We wandered the streets. Darting between and around boots. We headed to the woods. Nalia stopped in front of me. I ran into her.
"Nalia!" I whined. I peered around her. I forgot about the guards. They guarded the woods. They say that our terrible beast in there. But, we have never spotted any.
"It's not the usual Guard that lets us by," she said. She started your retreat.
"Oh no you don't! Let's just walk by, here I'll go first," I said, calming her down. I pushed her aside gently and walked on. Right when I was about to pass him, his arm flung and out and grabbed me. I twisted but he turned as if he knew what I was doing. Before I even knew it, his arms were around me and I was getting smooshed against his chest. I managed to pop my head out and look at him. I saw his blue eyes with green near The hue. I did the first defensive move I could think of... poke those eyes to death. I pulled my head back and one of his hands flew up to stop me. I pulled arm free and shoved my thumbs into his eyes. I pushed him wait. I looked up to see him grip his right eye. He cleared at me with his good eye.
"Why did you do that?!" he asked, clenching his teeth.
"You attacked me!" I yelled back.
"You almost went to the woods. I can't let you get hurt. It's my job to protect you from…" He tried to explain.
"The…the... Monsters?" I said looking terrified. He smiled.
"Yep. But don't worry I won't let them hurt you," he said, puffing his chest out.
"You're so full of crap," I said rolling my eyes. I heard a giggle and turned around to Nalia trying to hide her smile. I grinned at her.
"At least my attitude isn't crappy," I heard him stay behind me. I turn to look at him.
"At least I'm not full of myself and to cocky thanks," I said. I grabbed Nalia by her upper arm and walked past him. We soon arrived at our hideout. It was four huge trees growing in a square. We're ended up putting wood wooden boards around it. But left a space for a door. And a couple spots for windows. Then we had some long, thick sticks reaching upwards to make a supportive base for the roof. Finally, we put the boards on top and used our homemade glue to put leaves and dirt with rocks on it to camouflage it like a tree. I pushed aside the blanket that serves as the door. I walked in and smelt pine. We left some pine cones hanging in the corner. We discovered that if you hang flowers or anything with a good scents, it makes the area smell good. We decided to name it for a breeze or centers. I looked over at Jared, he was laying down on our big blanket bed. I walked over and squatted next to him. I gently poked his face. He moved his head to look at me.He smiled and opened his mouth to talk to me. I pulled back my hand back and smacked him hard.
"Wake up sunshine!" I yelled at him. I poked him again. He swatted my hands away and sat up.
"I was gonna say thanks but never mind now," he said glaring at me. He rubbed his red cheek.
"Thanks for what?" I asked.
"For giving me mercy…" he said slowly.
"Mercy?" I asked innocently.
"I'm not playing your stupid game," he sighed. I laughed at how quickly he gave up.
"You guys fight like a old couple. Shut up already," Nalia grumbled.
"Ew!" we both yelled, pushing each other away. Nalia walked over to jared and sat down. They started whispering loudly. When they saw I was trying to listen, they quieted down more. I stuck my tongue out at them and walked out the door. I signed, breathing in the cool, fresh, air. It was now getting dark. The sunset was pink, orange, red, and blue today. We have a weird aurora in our kingdom. So usually the sky is every color or every color. But not tonight, it was breathtaking. I heard howling in the distance. At first I didn't pay attention until I noticed it getting closer… and over the border. I ran in our makeshift hut. Both Nalia and Jared jumped.
"Whats wrong with you? Di a bug scare you?" snickered Jared. Nalia smacked him. He laughed.
"Wolves," I said once, grabbing any food and throwing it out the hut and cross our trench.
"So?" Nalia asked.
"Our wolves don't cross the border. Theses ones did," I stated. Jared's eyes widened.
"We need to go now!" Jared yelled.
"What's the big deal. We have knives and you're sword and bow…" she said thinking.
"You don't really known anything about animals or these woods. Do you?" asked jared. He was helping me pack. She signed, frustrated with the answers she was receiving.
"It means there the wolves from the mountain," I said without any patience.
"For the last time we have weapons!" she yelled.
"Those won't help much Summer. Mountain wolves are huge and mean. There pelts are almost indestructible. Only a special guard sword can leave a scratch on them!" I yelled. A twig cracked, Jared came besides me and grabbed my hand to get my attention. He put his finger to his lips to quiet me. I nodded. Nalia came over and stood besides me. I looked at the window and saw a black figure flash by. Another twig snapped. It was behind us at the entrance,. I could hear it sniffing the ground. I jolted towards our tiny underground tunnel. It was so small we had to crawl. I shoved them threw. I heard a crash behind me. I dove in but felt claws rake into my left leg. I looked back to see huge yellow eyes glaring at me hundrily. Then the ground shook from a huge roar.
