"Wait! Are you serious about that?" Joshua Gonzaléz asked.
"Apparently, yes! Yesterday was just crazy. I didn't expect that things would turn out that way."
That afternoon, Jiayi, Joshua, and Xyrin decided to meet in a classic café owned by the Han family.
Xyrin decided to tell them everything. They are her best friends after all.
She met Josh three years ago, three days after she arrived in that foreign country. He was striking, neat, handsome, and confident, as he is now. No, that's not true. He is manlier, more confident, and better than before. He has qualities that are almost equal to perfection. And those qualities caught her eyes before.
She was looking for a job abroad back then. After a few minutes of getting to know each other, she asked him to work for her. He couldn't believe her. He scrutinized her from head to toe. Work for her? Yet she's here, seeking for a job. What nonsense could she possibly be saying? But then, before that day ended, she was able to convince him.
Their friendship started from their first meeting and it grew stronger and stronger each day. He is a genuine treasure and a true gentleman. And she's too lucky that she has him.
"Why did you agree?" Josh asked, his voice bringing her back to the present time.
"Because she wants to be with him!" Jiayi concluded.
"No!" Josh and Xyrin said in chorus.
Jiayi just raised her eyebrow.
"If not, then, why did you agree?" Jiayi asked.
"I had no choice! My parents decided on the matter. I had no voice at it at all."
"You're impossible!" Josh exclaimed, irritated.
"You were able to live independently abroad for three years but now, you're saying that you agreed to let them decide on your life?"
"I'd been thinking of my own self and living my own life for the past three years. That's why, just this once, I'll let them have what they want. Besides, compared to the three years of worries that I let them have. This is just three months to suffice their demands. After that, I'll live my life as I please."
"Is that really you?" Josh asked, disbelieving every word that she's saying.
Xyrin laughed bitterly.
"Don't worry. Just for three months and this absurdity will be over."
"Want to bet?" Jiayi asked Josh.
"Bet about what?"
"I'll bet that she's not really over him."
"I am," Xyrin said glaring.
"Then, let me change it. If this will make you feel better. I bet that you'll fall in love with him again."
"N-E-V-E-R! Never." Xyrin said, emphasizing what she meant.
"I'll bet against that, Sis. She's not going to love him again. She'd be foolish enough if she does. Besides, she met men who are more handsome than him, wealthier even." Josh said smiling.
"But did she care? She never did, right? That just heightened my chance of winning."
"Not a chance!" Josh said.
"You're seriously betting about me, right on my face?"
"That's what real friends are," Jiayi said.
Jiayi and Josh laughed in unison.
"Unbelievable." Xyrin complained.
