Chapter 18 - Who's following me?! -Chapter 16-

WOOHOO! I'VE FINALLY MADE IT! A VILLAGE! FINALLY, I CAN RELAX IN A COMFORTABLE BED! I CAN'T WAI--

[SHUT THE HELL UP! I'M TRYING TO SLEEP!]

oh, sorry... Wait, you can sleep?

[... No.]

Sure, man, sure.

Moving on, I haven't really reached my destination of some sort of town or kingdom, but this is a good step towards that... But what's really great about this is... Books! Information beyond my imagination. You know, I don't know much about this world, so information is vital for me.

Maybe even... I could learn some fundamentals of magiccccc? I'll definitely not learn magic right off the bat, but I wanna at least start! Imagine how cool I would be! Sayin' stuff like 'ARCANE BLIZZARD!' Or, or! 'HELL BLAZE!'

Heh-heh-heh! I can't wait.

[You're so god damn oblivious.]

Hey! What's that supposed to mean?!

[I mean what I mean! You don't even have any Mana, idiot!]

Pshh, shut up! I'll probably get some mana if I evolve... probably.

[You don't understand anything, do you? You'd have to evolve to have a mana core, something only rank C and up monsters have. You're only a rank E monster, you'd have to evolve at least two times. Or you could evolve to specialize in magic, which would be stupid since you could just use gluttony on a monster that can use magic.]

Oh, thanks.

[No problem you physical manifestation of all living morons.]

... I'm gonna just ignore that weird insult.

Anyway, right now I'm exploring this village… Let's see here… Blacksmith shop, food stands, other stuff, inn… INN! Well, I'm assuming it is, I can't really read… But it sure does look like one!

"Hey, Ai, let's go in!"

"Yes."

Gosh… She sure does talk like Alpha, doesn't she?

We walked in, being greeted by a woman sitting at a desk directly in front of the entrance door.

"Welcome to the Greena Inn! Would you like to book a room?" She asked me, actin' all polite… Well, I mean it is her job.

"Yep!" I responded, I, myself acting like I wasn't freaking out inside from this conversation.

"That's great…! But, may I ask, how old are you?"

fuck.

D-DO I LIE? I mean, my voice alone wouldn't convince someone I'm an adult… No, maybe adults aren't like… Eighteen and up here? Would I even have to be an adult? I don't know, man, I haven't done this before! Okay… I can pass off as at least sixteen, right? Hahhh… Hopefully. I mean, technically I'm not even a year old in this world! Okay, okay, just say it!

"... Sixteen?"

"Ah, so you are an adult, I hope it's not rude of me to say, but your voice is a bit… Misleading."

Are you saying I don't sound sixteen? Wow, okay, rude, lady. And I thought you were nice, hmph! But I wouldn't say that out loud, of course.

She cleared her throat, "Ahem, how many nights would you like to be staying here? And also how many beds? It's 2 copper per night for a one night room, and double that for two."

BIGGER FUCK.

Ohhhhh, god. D-do I have money?

{Request confirmed, checking Gluttony >Storage< For currency… Found, 1 Gold coin, 32 Silver coins, and exactly 78 copper.}

Oh, phew! I couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief, I stuck my hand in one of my pockets while pretending to grab some money while actually taking 4 copper out of Gluttony's storage. I put them on the table.

"We'll be staying for one night, two beds, thank you."

"Okay! Here's your room key, sir!" She handed me a small wooden key with the numbers '48' imprinted on it, "Your room number is Forty-eight, it's on the next floor."

I nodded, leaving to check out the room. Ai followed me… Of course. We ended up there. I unlocked the door with the key, to be greeted with... A relatively nice room! Two beds, a window with the morning sun's light gleaming through, a table with some chairs... Anddd, that was all. Simple, but in the good kinda way! Like a cozy small cabin.

"Okayyy, Ai, I've gotta go do... something-- You just, uh, stay here."

She nodded, me leaving right after. 'Where am I going?' You might ask, well, I don't know. I should probably search for somewhere that could be important...

Hm… Looking around this place a bit more, there's not much stuff here. Well, like… Buildings and stuff! Aw, gosh… Did I find myself lost?

{Yes.}

Oh, I see-- Wait, how the hell do you know?

{Observation.}

... Observing what?

{Everything.}

Damn, only one-word answers from you, huh?

{...}

Tsk, tsk, fine then! I'll just retrace my steps until I find my way back! That shouldn't be... too hard...

On second thought... I'm being followed right now.

Lemme explain, as you might know, the skill Mana sense, a skill that allows me to sense mana in the air or other entities is a passive skill, meaning it's always active. You see, Mana Sense is one of the most overpowered fucking skills I have. Since it automatically senses mana in a twenty-foot radius around me, or more if I use mana on the skill, if somebody has even a bit of mana, I'll be able to pinpoint their location! Well, a good estimate of their location, at least.

Now, the only question isssss... Who the hell's following me!? Like, come on, I'm a complete nobody! Okay, okay, I look a bit suspicious, but seriously?

Hah... From what I can tell, there's maybe three? Around that, anyways. It's kinda hard to tell, okay! Yeah, it's pretty good, but it's not super accurate. Hmm... Let's see. They're maybe around, 12 feet behind me, and maybe 2 feet to the right, behind a house.

What do they even want with me... That woman, she said that some people had their eyes on me? What did she even mean? Okayyyy, now's not the time!

Okay, there's two possibilities here! Number one! They wanna kill me... Now that would be the less desired possibility... Now, Number two is just that they're gonna watch me which would just be annoying honestly.

... I can feel them watching meeee... Ugh, it'd be stupid of me to make them aware that I know they're there. If they're strong or something, they could easily kill me, no matter what tricks I use.

I'll just go back to the inn... Once we leave this place, it'll be harder for them to follow.

[Chapter 16, end.]
