School days were over for now. Summer has came to visit. I went outside to see if the watery rose apple tree in the front yard was bearing flowers. What I saw was a classmate going down from his bike. He asked me to come over to his friend's beach house for a party. I simply denied and went back inside. Some time later, he came back. His bike covered with dirt, his hair messy. I offered him a drink, and cleaned his bike. He once again begged for me to come. I said, "Why do you insist me to come?".
"It's been a while, you know", he said back. "We are worried sick about you. You hardly come to school last year. Although you still passed, you never hang out with us since that time. Look, what I did was wrong. What we did was wrong. We shouldn't have left you alone in the beach. We were too drunk to think. We are truly sorry, I'm truly sorry. So please, come with us today." I replied, "It's my fault for being naive. I have forgiven all of you since then. I even offered you a drink and cleaned you bike, so you can think that I'm not holding a grudge against you. It's just that I'm not feeling so well today. Sorry, and also..."
He then left, disappointed, and silence returned once again. I went inside to sleep for the entire morning. I woke up at noon, felt cold, and rushed outside only to saw the flowers from the tree scattered around the front yard. I took the broom and cleaned up the mess, then took yet another nap under the tree. Night has fallen, and I woke up covered in flowers fallen from the tree. I murmured, "You sure made a lot, old fella.". I went back inside the house and heated some cup noodles. I turned on the television and called my brother to eat. As I changed the channel, I suddenly saw the news about drunk kids who died from a falling tree. I saw the familiar beach house, the bike, and the faces to those 3 kids, one who I saw recently.
I turned on my phone and saw lots of messages from group chats. I checked into one and saw lots of their chats about what happened. They suddenly switched from chat to video chat, and I quickly shut down the phone. John, my brother, asked me if I knew what happened, since he too saw the news in his phone. I simply shook my head and went up to throw my unfinished, cold noodles.
I went outside and laid down under the tree, watching the dark clouds in the night sky. I whispered to myself, "You knew the weather's bad, yet you still came. You can't be that fast to ride a bike for your hair to be that messy, so you knew it's too windy. Did you remember what I said that morning?"
("Sorry, and also, a mouse will never play when the cat's still here.")
"You did remember, didn't you, Summer?".
