"Of all the things you just read about, you want to know more about the Collage?" He asks me with slight amusement in his eyes. "Don't you want to know more about the battles and wars that happened back then, or how strong Skrym was? You know, the cool stuff?"
I look at him like he is a fool, but I'll explain. "Well, I do want to know those things, sure. But I don't even know if I'll get to step out of this office, what would knowing about those things help me for now? And even though knowing about a collage might not be useful either. But if I do get to leave on my own, it might be a good idea to find a place where I can learn more. In that way I also get to know all the cool stuff right?"
He gives me a sad look. "I'm impressed with how strong you stay under the pressure kid, I've seen many grown man just sitting there crying their eyes out due to the doom of death hanging over them. But here you are thinking about your future! I'll tell you what I asked for you." By now there's a smile on his face and he's standing right next to me with his big hand on my shoulder. "Actually, Aranes collage has a special program. Once every four years they have a class for kids that are like you, promising, but unlucky enough to come in a situation like... you were in. The collage will educate you and bring you into contact with other kids your age, big families, teachers, so you can reintegrate. It's a great opportunity!"
He pulls me to my feet and he kneels down on one knee, bringing his face on the same level as mine. "I'm not really supposed to tell you all this, as it's not yet final, and things could still change. But I promise that I'll make it happen. And something else I'm not really supposed to say, the collage asked me to become a teacher, and I accepted. So we'll start together! Now the both of us won't start there while knowing nobody."
All of this baffles my mind, even though there's a real smile on my face that I can't suppress, I can't think of why he'd go through so much trouble for me? In my entire life only Goba did so before, and even he had other reasons for doing so. Maybe I'm too trusting, but I'm really looking forward to it. I'll just deal with his secondary reasons when they pop up, the situation with Goba ended well too! "Great, Victor, when are we going!?"
Victor has an even greater smile on his face now, smiling at me as he stands back up and walks back to his chair. "Well, assuming that everything goes smoothly, you'll start school in about two months, and I have to be there a month before that, so you'll travel with me, leaving in two weeks. You're lucky that your program starts so soon, it only starts once every four years after all. You'll start in the fall semester, but there's still three weeks before classes really start after the semester starts. Those three weeks are used for both written and practical tests, depending on your results you'll get customary and recommended classes, but they'll explain that there. I didn't go to the collage before, so I'm not too familiar with it all, just from what I've read."
I smile at his explanation, there's something I need to tell him. "Victor, I think you explain too much." he looks at me in horror, as if I just told him a horrible thing! I quickly explain. "It's not really bad so far, but I ask about one thing, and you tell me that, but then you keep on building on that. Goba wasn't like that, he always told me just enough, but I don't mind your way either. So maybe you need to compromise?"
Victor pouts at me, that makes me chuckle, a big man like him pouting like a girl that didn't get what she wants! "I'm just excited okay, I can't help it. If you talk like that you won't make friends at school! You need to say those things more nicely!" This makes me chuckle even more, he really sounds like a little girl now. But maybe he's right, it won't hurt to sound a little more nice right? To show a little more sun.
So I smile at him when I stop chuckling. "Okay Victor, I'll be nicer. I really appreciate what you're doing for.." I stop as I sensed something, a energy ripple through the air going towards Victor, or more precisely his desk.
"You sensed that?" Victor asks after he noticed me looking at his desk after stopping mid sentence.
"Yeah, like a ripple going through the room condensing onto your desk." I try my best explaining what I felt, but feeling energy is still something strange to me.
He raises his brow at me. "I'm impressed, I never expected you to sense that. They always try to hide messages as much as possible. But I do wonder, did your world make you more sensitive, or did you unlock your upper dantian?"
"I honestly don't want to talk about that." I can't help but frown at him. He's nice and all, but I won't tell him about what I can do.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked, I just get very curious when I notice things like that." He says that, but there's something weird in his eyes. It might be nothing though. "Anyways, it was a response, it came quicker than expected. And it says my proposal got accepted! You're going to school!"
He's way too excited, but it makes me smile, he's a nice man.
