Confused, I refused to not get an explanation after all of this. Once more, I asked her, "What do you know about me? About the gaps in my memory?" The entire time I was just trying to continue on and live life without worries. All this time, all I ever thought of was getting through each day, have fun and do things normal college students do. But, ever since I found out about the rifts in my memory, I just couldn't not care about it. All these events happening to me, all the weird, unclassified, unknown things just randomly coming up for me.
I sometimes catch myself practically daydreaming while staring at nothingness or just into empty space.
"What happened to me? How do you know me before I even got to meet you? Who are you really? What's our relationship? Why do you know things about my memory that I didn't even know nor told anyone about? Why do you keep acting like we're very familiar with each other? Why? WHO ARE YOU AND WHO AM I?" I ask her desperately.
"Jake, you saved me."
"What? Saved you? From what?"
"When we were both younger, I decided to leave my household. It was winter that night, and it was freezing and numbingly cold. I tried to find a place to sleep, but surely enough, it really wasn't easy."
"Okay? So how did I save you?"
"You and your family were coming home that night. You were the one who saw me laying near a garbage dump box (Yeah I know, it reeked nasty smells, but I had to bear with it because of the cold). You were the one who told your parents to take me in."
"So then, what happened next?"
"I lived with you and your family for quite some time, but at some point I realized how much of a burden I was putting on you and your family so I once again left when I had the chance."
"Hey, are you crazy? You left again? Did you have any money or anyone who would support you?"
"I saved up some cash. I just did not want to inconvenience your family any longer."
"Was that it? What about my memory rifts? Do you know anything about them?"
"A few days since my departure from the household, your mom called me and said that you had a terrible accident. I basically was very far from the hospital she said, and it was midnight and the bus was no longer running. I had a considerably low amount of money at that time and I couldn't spend too much any longer. So I decided to run through 15 kilometers of distance to get to you."
"Hey, stop exaggerating. What are you, the Flash?"
"I'm not exaggerating at the very least. I got to the hospital at about 1-2 hours drenched in overflowing riverlike sweat."
"Why run? You could have just visited the next morning or afternoon."
"You still don't get it, do you?"
"Don't get what?"
"Are you really gonna make me say this?"
"Well, we can't play the guessing game or mind-reading game forever now, can we?"
"Fine."
"I'm all ears."
"I really liked you then Jake. I still do."
"I..."
"It's okay. You don't have to give me any replies, I just told you because you wanted to know. It's not like I expect anything in return."
"If you really still like me, why choose to hide everything? And... my mom, why did she hide it from me as well?"
"That, I don't know. She told me back then that everything was alright with you."
"That's what I thought too."
"Anyways, now you know. Would you please stop referring to me as a psychopath?", she said with a subtle giggle.
"Of course.... Rose."
She smiled. It was a very genuine smile. I could tell that she was happy and that a huge burden has been lifted off her shoulders. I thanked her and walked her home. I guess that was the first time I came to her home. After saying our goodbyes, I went back home. My mom was staying in the living room looking anxious. I approached her and told her.
"I remember everything. We need to talk mom."
