Chapter 1 - Destination

Everyone is different. Some people have powers, others don't. That's life. However, those who have the ability to change things remain hidden, shunned by society.

On a midsummer's day, late into the afternoon, stood a boy in an abandoned valley – wishing, waiting. His figure was slender and small just like a kitten's, but he had an enormous power imprisoned inside of him. Wearing only a dark grey jumper and dark grey shorts he sighed – again – as he began to pack up his things to migrate to another place.

His shiny, brown hair fell upon his eyes, washed with fear and anxiety, as he placed his belongings in an opaque carrier bag.

By now it was already 5pm, early evening, and the boy was passing through the murmuring crowd, aware of his surroundings. These people could be anyone – a terrorist, a drug dealer, a murderer or a thief. Or maybe...they were ordinary people, living ordinary lives, doing what ordinary people do – killing ones like him.

"Ugh! Not again." One frustrated person shouted as the sky began to drop bullets of tears down on the half grey world. The young boy, of course, didn't care much for he had gotten used to the comforting wetness that the clouds delivered. Just as he had expected, the rain turned into ice – not soft ones but heavy, hard and large chunks that made the cars' hibernating horns blare into life.

As the boy's head had been lowered to the floor he gazed up to find he was at his destination. The Park. Specifically, the meadow that was held captive within. This was going to change his life: waking up in the morning and tidying up his stuff, hiding his belongings in a suitable place, looking for food to keep him full for the day then going on his 10 miles walk which would result in him returning in time before darkness fell onto the world.

His 10-mile walks always ended up with his tears welling up in his far away eyes, making them glisten ever so brightly at the ever-lasting moon. Meeting up at the same place he witnessed that one street, where he used to roam about hunting for loose change. This made his mind rummage for the memories that were connected to this place, his home.

"Mother! I found 10 Pearls!"

"Well done. Now be a good boy and add it to the 'Saving' jar, alright?"

"Yes mother."

The boy shrugged his miniscule head at the treasured thought. He can't stop now. Not that he's so close to the answer.

Pushing open the iron gates, he stepped inside and glanced around. The trees laughed at him with their blooming leaves, trying to dare him to venture on. All the flowers and plants tried to hide their nectar from the violent wasps and greedy bees by covering up their buds of fruitfulness with their fragile petals. However, the only thing that stood out was the heavenly meadow, welcoming him with its light and innocence, standing way over the depths of the park – wishing, waiting.

Trudging forward, the young male set on for his journey's end: the meadow. He knew that this was a dangerous park to be in after daylight hours, so he tried to speed up before...

Snap!

He looked beneath him and discovered nothing that could have made that nerve-wrecking sound.

Snap! Snap!

If he wasn't walking, then who else could be here at this hour? Who would want to go into a place like this? Don't they know that this park is...

Snap! Snap! Snap!

Footsteps. Coming from behind of him. Glancing around he found...wolves. There were 3 wolves or more. This was very normal at this part of the area since people have been disappearing, without a trace, for more than 100 years. Nevertheless, he had to run away from the nocturnal beasts or he'll disappear like the many intruders before him.

Without a warning, the wolves marched forward, ready to engulf their prey. With that the boy stumbled for the meadow, fastening the handles of the bag around his shoulders. Almost tripping over a tree stump, he ran on, his life on the death list.

As usual, the boy's stamina decreased making him slow down. For a quick second he peeked behind to the predators. To his surprise the animals were gone, out of his sight. Slowing down, his breath became ragged. He felt like he was going to faint. Running was a thing he had done a long time ago.

With his breath back to normal he decided to move on. He couldn't afford to waste time now that night was settling in. As the chase had led him to the edge of the Greenland, he sighed and walked on.

---------

"Mother. I'm scared."

"Don't worry. You'll be safe with me..."

"What if they try to-"

"NO! Don't you start thinking like that. They will not...You will not..."

"Mother!"

Another memory washed over the boy's mind. If this kept up he would not be able to go on any longer.

Half way. The tree at the end of the meadow was why he had sacrificed his life to get here. He was lucky enough to get through the park alive. That park is the death phantom's lair. Perished bodies are the phantom's favourite. Twisted faces of fear, lifeless eyes and ear-piercing screams would have echoed all round, causing people to dive into the safety of their homes. Thank goodness the wolves had went away or he'd be next.

He stopped. The tree was just metres away, waiting to welcome the familiar foreigner. Nothing could stop him for meeting his destiny. No one could object for him going a few steps to freedom and safety. Slowly and carefully, the anxious adolescence took his freedom with pride, letting his heart lead the way rather than his brain.

"I'm so proud of you."

"You are?"

"Of course. You've come a long way and became so strong and independent."

"I'm happy I found you."

"Me too...Noah."
