Chapter 32 - His Promise

"Noah," She called him and tried to find him in the person who just looks like a shell of the man she once knew. But his hard face was enough to tell her that she was all by herself once again. Why? She wanted to jerk him or yell at him but knew it won't change a thing.

Taking the hold on her crutch she started making her way out of the dining hall. A thousand questions roamed in her. But once out she sank to the floor sobbing.

"I am sorry, I am so sorry," She whispered to her child while leaning her head to the wall behind. No, it can't happen. He can't do this to us. She thought and the moment she saw Noah coming out of the hall she called him, "Noah, Why? Please, tell me you were not serious. I am so scared, Noah, please." She said hoping he will say that he is sorry. Or he didn't mean what he said. He will explain to her that he is happy that they were having a child but no. He just left. A sudden pang of anger took over her.

I won't let this happen. It is not about me anymore. Thinking this she followed him and get to his room saying, "Noah! You need to talk to me. You said you love me. What happened to that?"

"It is nothing. Just a little test. I just want to be sure." He replied getting to his closet. But she followed him to his closet saying, "Wanted to be sure of what? That I am carrying someone else's child or not? How can you think so low of me? Why you can't trust me after, all that time we spent together?"

She waited for his reply but he changed his clothes like she doesn't even exist. This is when she lost it. "I want a divorce." And this made him stop wearing the t-shirt he was getting into.

"I want a divorce and you will get your paternity test." She said with gritted teeth and started to walk away when she heard, "Come again," She turned to find a murderous look as he came even closer. She took her steps back until she felt the wall behind her. Looking at his hovering body on her she said,

"If you want a paternity test, I want a divorce." But this time her voice came breathy and low.

How can he do this to me? To our child? I hate him. She thought but jumped the moment he punched the wall beside her.

"I dare you to try and leave me, Mrs. Miller." She heard him growl.

"And I am not afraid of you, Mr. Miller because I love you." She said with tears in her eyes and he looked at her lost. On finding him silent she added holding his shirt, "I can't be away from you. I don't know why you are so changed? But you can't say you love me and then treat me like some keep at your place. Our child won't,...." With her emotions on the roller-coaster, she was heaving badly and her face cried out as a wave of pain made its way along her ribs.

"What?..." Noah asked but trailed off the moment she lost her conscious and fell in his arms.

"Mr. Miller, she has preeclampsia. A condition in which a woman suffers from high blood pressure whenever she is pregnant. Well, the baby is fine and her blood pressure is under control for now." Mr. Connor replied getting out of Noah's room.

"What would you suggest?" Noah asked,

"Nothing, you can't treat it. It is all about being careful. Let her don't be traumatic or else she can lose the baby." Mr. Connor said making Noah inhale deeply.

Getting in, he looked at her fragile figure. She wasn't thin like her old self but surely lost some pounds. He craved for those words from her mouth every second. And this is when he was destined to hear these words.

Sitting beside her he held her hand and grazed her cheek lightly. But then his stare went to her flat belly.

Carefully he put his hand on her stomach and rubbed it lightly. There were so many times when he waited for this moment in his life. And today when his wife told him that she is pregnant he felt nothing but doubts and hatred.

"Sir, it is true. Mrs. Miller is indeed seeing someone." The words echoed in his brain and a tear fell from his eye.

Looking at his wife's sleeping figure he whispered, "Who is he?"

"No, I shouldn't ask you. You will lie and I swear I will kill you, this time." He said looking at her sleeping body.

Why Sydney? Why? Why? His brain cried while he fisted his hands.

Knowing too well about the anger issues he had, he took long strides out of that room.

"Jasper!" He called getting to the living room.

Not later than a second Jasper came. "You had one job. God Damn it," He screamed but his left hand shook that was on her belly a moment ago.

"I will be careful next time," Jasper's voice came out low. Jasper wanted to ask him why he was coming here if he wanted him to keep her away from him. But he knew that he should be silent at the moment.

"Dr. Connor will stay here. And you will make sure that Miss Brook doesn't have any problem to carry out any of her works here." Jasper heard Noah say and his jaw tightened.

"Sure, no one can deny a Miller's request. I will make sure of it." He answered and Noah knew exactly what he meant but decided to let it slide and get back to his old home.

It was after days that he decided to return. The hallways and the dining area echoed her sobs and muffled screams. All of this was enough to make him left that place once again.

Three days passed and Jasper kept him updated. Last night, he got a call from Jasper. After knowing that she had a seizure attack his heartbeat fastened but then telling himself that she is acting up, he ignored. It explained why her county used to be so indifferent to her.

Miss Brook informed him that Jasper didn't let her get into Sydney's room saying that Mrs. Miller is a Miller and he has the responsibility to carry out her orders too.

Dr. Connor explained how a paternity test cannot be performed before the 9th week of pregnancy. And he decided to wait for the said period of time and plan to be busy at work. But no, nothing was going according to plan. He spent his three days wasted in the suit of one of his hotels.

The sunlight made him stir and he woke up rubbing his eyes. He wanted to check his phone, his emails and get back to work but didn't. And just lay there motionless. He wanted to forget everything. But he couldn't help and miss her kisses, her shy smile and the eyes that have depth and untold secrets. "Huh, Secrets?" She was just deceiving me all this time.

No, Noah, it wasn't her mistake. You were the one who decided to trust a w*ore this time.

How can I be so fu*king blind? He thought.

His phone vibrated for the third time and he finally picked up,

"Hello," He said. Irritation was laced in his voice. He knew it was going to be nothing. Like all the other times, they would say we couldn't find that person.

"Mr. Miller there is something entirely different," He heard the person say and froze.

Sydney woke up in her room alone. It wasn't something new. She felt thirsty and hungry and knew no one will come even if she would try this bell. That nurse was really weird.

So, she made her way around her bed. Unlike the last three days, she didn't feel weak, today. And the weather seems brighter than any other day. Getting down the stairs she startled. Those stairs were so familiar. She looked back and it was not that beach house anymore. It was her house.

"Sydney!" She heard her father say and ran to get to her kitchen. Her father was wearing his favorite light blue shirt and busy setting the table for her.

"Daddy," She said and wasted no time to hug him,

"Is everything fine?" He asked worried,

Sydney looked up just to make sure that it was real. She couldn't reply to her father and looked at him without blinking.

"What's wrong with her?" She heard someone say and turned to find a woman who looks just like her except her brown orbs.

"I am so sorry love; the line was too long in the mart." Her mom said as she unloaded the bags on the table before coming to Sydney and places a peck on her forehead.

"Mom," She whispered,

"Honey, why you haven't eaten anything? You shouldn't skip food when you are already this month past." She heard her mom say and look at her belly to find a huge bulge that wasn't anywhere before.

She wondered why but her mother pulled a chair for her to sit. Her belly was huge making it difficult for her to sit comfortably but noticed the feast on the table. The aroma of the food made the air warm and heavy. Her stomach growled looking at the feast.

"Oh honey, our twins are hungry." Her mother chirped and Sydney looked at her blankly.

"I am so proud of you my girl," She heard her father say and she looked at him wide eyes. Still unsure of what was happening she asked, "Am I dead?"

But found no response from her parents. They filled her plate all the while talking about how excited they are to hold their twins.

This is when she noticed Adi standing in the corner silently and doing nothing. "Adi?" She called,

"I will help you, trust me, nothing will happen to you," Adi said and Sydney looked at her blankly but turning her face to her parents she found the chairs empty.

There were no parents, no lights, and it felt cold. So, cold that she couldn't stop shivering. For a second she thought she was having a seizure attack but no, she had her conscious. She tried to stand up but fell to find herself in the kitchen of Blake's. It was that thundering storm again when she was so badly beaten and couldn't make her way to her room.

"Mom, I am scared," She heard a voice coming from her grown belly.

"What the hell is going on here?" She heard Isabella's roar but before she could move Isabella switched on the lights and Sydney saw the blood in her eyes.

"Who's bastard you are carrying, you slut!" She saw Isabella storming to her with her whip. But before that lash could land on her she turned her back to that strike.

"I will save you, save you, save,..." She whispered to herself and made her way out of the kitchen. The barn house haunted her and she ends up running into the fields.

"I don't know what my brother saw in you." She heard Isabella scream,

The storm was insane but her house came into the view so soon. She reached to her place hoping she is safe but noticed that there was no belly anymore.

Making her way into her house she felt beyond tired and weak. Her wet hair was making a mess on the floor. She didn't find her parents around but house seems cleaned and not untidy. The storm wasn't the thing anymore but that eerie silence made her heart beat fast.

"Mom," She heard someone sobbing. But the voice was coming from upstairs. She made her way up until her room came into her view. There she saw a little girl in the room. Her long auburn hair fell past her shoulders while her big blue eyes were the epitome of innocence. But the girl looked scared and lonely. "Who are you?" Sydney asked,

"Save me, please, mom," She heard that child sob to her but before she could take a step forward the door slammed shut.

It was all too known. She knew what was happening. "My daughter," She whispered before banging that door with all her might. "Leave her," She screamed, "Please, leave her, No, please,...." She screamed all the while banging that door sobbing.

***********

"...Sydney, please, just this once," She heard someone say and opened her eyes to find herself in the arms of the person she loved the most. She was sitting on her bed and Noah was jerking her. She was still banging her fist into him but then realized, My daughter.

"Noah, he is taking my daughter away. Please, they, they will kill her," She fisted his shirt while fat tears spilled from her eyes. Her body was soaked in the sweat while she felt beyond weak.

"There is no one, honey. There is no one. You were just dreaming." He tried to relax her but she busted like a madwoman screaming. "This is not a dream. They will come and kill my children. Our children, Noah! Why you can't get this simple thing?"

He didn't know what she was referring to but was taken aback by her. "I will destroy the hands who will ever try to harm my heirs. I will literally annihilate them."

"Then, do it," She asked,

"You have my words." He replied and she came forward to hug him. He hugged her sobbing body and whispered caressing her back.

"I promise you, I will leave them with nothing."
