Being caught in the middle was the worst feeling ever that we could feel as a human being. Especially if you have to choose between the two people that you really care.
A broken-home child will have to choose between his or her parents. A working mother have to choose to let her child have a better life or choose to care for her kids herself but perhaps need to have a tighter budget. All in all, it is truly suffocating to be caught in between whatever the situation is.
Thus, at that moment, Joyce felt oppressed by the gloomy situation.
Jayden stroked her back in a rhythmic motion to pacify her. He understood that it must be quite hard for Joyce to keep their relationship a secret from the person closest to her.
Jayden squated down in front of her. Gently raised her face by raising her chin tenderly. He looked at her earnestly before started saying, "I am sorry. I will try my best to think about this carefully. However, no matter my decision, you'll only need to be sure of my feeling for you. That you are the one I have in my heart. Whatever I decide, it'll only be because of you."
Then he used both thumbs to wipe sway the tears from Joyce's face. Joyce was staring at Jayden quietly. She suddenly had the urge to be closer to him and unknowingly, she pecked his cheek.
Jayden was frozen in shock.
Joyce turned red and quickly took her bag and tried to walk away while blabbering vaguely.
When she was a few steps away, Jayden sprang into action and hugged her from the back. It was Joyce's turn to be glued on the floor. She was nervous and embarrassed at the same time.
Then he whispered,"I love you." and her already crasy heart turned chaotic and spread warmth to her whole body. She then hold his hand that was still hugging her and replied," I love you too."
"Let's stay like this for awhile." and he placed his chin on one of her shoulder.
Both standing in that position for a while. How both wish that the situation was different that they both could come clean about their relationship and be happy.
After Jayden sent Joyce home, he sat at the park alone comtemplating what kind of decision he should take for the best and decided that he wouldn't be able to lie no matter what the situation or condition was. It was against his principal and also against his nature. It would be hard to keep the act up because he could not lie. Therefore, he called Mrs. Chua.
They set up a meeting and agreed to meet on the agreed time at the hospital. He decided that he would explain to her that he liked another person and it would be hard for him to lie about his feeling. Anyway, lying to Lily would be unfair to her. She deserved better.
It was that easy. Right?
---------
Mrs. Chua was walking nervously and skittishly around. She was waiting for Jayden to arrive. Even though it would be another hour before he came, she was already full of anticipation and hope.
Lily was still resting after her chemotheraphy just now, so Mrs. Chua tried to keep herself as quiet as possible. Suddenly Dr.Goh came in.
"Mrs.Chua. Can I speak to you urgently? and perhaps it would be better if Mr.Chu is present as well."
Looking at the doctor's grave expression, she suddenly had a bad premonition.
With trembling fingers, she slowly punched in Mr.Chua's phone number and told him that Dr.Goh required his presence immediately.
Fifteen minutes later, both parents entered Dr. Goh's office.
---------
Joyce and Jayden had just arrived at the hospital when they saw both Mr. and Mrs. Chua came out from the doctor's office. Mrs.Chua was extremely frail looking and was crying incessantly. Mr.Chua was looking hopelessly at his grieving wife but could not do anything.
Jayden and Joyce looked at each other and immediately went to them. Upon seeing them, Mrs.Chua was becoming more and more agitated and walked towards Jayden then suddenly fell on her knee and begged Jayden. She caught both of his trousers tightly.
"Pleaseeee..... Pleaseeee help my little girl....." and Mrs.Chua passed out after saying this. Surprised Jayden and Joyce quickly carried her up and called for the nurse.
She was laid gently on the bed for the emergency room and was checked by Dr.Goh. After he had confirmed that Mrs.Chua was okay, Dr.Goh looked at Mr. Chua and said," She needs to rest more. She is under extreme stress right now."
"Yes Dr. Thank you." Mr.Chua said gratefully and looked at his sleeping wife looking grief-stricken.
"What happened, uncle?" Joyce asked.grimly. She was shocked at this unexpected turn of event.
Mr. Chua found a chair and sat down beside his wife at the bed side. He held her hand with both of his hand. Then he looked at her. He was staring into space when he suddenly said " Lily had a graft failure."
"Graft failure?" Joyce asked questioningly.
"Yes. Primary graft failure. Her body does not respond to the bone-marrow transplant and now started to reject the donor's bone marrow." He said while still looking at his wife's peaceful face. The prace that would soon be grabbed away once she woke up.
"Oh My God!" Joyce covered her mouth with one of her hand in disbelieve. Her tears started to form and her shoulder was quivering in sadness. She couldn't believe that this could happen to Lily.
Jayden was speechless. He stared dumbly at both Joyce and Mr.Chua.
------
Mrs.Chua started to move. Mr.Chua sat up straight immediately and called her gently. "Elaine?"
He carefully brushed her hair aside and called her again.
Mrs.Chua slowly opened her eyes in daze.
"Where am I?" She asked Mr.Chua in confusion.
"You are at the emergency room. You suddenly fainted just now..." Mr.Chua reminded her carefully.
"How can I...." she scrunched up her face and all the memories before she fainted rushing in...
She covered her mouth and her eyes started to tear up. "Lily.... Oh my poor baby...." tears started rolling down. She was crying and gasping for air as if suffocated by the grief.
Then she finally realized that Joyce and Jayden were there. Jayden was here!
She tried to get up in her weak state and Jayden and Mr Chua quickly went to assist her.
"Will you help her???" She looked at him. She had the bewildered look in her eyes as if she was hanging by the thin thread of hope. If she let go of this thread, her mind might snapped.
Jayden was caught in between telling her the truth and comforting her. In confusion, he unconsciously looked at Joyce. Joyce looked at him and secretly nodded her head in approval. She gestured "Go ahead" with her head secretly. It would be impossible to refuse her request at this moment or Mrs.Chua might just gone mad from worrying. It was more important to appease her and gave her a peace of mind.
When Jayden did not reply after some period of time, Mrs.Chua suddenly let go of his hand and looked down. Then, She nervously looked around as if on the verge of losing her mind in confusion.
"Yes. I will help Lily." Jayden finally relented. Although it might go against his conscience but he shouldn't be selfish and at that moment, how he felt was not important. He was thinking about how to help the lady in front of him. If he refused, she would surely fell into a state of despair and lost all hope and might be in worse condition than her daughter. In turn, it may cause harm to both mother and daughter.
