Chapter 7 - Defus

(Two days after the battle)

Dan: Sir, all clear here.

Captains: (Nods) Good works, men.

Jek: (Looks around in ease) Sir, is this all that they can do? Quite disappointing. I think I can kill my way to their capital all by myself.

Captains: (Frowns) Jek, don't let your guard down so easily. We'll have to report to the prince before any conclusions.

Jek: (Whispers to Dan) And they kept telling us how strong and scary those Defus are. We practically aced them!

Dan: Maybe it was their trick. We shouldn't underestimate them. They didn't bring any magicians or strong weapons. I also don't see any generals or captains, it was like the soldiers came to fight with bare arms.

Jek: Well, they always looked down on us, they probably thought we were so weak that they could defeat us without using any strong forces. Hah, dumbass!

Dan: ...

Jek: Hey, what are you daydreaming about? (Knocks on Dan's shoulders) Ahhhh, I know. You're thinking about your little girlfriend again, aren't you?

Dan: (Blush) Gosh, shut up. You're so annoying sometimes, this is a serious situation!

Jek: What about your girlfriend is not serious? Romance should count as serious topics too! Just look at me, I've gone to hundreds of blind dates but I'm still single as hell. I would usually talk about it like a joke and laugh it out but it's really getting serious now. I'm going to end up single to death. Seriously.

Dan: Maybe you should stop with your bad jokes and you'll be able to find a decent woman.

Jek: Heck no, I need a woman who can understand my jokes. Or else she'll just be as boring as you. Ew, two Dans in my life sounds horrible.

Dan: (Mumbles) One Jek is already giving me headaches.

(Far away in the broken city stands Prince Loki with his guards and several generals, searching on the dead bodies of the Frendrilk soldiers. One of the soldier captains riding on a horse approaches them.)

Loki: (Glances at the coming Captain) Any findings?

Captain: (Gets down from the horse and bows) Your highness. I've ordered my men to search through the bodies of the Defus corpses. I originally attempted to keep some captives, but they refused to surrender and suicided when we tried to take them by force.

Captain: We had no choice but to try to find some evidence through their corpses. (Nervous) Unfortunately, we weren't able to find anything. We were hoping to find clues about their general that led the army, but as if vanished, there were no trails of him. I'm afraid they have developed some kind of advanced magic that is able to erase the traces of a person's existence, your highness.

Loki: (Looks back at his own guards) Any findings here?

Soldier: No, your majesty.

General 1: Abnormal... I have no clue what the Frendrilks are thinking.

General 2: They are always heavily armed, and carried many potions on them. Every single battle that we fought with them was harsh and long, their soldiers and generals are well skilled. I have never met any Frendrilk army that wears this kind of armor and to fight with such a childish strategy.

General 3: Moreover, I still can't understand their motives for launching this attack. They certainly weren't looking to destroy us, there wasn't a single sign of the Hades Knights, and they didn't even bring any kind of advanced weapon or powerful magicians. But what other reason would there be for them to risk this kind of humiliation to attack us? What do they want?

Loki: ...Keep this discussion back to the palace. For now, we won this battle and the news has to be declared.

Generals: Understood.

Loki: (Talks to himself) Frendrilk... Kingdom of Devil. You really crave for the blood of our people, our cries and our screams, to satisfy your own greed. But you will never be satisfied, always hungry for more. And that greed will soon finish your glorious kingdom.
