Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Suddenly a cacophony of sounds broke out behind them. Ming Yue and Yao Yao turned around and saw two merchants were fighting.

"I told you to move, this is my spot and has always been!" A middle-aged merchant shouted and kicked the other merchant's stall.

"What are you talking about? I have been at this same spot for over a week. I have never seen you before!" The other merchant shouted back.

"You dare to talk back to me? I think you're looking for a beating!" Then the middle-aged merchant threw a punch which caused the other merchant to fly away five meters before he tumbled along the ground and coughed out several mouthfuls of blood.

"A cultivator? And he dares to attack a mortal?" Yao Yao frowned.

"Papa!" A young boy no more than four or five ran around the stall. When the boy saw his beaten up father the blood boiled within him and he ran toward the middle-aged merchant and wanted to hit him.

"Even your son doesn't have common sense. Come over here, boy, and I'll teach you a lesson in your father's place!" The middle-aged merchant said as he beckoned the boy.

The middle-aged merchant was about to grab the boy when something black flashed through marketplace and with a loud bang smacked him right in the face. He stood there for a few seconds with a cast iron pan over his face before he fell backwards and with another loud bang landed flat on the ground.

Ming Yue was shocked as she pulled at Yao Yao's sleeve. "D-Did you kill him?" She knew that pan weighted a lot and if he were an ordinary mortal he'd definitely die from such a heavy impact to the head.

Yao Yao shrugged. "He'll probably survive."

"Probably?" A cold bead of sweat traveled along her cheek as she heard those words.

The young boy ran over to his father who was still lying unconscious on the ground. He kneeled beside him and tugged at his clothes as he cried. "Papa! Papa! Wake up!"

Ming Yue and Yao Yao ran over as a crowd started to form around the place.

"Is he okay?" Ming Yue asked as she saw Yao Yao kneel beside the man and took his pulse.

Yao Yao sighed. "He has severe internal hemorage and will require extensive care for several weeks." She then pulled out a pill from her spatial ring and put it in his mouth. "This will stop his internal bleeding, but he'll need the care of a professional to survive."

"Any doctors around?" A random person in the crowd called out.

A short girl, about Ming Yue's age, stood behind the crowd and stretched up an arm and stutterd, "I-I am!" However, nobody heard her because her voice was too weak.

"Shouldn't we take him to a doctor?" Ming Yue asked.

Yao Yao furrowed her brows. "I don't dare to move him as it might cause more damage to him. Stay here, I'll run to the third peak to get a doctor."

Yao Yao stood up and then squeezed herself through the crowd when she suddenly bumped into someone who cried out as she fell on her bottom. "Chen Mei?"

The small girl rubbed her aching bottom when she heard someone call her name and when she looked up and saw Yao Yao her face paled and her whole body started trembling.

"What are you doing blanking out here! Someone needs your help!" Yao Yao reached down and grabbed Chen Mei's arm and squeezed herself back through the crowd and then dumped her beside the merchant.

Chen Mei sat on the ground with her eyes closed and her whole body trembling like a dry leaf in autumn. She was normally a very shy and weak-hearted girl and in front of the walking catastrophe Yao Yao she was terrified and had basically shut off all her senses the moment she saw her.

Yao Yao frowned as she saw the useless girl being useless. She was about to kick her when she felt Ming Yue grab her sleeve. "Let me try." Ming Yue said.

Ming Yue kneeled beside the terrified girl and put a hand on her shoulder. "What's your name?" Ming Yue asked, trying to sound as soft and harmless as she could.

"Her name is Chen Mei!" Yao Yao spouted.

Ming Yue glared at Yao Yao. Couldn't she see that she was scaring her? "Chen Mei. That's a pretty name." Ming Yue said and began to rub her back. "I'm Ming Yue. You don't have to be afraid." She continued. Then she grabbed her hand and squeezed it a little.

"R-really?" Chen Mei asked, her voice so weak it was barely louder than a whisper.

"Really, really!" Ming Yue reassured her with a smile.

Chen Mei slowly and carefully opened her eyes and when she saw no danger in front of her she turned her head around. But Ming Yue suddenly grabbed her head and turned it back. "There's nothing interesting behind you. Look, there's a patient in front of you who needs your care."

Chen Mei finally noticed the unconscious merchant and quickly crawled over and took his pulse. She closed her eyes as she carefully felt his pulse. About a minute later she opened her eyes and immediately pulled out a few bottles of pills and a small bag that contained her acupuncture needles. She fed the merchant a few pills before she started inserting acupuncture needles all over his body. It all happened really quickly and once she was done she exhaled a deep breath of air and wiped her forehead from sweat. "W-we can m-move him now." She quietly said.

Ming Yue looked around for something that could be used as a stretcher when she saw that the roof of the merchant's stand was made of two poles and a fabric stretched between them. "Yao Yao, help me pick down the roof of that stall and we'll use it as a stretcher."

Yao Yao quickly helped Ming Yue dismantle the roof and then helped lift the merchant up and place him on it. Then they picked up the "stretcher" with Yao Yao carrying in the front and Ming Yue in the back. The three girls and the young boy hurriedly left the marketplace and headed toward the third peak.

As the crowd dispersed, a random person stopped and looked at the middle-aged merchant who was still lying on the ground and had a cast iron pan were his face should be. 'What about him?' He thought and scratched the top of his head.
