear slammed open its mouth to show off its 3 rows of serrated teeth.

"Yeah, they're definitely monsters." Reya electrified another knife.

"Reya, I'm about to wrap it in chains, so get ready for sum uv dat sparky fun."

"Can you stop using weird terms?"

Eo raised his hand up and a giant forest of chains shot out of his palm. It slammed into the bear, pushing it back. Tangiform crawled up the chains at a much faster pace than before, and Eo slapped the bear with the forest of chains.

"SIT DOGGY SIT!"

"That's a bear, not a dog."

"IT DOESn'T MATTer!!!" Eo whacked the monster several times in the face.

"Also this isn't how you're supposed to make dogs sit..."

"Well, it's not a dog."

Reya put a finger on her chin and thought for a moment.

"Good point."

Reya joined in the abuse. She repeatedly slammed electric blasts on the top of its head until the smell of burning flesh filled the air.

Then the bear's patience seemed to snap. Its muscles started tensing, and a horrible grinding could be heard as the chains around it started snapping.

Eo faltered. "Oh yeah, it's a Phase III for a reason…"

When there was one chain left it stopped snapping them. Suddenly, an overflow of essence started to gush around it and envelope its body. Eo and Reya could see the muscles bulging out in growth.

"No," cried Eo. "NOT THE STEROID MONSTERS!"

"That's an anomaly," Reya said. "They're more smarter than regular monsters."

"I know, I've met them before, too."

The bear held the last chain… and then yanked it upwards. Eo, who wasn't paying attention, got yanked along. When Eo was nearing the height of his trajectory, the bear-type slammed the chain downwards. Eo could see Reya's eyes widen in the corner of his vision.

Eo saw the ground race towards him in a blink of an eye.

Somehow, though, time felt much slower. It felt like half a minute rather than barely a second. In that small amount of time, Eo watched his life flash by him.

If Eo could rate the top 10 most boring movies he'd ever seen, his own life would rank at number 1.

Eo saw himself being born to 2 apathetic parents who left him in his grandparent's care. Baby Eo would do nothing but stare at the wall for hours on end, making his grandparents fear he was mentally challenged.

Eo enrolled in a completely normal school where he did completely normal things. In his free time he would do normal free-time things such as listening to music.

In school he would look from the background as he watched other prominent personalities unfold around him. Everyone else took the spotlight, but he didn't really care.

That was, of course, until he found out the savior came. The one chosen by the prophecy.

Eo never really invested much of his own effort into anything. It was really boring. But at the mercenary academy, he found the concept of essence to be extremely interesting. It was one of the first things he tried experimenting with himself.

By the time Kyros had arrived, Eo had already become one of the more adept essence users. Eo knew it, because it was one of the only things he was better at doing than other people.

Not wanting to be outdone by some randy who just walked into the academy doors, Eo accelerated his own experimentation and found out even more useful properties. Eo felt like he was a scientist sometimes.

Eo reminiscenced at these memories with mixed emotions. Then he remembered the ground was racing straight towards him.

He quickly readjusted his limbs, and then slammed face-down into the ground.

(Okay, that hurt.)

Eo's hand twitched. He had tried to prepare for a landing within the time given to him, which was about one second. Of course, it was impossible. Eo's body was smushed against the ground in quite a weird fashion.

He disconnected the chain from himself and rolled onto his back. His face was covered in dirt. The rest of his body wasn't as lucky though, as it hit the hard pavement.

Through his blurry vision he could see Reya picking up the chain and sending a massive shock through it.

Eo muttered something incomprehensible and then passed out.
