"Erutruse, my love, there's much to discuss." I say with tenderness as I lightly kiss her knuckles.
"That man that our daughter has been around most her life, he's dangerous."
A look of confusion crossed her face. I'm sure he changed his form or how old he looked to keep suspicions away.
"Vampire to be exact. He ended my life when I found out who and what he was." She gasped and raised her hand to her mouth. She was about to speak but I raised my finger. She promptly shut her mouth.
"Only, he waited till I was away on a mission before sending me to the heavens. I found a letter under our doorstep that was withered and old; yet it was insightful and deadly news. Our daughter herself is in danger and one of the night creatures."
She furrowed her brows.
"I don't understand." She whispers out but instead of explaining I just continued.
"I hid the letter for many years but to my horror she found it one day and read it or what I assume she could understand. She has always been advanced for her age. I had come by to tell her it was some made up story only to discover that man talking to her. I was horrified to know that he was grooming her to love him. But she was always attached to him since he found her that day in the woods." I looked at my wife and saw her crying. She too has a horrifying look across her face.
"That man? You mean Romeo right? I always thought he was around her age but I never noticed he was older. Do you think he was cloaking his actual age then? He can do stuff like that right? I don't understand and this is so much to take in!" She said raising her voice in distress. I sighed and grabbed her hand and slowly started.
"That's not all; my family for generations has been affiliated with the night creatures. You see; it all happened that unfaithful night when my great great great great grandmother helped a man and fell victim to his powers to which she beared a child half human half vampire. My love; I never wanted to hide anything from you, I was ashamed of who and what my family had become." I watched my wife look on in horror as she snatched her hand away and back up slowly.
"Are you- so you're a vampire too?" She whispered out trembling.
"I'm more human than the rest of my family. It was the most dominant in my blood but I do have 25 percent vampirism in me. That night we were given our daughter; I heard wings and footsteps. I saw the note fly away and land under the doorstep to which I retrieved later. I had to do what I could to protect her. But I failed. Her memories were constantly being wiped by that man so it made protecting her a bit easier." I paused cause of the news I dropped on her. She started to uncontrollably sob and instead of running away she barreled into my arms and hugged me.
"I don't care! You're my husband and I waited for you my whole life. We both did our best and now we have each other again." She said kissing me all over my face.
"I love you Erutruse. Thank you so much for trying to understand all this.
"I have no choice. We're both dead right?" She says looking at me through tearful eyes.
"I'm afraid so. But we have eternity now with each other." I say kissing her forehead with tenderness.
"So what do we do now?" She asks taking my hand.
"Well she is currently between worlds. She's in an enchanted death right now so if you want we can go see her?" I suggest. Her eyes light up at the mention of seeing our daughter and she eagerly nods. I chuckle and willed us both to where she is.
When we showed up we saw a young lady with long black hair and fair white skin with her back to us just sitting on a grassy landscape.
"Where's our daughter?" She asks looking around. I pointed at the girl sitting down and her jaw dropped.
"Are you sure that's her?" She says uncertain.
I nodded my head.
"Yea. That's how she truly looks. It shocked me as well but she's still our Lillian underneath."
Tears sprung forth and she tried running to our daughter but I stopped her as I saw a beautiful deity sitting with her that I could only assume was Mother Selene.
"We have to wait. Sit with me love." She bit her lip and hesitantly nodded as she crouched down and sat.
I looked at my wife and the longer she sat here with me the younger she started looking.
She was middle aged when she passed and now she looks like a younger version. A part of me is sad because all her unfinished business is almost up. As soon as she gives our daughter a hug and knows she's safe she'll most likely cross over the river of forgetfulness to the next destination.
I smile and hope when that moment happens I can cross with her.
"I love you so much Erutruse. No matter what happens; don't forget about me." I say taking her hand and rub circles around her thumb. She smiles at me with love and happiness and i lean in and kiss her tenderly.
"I love you too Augustine. With all my heart." The first time she said my name in so long and im sure if I was alive I'd feel the flutter in my stomach. Regardless I still felt something and kissed her again. I missed her so much. Watching her struggle and overcome everything on her own wasn't easy but I'm so proud of her and the woman she has become. Hopefully with guidance; our Lillian will become stronger and flourish like the young lady we were raising her to be.
