Chapter 37 - The incoherent ramblings of a tired mess -Chapter 30-

I can't sleep.

I know, I know, that might not seem too weird, but for me, it is. A slime doesn't actually need sleep to function, like, at all, but that doesn't mean I can't. I usually sleep because it just... feels right! You know? But right now, I can't. Maybe it's because today was so busy... Right, you probably wanna know all that happened, and I'll get to that! Just, I wanna talk-- or, really, think, about some stuff first.

However... before anything, let's check my status! I killed all those undead monsters, after all.

Huh...? I only rose one level after beating all of those monsters? Jeez, levelling up is gonna get a lot stronger from here... Either way, I got three new skills, and all from the names alone, they seem like they could be pretty useful!

Either way, I should appraise them. As usual when appraising something, a thin transparent screen appeared in front of me, lighting up the dark room I was in. Almost instantly after, white and fancy text slowly appeared, explaining to me what each skill does.

After a bit, I completed reading the wall of text in front of me. And... Jeez, dude! These skills are super good!

To start off, Fear Inducement is a bit like that skill that Ice Wolf had all the way back in the cave I was born... Huh, that feels like so long ago, but it was maybe only a couple months ago! Anyway, it's exactly how the skill sounds from the name, it induces fear in a creature that's intelligent enough to actually feel fear... Though it's only level two like one of the other skills, so it's probably not going to be too effective at the moment.

Next, Enhanced Digestion... It enhances digestion. Pretty self-explanatory... That actually gives me an idea, though. Would the skill work with Gluttony? You know, make it absorb... creatures faster?

{Question received; correct. Skill: Enhanced Digestion will enhance skill: Gluttony by increasing it's corrosive and absorption abilities by an estimated 20% at its current level.}

Huh? Really? Interesting... So some skills can work together to be better and stuff? That's good to know, I guess.

But I digress... Finally, there's Body Reattachment! And, to be honest, it's definitely gotta be the best out of all of the new skills I got! Again, like all the rest, it's pretty much exactly how it sounds. Even if it's my head, I can reattach any part of my body that is cut off! Though, I probably didn't need to explain that... Anyway! The body part will become weaker once reattached, so, that's where Lesser Regeneration comes in! The skill will heal it right up! And at the same time, gaining experience to level up! So, that gives me a really good idea! If I cut off a finger or something, Body Reattachment will let me reattach the injured part (Gaining experience for the skill at the same time), and then Lesser Regeneration will quickly heal it, then like I said before, gain experience! It's a perfect idea!

Ahem, anyway...

Let's discuss what I and Ai did after the whole Necromancer stuff! So, we managed to find the Woman and tied her up! Don't underestimate all the random stuff I have inside of Gluttony's storage! Seriously, it's becoming a problem... I'm getting off track!

So, we returned to the capital with Necromancer in tow. We went back to the original guard station with the stressed-out looking guy. You know, the one who made the two gold coins appear out of nowhere? Apparently, he wasn't there, so that guy named Geard or something took her and gave us the money. Despite not saying a word to us, he's a pretty nice guy!

Anyway, we left the place, and started number two on the to-do list! You know, get some mana cores so I could actually have mana. But I digress. After searching around the commercial area of The Capital, we managed to find a vendor that was selling some... The only problem was how expensive they were. Seriously! A super small one was like... twenty silver! I guess it's true that you can only get them from c-rank or higher monsters... but still! Either way, I bought two medium-sized ones, (which was one gold coin all together) and just sorta, consumed them, I guess! I didn't put them in my storage, I mean. I just kinda ate them and I gained more mana! It worked kinda like how I used to convert my hp in mana... just without, you know, the whole converting part.

After that, it was time to obtain some books about magic! For that, we stayed in the trading/commercial area of The Capital. However, this time, I didn't exactly know what to look for... I mean, I didn't know if there were book stores in this place! However, luckily enough, there were! EXCEPT, THEY WERE EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE MANA CORES! Like, seriously?! Come on! They're just books but one about magic and stuff was a whole two gold!

Honestly, I might have thought about just stealing for a bit... but I didn't! I'm no criminal, and if I was caught a whole bunch of bad stuff would happen! Like, for example, my adventuring license would be revoked and I'd be jobless!

Even so, I bought one book simply titled 'Magic 101.' Pretty great name, huh?

Anyway, after that long day, we made it back to the inn... and here we are now! Hah... that took a while, but now it's done and over with! The only thing now to do is read this damn book!

However, there's one problem I didn't think of when I got this book!

I can't read this language. You heard me, I. Can't. Read. it.

So, now, I'm stuck with this wealth of knowledge I can't even tap into! I mean, the only thing I can do now is to try and learn how to read or ask Ai to read it to me... Nope! That's not gonna happen! That'd be way too embarrassing.

Hmm... there's one more option... I could try and decipher it myself! I mean, the letters are different and stuff, but there seems to be only thirty-two! If I can figure out the pronunciation of each from the bit of the language I've heard, I could sound out the words, and the 'something language understanding' skill should do the rest! Hah-Hah-Hah! I'm a genius!

So... let's open this book up! I remove it from Gluttony, opening it...

...

I can't do this, it's way too complicated. I've been sitting on this bed for a straight two hours, and I still can't understand even one symbol in this damn book! Looks like I have no choice, I have to... Ask Gamma for help instead!

Oh, Gammaaaa? Could you maybe... translate this for me? Or... is that not allowed and or you don't know the language...?

[No, I'm not going to.]

What? Huh? Come on, man! It's just a small favour!

[One I'm not gonna do.]

Why not?! It'll take you no time at all! Probably! I wouldn't know...

[First of all, all I'm supposed to do is keep you from going insane while you were stuck in nature without any human company. So, I'm pretty much useless now! You don't even need me, so, if you need anything, why don't you refer to the other one.]

Shoot... uh, that's actually, pretty depressing. Sorry? I mean, that would really suck...

[Psh... Fine, I'll do it. However, it'll cost you five hundred credits, and it will take all night to complete. So, you'll have to... wait till tomorrow, I guess.]

Huh? Damn! That's really out of character for you, but thanks! And it's not like I'll be using those for anything... but all night? Guess I'll just... have to try and fall asleep.

[Chapter 30, end.]
