Chapter 4 - Like Father, Like Siblings

Yes, it was still summer when that day happened. I woke up, did my daliy routine, and relaxed underneath the same old rose apple tree. I could feel the cool summer breeze just below the earth's surface. I kept watching still at a single rose apple at a time, waited for it to be ripe and fallen to the ground. The shade of the tree, the cool wind, and the soft grass made me feel like I'm in paradise. I felt so comfortable I lost myself in thought again. That time, I remembered what my aunt Lyn told me about my father when I first visited her in a faraway city two years ago.

"My, how fast you've grown. I hardly recognize you since you were just two when I last saw you in person. You've become more like your father now, in appearance only though. You have his face, his body, his beard, even his posture when your father was just around your age. Ah, I remembered when he used to sit like that, crossing his legs like a woman. I always laugh seeing it, and now that you here I can't stop remembering it. How was your father like when he was young? Well, he was handsome, smart, sociable, and hardworking. He was quite the womanizer, even old women liked him. And he got skills in almost everything, people thought he was too good to be human. Well, now he's old, but still hasn't lose his touch. Each of you may got one of his pointers. For you, I think you may have been smarter than your father already. Your brother John got your father's good looks. No wonder he's got girls flocking around him all the time. As for the two, we shall see them develop in the next few years. Was your father quite the loner type, eh? Well, he was a lone wolf. But he said this once to me, that the greatest wolf of the pack is sometimes the lone one. For you may never know what secrets it holds. Now then, why don't we play chess, eh?"

At that moment I heard a buzz. It was my phone's vibrations. I looked into it and saw a message from James. He was my youngest brother . He bugged me again for reminding me to attend a youth group activity, since he was one of those who conducted it. I denied him again, told him that it's his thing. Some time later, I got up and went inside. Before I entered the house, I noticed an unfamiliar pair of shoes. I rushed to see that the clock's big and small hands were pointed at twelve, and there was quite a bouffet at the dining table. I went to the kitchen only to see the only girl in our family. There, I met the youngest member, my stepsister Julianne, who wore an apron and carried some dishes. She made smiled happily, and spoke, in a sweet, angelic voice,

"It's been a while, my dear lone brother.".
