Chapter 10 - The Village of the Dead

Heng Tan zoomed off, with Tang Peng right behind him. The speed of the sword was inhumane, as Tang Peng's vision had suddenly blurred. He could only see and hear the air currents left behind by the sword as they shot out of the Nine Step Sect's territory.

"How did you make your sword move so fast?" Tang Peng could not believe his eyes. None of the flying swords from Shi Xun and the examiner were so fast. It was as if they were moving at the same speed as light!

"Trade secret. I thought you weren't going to involve yourself in the martial world anymore. Shoo, shoo." Heng Tan waved his hands to dismiss the matter.

Tang Peng got a bit angry. Was it that hard to just simply say no? He did not need to talk about the matter of him leaving the martial world. However, Heng Tan's eccentricity had indeed helped him a lot. Thinking about the legacy also calmed him down.

"What? This is insane!" While Heng Tan manoeuvred the sky, Tang Peng looked behind and was shocked to see that the Nine Step Sect's territory has turned into a bunch of mountains. It was surreal to see that the grand buildings had suddenly become barren land out of the sudden.

"Don't act dumb. You think our sect would have survived so long without concealment? The other sects would team up with the royal factions to take over the sect." Heng Tan scoffed at Tang Peng. This was something very obvious. Even an 8 year old kid would know of such common sense.

"Sure, just continue going." Tang Peng shook his head. This was going to be a long ride for him, with Heng Tan's disdainful attitude.

"What do you mean? We're already here." Heng Tan's sword had already started descending onto the ground. From the air, Tang Peng saw that everyone's bodies had already started to rot, along with the pool of blood that had mostly evaporated.

"It's time to toughen up, Tang Peng." Tang Peng's internally told himself. He could not cry and be scared of dead bodies forever if he wanted to grow stronger to save them from death.

Tang Peng took a deep breath, and then exhaled violently. This made him feel a bit better as he dropped off onto the ground while pinching his nose.

The stench of dead bodies was truly one of a kind. Even though he had already mentally tried to ignore it, it kept bothering him everywhere he went. The smell seemed to have merged with the village itself.

As he waded in the sea of corpses, he could tell the corpses through their clothing. The one wearing the red shirt was Tang Mei, even though her body had decomposed to an unrecognisable state.

"Help us..." "Why did you not help us?" "I want to be alive again..." "Kill the one who murdered us..." As Tang Peng began to recognise the corpses, there seemed to be the voices of the dead whispering into his ears.

These voices came from the dark soul he had, which was beginning to undergo yet another change. This time, instead of turning darker, a red shine started to emerge from it. The Yin energy contained in Tang Peng's soul started to rebel, which started to affect Tang Peng's mind.

"Hey kid, snap out of it!" Heng Tan, who was still levitating some meters off the ground, sent his scabbard to hit Tang Peng's head with the hilt.

The murderous aura retreated insanely upon meeting a higher force. A reddish shine was now obvious in Tang Peng's soul. However, only Astral Projection or higher realm cultivators could see the soul directly, so no one noticed anything abnormal again.

"Why did you release that murderous aura just now? It was the aura of someone who has killed at least 100 people." Heng Tan stared curiously at Tang Peng. First, he had zero potential, then he had a Devouring Body Type, now he had a murderous aura. This was getting more interesting.

Maybe he was a cultivator that had lost his memories and realm? Heng Tan shook his head. That was too unrealistic. It was a pity that Tang Peng was leaving the cultivation world. He wanted to see what he would become if such an abnormal person became a cultivator.

At this moment, Tang Peng was digging some holes in the land. He wanted to give a proper burial to them first, to let them rest in peace first before he came back. He then hoisted each individual corpse into their respective holes.

He then looked at two specific holes which was next to each other. He kneeled in front of the holes and let tears flow from his eyes.

"Mother... Father... I will be back!" Now that the matter burdening him was gone, he felt better instantly. At least they would not be exposed to the harsh elements while he was away.

He then looked at the arrow. His destination was located directly to the right. As we walked towards the right, he could feel a slightly stronger attraction. This was where his friends and family first fell.

"So you're done? Where do you want to head to next?" Heng Tan questioned Tang Peng.

"Finally, I can tell you my secret. The truth is, after the thing possessing my body died, I felt an abnormal sensation. It was as if I was destined to go somewhere." Tang Peng's turned around and immediately, all sorts of rubbish talk spewed from his mouth.

"So you've been hiding a secret all along? Interesting!" Heng Tan at first was shocked, but then he felt relieved. This explained everything to him. No wonder this kid was acting so abnormal.

It must be the modifications made by that Soul Robbery cultivator. Even he knew about this incident that had caused various people to lower their cultivation base.

Perhaps he could even find something good for himself. Heng Fan's eyes shone in delight and with greed at just the thought of it. Maybe it could even be an inheritance of the Soul Robbery cultivator. The possibilities were unlimited. If he really got something good, he would silence this dumb kid.

Why? If any prominent expert knew about this, they would chase after him and kill him. The punishment from the Nine Step Sect for revealing their secrets was like a small slap to the hand in comparison. They would only mute you for 100 years and take away three bags of spirit stones. At least he would still keep his life. To ensure his life, he could only kill him off.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier? You should have brought me to that place earlier." Heng Tan's greed started to be aroused. Normal cultivators would be tempted by such a prospect, not to mention him, who was stuck at the Rotating Core Level 5 bottleneck. Heng Tan also unintentionally released his killing intent to Tang Peng.

Tang Peng's soul could feel the murderous intent, as the thoughts that Heng Tan had was related to the Yin energy. Since Heng Tan was an experienced cultivator, he had done his fair share of killings. Tang Peng got a gut feeling that Heng Tan was dangerous, which made Tang Peng wary of him.

Indeed, when benefits emerged, even friends would turn foes in the cultivation world. Tang Peng decided that he would drop off at a place close to his destination, in order to not let Heng Tan directly discover his destination.
