Chapter 35 - Another Childhood Friend

Keita walked towards Kanade who's waiting for him.

"Let's go home then." Keita said as he started walking out of school. Kanade, who's still changing her shoes catches up with him after a while.

"It makes me happy that Mio-chan can see you again!" Kanade said.

"I thought the same too. She seems, energetic now." Keita said.

"Really? Now you mentioned about it, she's really energetic today, I wonder why." Kanade said.

"I wonder too..." Keita, who somehow knows the reason averts his gaze. As they walked, they saw an advertisement of a new cafe opened near the station.

"Oh, this cafe just opened last week, let's give it a shot!" Kanade urged. Her mouth watered by just thinking of the desserts. Having no choice, Keita tagged along.

"Welcome!" A woman said as they opened the door. Apparently, she is the owner of the cafe too. There is a bell attached to the door that rings as someone opens or close the door. The designs in the cafe is comfy, seems like a good place to visit occasionally.

"Hopefully it's not filled with normies." Keita thought.

"Aha! I want this, this and this!" Kanade said.

"Alright, coming up in a few minutes!" The owner said. Kanade's mouth started watering as she was looking forward with the food and desserts she ordered. Keita on the other hand started his Puzzle Hazard and attempts to clear the levels he didn't manage to clear yesterday.

As the food is served, Kanade happily feeds herself with the food, while Keita puts his phone away and began eating as well.

"What a nice place you have here, ma'am." Keita said.

"Ah, I worked as an interior designer before I decided to quit, so I had some colleagues helped me out here. I'm proud of it." The owner said.

"That's so awesome!" Kanade exclaimed.

"Wait, my daughter upstairs haven't eaten her lunch yet, I'm going to cook something for her. Please enjoy yourselves." The owner said as she excuses herself into the kitchen and began cooking.

"So the owner has a daughter, I wonder how old she is." Kanade wonders.

"It's none of your business, just finish up and go home already." Keita, who had already finished eating picks up his phone and continued clearing his Puzzle Hazard.

"Ugh... Why is mom so slow..." Ayumi, who has been in her room upstairs thought. She wears skimpily at home. In other words, she's wearing a tank top and shorts. She walks downstairs to check on her mother.

"Hmmmmmm! So full!" Kanade exclaimed. Surprised, Ayumi leapt back hiding behind the stairs.

"Why is she here... Keita?" Ayumi thought. She watches the both of them, hoping them to leave soon.

"Well, I need to wash my hands before we leave!" Kanade said as she walks to the washroom.

"A opportunity!" Ayumi thought.

"Futaba-kun, why are you here?" Ayumi called out to Keita. Keita stood up and walked to her.

"Judging by your appearance, this must be your place is it?" Keita asked.

"Huh?! Pervert!" Ayumi quickly covers herself.

"Kei-kun! Let's go home!" Kanade's voice echoed from the washroom.

"Well, I'll be leav... Huh?!" Keita is being dragged upstairs before he is able to finish his words.

"What are you doing?" Keita asked.

"Keep it down, she will hear you!" Ayumi said.

"She... You know her?" Keita asked.

"Uh no, listen, I'm just... I'm just embarrassed to be seen like this by strangers!" Ayumi said as she flusters.

"Being seen... It doesn't seem that way to me though." Keita pointed out.

"Mumumuuuuuu.... Get lost!" Ayumi shouted as she curled into a ball like a hedgehog.

"Alright, I'll leave." Keita stood up and walked away.

"Also, I'll forget what happened." Keita said as he walked downstairs. As he walked down to the dining area, Kanade is not there.

"Dine and dash huh... Guess I'll have to pay for her food then." Keita calls for bill.

"Oh, you're here, your girlfriend went out to look for you." The owner said.

"Oh, thanks for telling me. By the way, we are just neighbours." Keita said as he paid for the meal.

"Ah but I saw she's being so close to you, I thought the both of you are in that kind of relationship..." The owner said.

"She's like that." Keita said before he packs his stuff and preparing to leave. The door bell dings as the door is pushed open.

"I couldn't find him!" Kanade exclaimed.

"Oh, he's here you know?" The owner informs.

"Geez! Where did you went to?" Kanade asked grumpily.

"The washroom...?" Keita said.

"Well, I should pay up first..." Kanade opens her purse.

"Well, you're lucky, this gentleman here paid for your meal." The owner said.

"What? I ate... a lot..." Kanade said in an embarrassed tone.

"It's alright. Let's go home." Keita walked to the door. Kanade bowed to the owner before catching up with Keita.

"Ayumi, your lunch is ready by the way!" The owner shouts to her daughter upstairs.

"I wanna die..." Ayumi said, as she is almost dying from embarrassment.

Keita and Kanade are on their way home, and Kanade is as usual, busy typing on her phone, sending pictures taken in the cafe to her friends.

"Just now the owner was nice right?" Kanade said.

"Uh, yeah. She's quite nice." Keita replied.

"She mentioned she have a daughter around the same age too, called Ayumi Mikoto." Kanade said.

"Oh, yeah. She's my classmate, also the assistant class rep in my class." Keita responded.

"That name reminds me of Ayumi-chan..." Kanade said, with a sad tone.

"Did anything happen?" Keita, who noticed something wrong asked.

"I'm sure you didn't remember this person. Her name is Ayumi Fujiwara, a girl who we played together back then." Kanade explains. The atmosphere became gloom, contrary to how Kanade usually acts. This time, she is serious. Keita knows this, and decides to listen to her.

"The name does remind me of something, but I couldn't remember anything relevant." Keita explains the weird feeling as he heard the name Ayumi in the first day.

"She was unfortunate, remember the disease my parents once suffered from?" Kanade asked.

"The Kujou disease." Keita said.

"Correct. She mysteriously became sick, and the cause is still unknown up to now. Both my father and Mio's father couldn't treat her illness. They decided to send her overseas, as the equipment there were supposed to be better than the hospital they were in." Kanade said.

"So how is she doing now?" Keita asked."

"Her family moved overseas, they contact information were changed. In other words, we lost contact since then." Kanade lamented.
