Chereads / The Midnight Flower Series: Midnight Moonlight / Chapter 13 - I named her Angel

Chapter 13 - I named her Angel

The lady guided me down a couple hallways and almost instantly, I forgot how I got here and why I had the hospital gown on, as if my mind became clouded. The more I tried to remember, the more muggy my mind got.

I started to look around and try to figure out where I'm at.

The walls are birchwood coffee brown as well as the floor and ceiling. There are pictures hanging on the walls and some furniture that holds random statue heads on top.

I looked at the artwork as I passed by and noticed that each picture has an angel with black wings and dark brown hair. The artwork is all hauntingly beautiful and dark.

There was one painting that had caught my eye: the dark angel jumping out the window with a light angel hand in hand as if they were lovers.

"....Don't worry Ms. Moonlight, master Ari will take great care of you."

I kept staring at the painting and the events rushed back to me and I got pissed off for the fact that everyone is erasing my memories or trying to suppress them.

I looked at my surroundings and saw  myself in a mirror wearing a white hospital gown. I looked at my stomach and noticed it to be flat.

My child...i already had her...

I think to myself in disbelief and anger.

I catch up to the lady who was guiding me to get a new set of clothes with a stoney face.

"Excuse me?" I say tapping the woman's shoulder.

She turned around with a smile the moment my fist collided with her nose causing a shriek to echo the empty hallway. She stumbled and fell down and before she could say anything, I yanked her up by the hair causing another shriek followed by a whimper and as calmly as possible; I said: "Now, where the fuck is my child?"

She trembled in fear and pointed to the room across from where we were standing and I let her hair go and walked away leaving her on the ground crying.

I opened the door to see Ari and I was about to charge in at him when I heard him cooing softly. I decided to walk a bit closer so I could see why he was talking like that when I saw him changing my daughters diaper. I decided to just monitor him and my daughter and watched as he dressed her in a soft pastel blue dress.

He's such a jackass but he's so gentle with her.

I think to myself.

I don't know how I feel about it.

"You look just like your mother when she was a baby. Same beautiful hair but you have yellow eyes. Shame you haven't a name yet little angel." He cooed to her as she smiled and kicked her chubby legs.

"Well, if you want to get technical; he was shocked when you was able to change your eye color. He thought for a moment you belonged to him."

"No, you don't belong to me either." He said with a small laugh.

I kept looking at him interacting with my daughter and found he was reading her mind and talking back to her.

"Your mommy is quite a beautiful creature..." He says gently.

"...No, she's just resting right now. She'll be here any moment little angel."

At that moment she started to cackle and whine while her little hands curled into fists and her face turned red.

"No no! Don't cry little angel. Your mommy hasn't forgot you. She won't let you starve silly." He said with a chuckle; picking her up and bouncing her while shushing her.

He kept bouncing her as she wailed and cried and eventually he turned his body and noticed me standing near the doorway.

Where his gaze was warm and friendly; the moment he saw me, it went cold and unapproachable before he walked over and carefully placed her in my arms.

"Your little angel is hungry." He said surprisingly gentle before walking away.

After feeding my daughter and laying her down for a nap, I decided to just call her Angel since she reacts to it.

At first, I didn't understand why Ari kept calling her little angel till I noticed the slits in the back of her dress and a few little fuzzy feathers.

I feel like such a terrible mother because while I was having my memory taken temporarily, my baby decided to grace Ari with wings. It doesn't really surprise me since I have them as well.

I walked out of the room and went to find Ari.

He was in a study room sitting at a desk looking intensely as some paperwork.

I rapped my knuckles softly on the wooden door and his head shot up.

"May I help you princess?" He says coldly.

"I'm tired of my memories being stolen and I'm tired of feeling helpless. I want to be able to protect myself and my daughter." I say straightforwardly.

"Shouldn't "Fangie" be teaching you this stuff? Considering you died last time I tried to teach you?" He says in the same cold tone.

"Gee! Why didn't I just think of that?! Maybe I'll just find my way back to the hospital you kidnapped me from!" I say my voice thick with sarcasm.

He inhales deeply and rolls his eyes before adjusting his leather black jacket; ignoring me.

"Why'd you kidnap me Ari?" I question softly.

"So Fang can find you and get pissed off with me even more." He says looking back at the paperwork in dismissal.

I huff in annoyance and run my hand down my face.

"Clearly we've gotten off to a bad start." I state the obvious.

"Is that so?" He says sarcastically not looking up.

"Look; can't we just start over? Introduce ourselves and go from there?" I say with slight hope and annoyance.

"Why? So you can rip my heart out of my ass again?" He asks dryly.

I sign heavily and shake my head.

"Nevermind." I say in defeat walking away.

Before I can leave the room, the door slams shut.

"It'll just take a few moments for you to put a shield around your mind. Take a seat and I'll help you."

Fangs POV

I got the results for the DNA test back and was slightly disappointed and relieved that she wasn't mine.

But now I have another question: why was her eyes fire orange?

I went to Shadow and finally asked him the question that's been on my mind for so long.

"I tried to take the DNA of the guy from her body and prevent the pregnancy. I know it sounds crazy but it didn't really work. On top of that I tried to erase the memory since she healed her entire body from her assault; again didn't work. Her mind resisted everything and her body rejected my magic."

I couldn't believe it! All this time I thought she forgot everything but she's burdened by everything.

She's so confused but hasn't questioned anything.

"So what now?" I ask Shadow

He groans and rolls his eyes.

"Tell her what she needs to know! Stop thinking she can understand what the hell is going on. She's lived as a human for so long her mind is a prison to her now. She can't tell the difference between all that's being bombarded on her!  She had her life here in the underworld as a twenty year old but given the reality she was only two in human years. She's so bombarded by these memories she can't handle it. It's too much for her in the span it was given to her. Face it bro. You fucked her mind up at fifteen and she's almost seventeen now on top of that with a child on her hip who's also a fucking royal!" He yells out the obvious.

"You need to fix this shit before it's too late." He adds.

I only nod and walk away thinking about it.

I make my way back to the hospital to see Midnight but before I get too far I see a bunch of nurses going frantic around her room.

"What's going on?!" I ask with authority.

One of the nurses looks at me and tells me that Midnight left her room with the baby and hasn't come back.

I go pale with the news.

She... left...?

"Get me the security footage now!" I say to them as they scurry away.

Thirty minutes later I see on the footage how she was actually following me and listening to what I was saying before stopping the nurse I was talking to to interrogate her.

She walked away when she realized she was getting no where with the nurse. Soon after the nurse followed but was abruptly dragged into a different room and Ari walked out with a syringe in his hand.

He pricked her and she started going limp before I heard what he said:

"You're supposed to be dead Luna."

Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!

He found her!!!

I think as I start to run in the only direction I can think that he'd take her. This happened a good while ago and she could be in trouble. Why'd I leave her like I did?
