Chapter 6 - Arrow of Destiny?

Everyone else could not help but burst out laughing. Seriously? They were angry at this guy? He got even worse results than the worst of them. He could not even be compared to the scum scrapped off from the bottom of the barrel. He was simply rock bottom, the worst of the worst.

A sort of pity even appeared in their eyes. Even the worst reject in the reject group, a girl who got 2.4 potential, wanted to comfort Tang Peng. She tried to touch his hand out of pity, but he moved it away.

"What a loser. Can't even accept that he lost." The young miss snorted, treating Tang Peng with contempt after his rejection of her. She wanted to try and see if she could still get his connections with the immortals to get her in, but he was truly useless.

"Fine. Have it your way." The girl harrumphed at him before walking away. Tang Peng could not care less about what she thought. The only thing he could think of now was to beg a high level cultivator to help him. However, it was more likely they would just ignore him or just smite him on the spot.

"I'm so useless... I'm sorry, everyone." Tang Peng could only offer apologies in his heart to his family and friends. There was no way he could have the capability to help anyone. Maybe Peng Xiu could do it, but would he even care anymore?

Tang Peng's hopes in his heart had turned into despair. He just wanted to bring his parents back into the land of the living, and enjoy the sweet life he had before. Not to mention... Tang Mei did not deserve such a death. No one deserved such a horrific death.

Tang Peng sighed. The only thing he could do now was to return to his great grandfather's abode. "Could you take me back to where... Peng Xiu is living?" Tang Peng struggled to remember his name. He had only learned of his name from the short stories his parents had told him before the feast.

"Peng Xiu? You know him?" The examiner looked at the boy intently. Peng Xiu was in fact his senior, who had also quite a high potential. He was one of the most promising candidates to become an elder of the sect, as he was already at Rotating Core Level 9.

This boy must have came from a special background. Getting escorted by an elder and even knowing a prodigy of the sect, it was too bad for him that he held not even a drip of potential in him. Not even the Sect Leader could somehow get this guy in the sect.

He might as well still do the favour for the boy, since the examination was over, and Peng Xiu's cave was on his path back to his cave. Who knows, maybe Peng Xiu would reward him something nice in the future. He once again contacted another Rotating Core cultivator to bring to the trials, before simply grabbing Tang Peng and flying away.

Everyone started to clench their teeth again. They were supposed to be treated this way. They were supposed to be the legendary cultivators that transcended the heavens! How dare this good-for-nothing be carried away by powerful cultivators at his own whim? Unfair! Unfair!

They could at least understand Shen Ying. She was a person who's potential appeared once in a million years. However, that boy was just the most average looking person, not to mention how devoid his potential was. In their hearts, everyone carried a grudge.

As the examiner took Tang Peng into the skies, there was beautiful scenery to be found everywhere. There was a giant immortal beast being ridden on by a sect elder, which boasted a luxurious mane, along with rainbow trails left behind. The beauty was truly hypnotising.

However, Tang Peng has no feelings to appreciate anything in the sect. It was not like he was going to stay in it anyway. He was just going to stay here for a few more days and go back to the mundane world of being a peasant.

Since he had no potential of being a cultivator, according to the examiner, then there was no point wasting his time thinking about it.

He would go to a village and rake the fields, planting the seeds of wheat. Watering them everyday, he would wait for them to grow, before selling them for food. He would pay taxes to the empire the village resided in, while the empire would pay cultivators to protect them. The more Tang Peng thought about the matter, the more the frown on his face grew deeper.

As they continued to fly, Tang Peng could see the large numbers of caves excavated in a mountain. Inside these caves, there were numerous people giving off a slight aura. He could also see another mountain nearby, which hosted a more powerful presence to it.

"So, how do you know Peng Xiu? Also, what's your name?" The examiner tried to make some small talk with Tang Peng and figure out his identity.

"I'm his great-grandson. As for my name, I'm Tang Peng." Tang Peng told the examiner everything with a monotonous voice. It was not important information anyway.

"I heard about the incident from that old fogey Shi Xun. Sorry, kid. It must be terrible to get possessed by an old monster AND get your family killed in just a couple of days." The examiner tried to comfort Tang Peng with his words. He was not a heartless person who would not relate to such a tragic story.

"Please, do not mention about that again." Tang Peng coldly asked the examiner to do so. He did not want to dwell on the past and let himself be vulnerable to the emotions inside of him.

"Fine." The examiner decided not to talk to Tang Peng anymore, and instead focused on bringing him back to the cave. In a matter of minutes, Tang Peng was dropped off at Peng Xiu's cave. The examiner then went back to his cave to cultivate further.

Tang Peng sat on the stone floor. He was getting a bit thirsty and hungry. He had been kept alive by Peng Xiu through injection of Qi, which had sustained him. Now, however, he needed normal human food to eat.

However, Peng Xiu was not coming back anytime soon. All he could do essentially was to wait. Or he could explore the cave. He looked deeper into the cave. There was certainly more to it than just a place, since Peng Xiu was staying inside it.

His eyes brightened and his lamenting instantly stopped as his expression was replaced and shaped into greed. The blackened arrow on the ground that had been slowly moving towards Tang Peng suddenly increased its speed, as Tang Peng grew greedier.

"There must be a cultivation technique here to increase my power! Power!" Tang Peng's smile grew into a menacing grin. He was a commoner who had only recently learned that the immortals in legend could be him, and was overtaken by the desire for power that was seizing his rationality.

As he began to head further into the cave, the arrow flew up and pierced Tang Peng's heart. Tang Peng felt a large pain in his head, which slowly moved down into his heart. He was also experiencing immense pain in his heart too. He gripped his chest tightly.

"Ba-dum! Ba-dum!" His heart started to beat faster along with the growing pain. As the pain moving along his body went down into the chest area, the two pains merged together, to form a cold stream of energy throughout Tang Peng's body. The pain had abruptly stopped.

Tang Peng let go of his chest as his breathing returned to normal. The cold stream of energy and pain had disappeared. However, something had changed within him. There was some sort of strange attraction within him to a certain direction.

Just in case there were anymore abnormalities wrong with him, he quickly did a thorough checkup of his body. He noticed an arrow on his forearm. The arrow was pointing towards where he felt attracted towards.
