Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

Irvene's point of view

Two days had passed before we began to go back to the hidden rooms that we previously intruded. I made my way towards the south part of the school together with Vaughn, Sid and Meryll.

"Wait," I murmured. We stopped and hid when I noticed someone's footsteps. A man wearing a crimson mask on his upper face walked through the unnoticed hallway. He chanted some spell that made him enter that room. Afterwards, he went out swiftly, but something caught my attention.

An unconscious female student is floating in a bubble-like figure at his back. My hands formed into a fist.

What did they do to her?

"He's carrying a student. What should we do?" I asked.

Vaughn looked at me. "We'll follow him," he said.

When the man walked through the left corner of the hallway, we followed silently and remained at a long distance. The four of us continued to follow him, until he was able to exit the school from it's high walls. He's not an ordinary man based on his astounding skills.

And we could also do that.

"We'll jump out after five minutes," Vaughn commanded.

Afterwards, we didn't waste our time and started to jump through the high stoned walls with sharp-edged steels above it. The walls have several defences that would prevent a student from escaping to school, especially cutting classes. On the other hand, that defences failed to prevent us, because our abilities surpassed that of a student-level abilities. Meryll led us the way and we ran through the woods, until she stopped after a minute.

"What's wrong?" Vaughn asked.

Meryll turned her head to us. "He stopped," she said.

We were facing each other when he appeared in front of us.

"Stay away, don't follow me," he said. A long sword materialized on his left hand and swayed it in front of us. A slash of wind came across to us because of his weapon.

Sid quickly counter attacked with a bigger slash using his silver sword that glows with a red and golden light. Their attacks slowly vanished in mid air.

"Take back that student at the school," Sid said. He pointed his sword towards him.

The masked man didn't continue to attack because we simply outnumbered him. "I didn't expect that someone will be able to follow me here," he said.

"Give us the student!" Meryll said. She raised her right hand that holds a small gun.

"Relax!" he shouted. The masked man let out a sigh.

"This student is my friend and you misunderstood my actions. I'm not a fiend. I saved her from those evil persons," the masked man said.

"If you're her friend then why do you need to take her out of the school?" I asked.

"I'll catch everyone's attention especially those persons who is a part of that organization if they saw me carrying a student who has been abducted by them just recently," he said.

That caught my unwavering attention. He knew about the darkest secrets of Soul'e Magic High.

"If you aren't an accomplice of them, then you'll tell us who they are," Vaughn said. He looked at the masked man with utter seriousness on his face.

"The only thing I can say is that a certain student lured her in their hidden room and I managed to save her before their leader would take an eye on this woman. I also knew that the leader holds a high position on the school although not the highest ones." the masked man explained.

"If you knew about them then why do you only save one person?" I said.

I felt that he looked at me as if I said some unbelievable words. "Look at the situation, I'm only alone while they have a bunch of accomplices. Do you think I would be able to save them all at once? I think all of you have a superb abilities even if you're alone that you forgot everyone's not like you," he said.

Ah..that strucked me really hard. Okay, I understand now. He wasn't lying.

"We're just asking you if you're saying the truth. Who knows you're inventing a non-existing story to successfully escape from us?" I said.

"I'm not," he said.

"We couldn't simply believe your words. If you are telling the truth, then give us the student. We'll take her far away from the school and continue to live her life. She could come back to school when it is already safe," Vaughn said.

"I couldn't entrust my friend to you so easily and I don't even know if you do not harbor any ill intention!" he said.

"Don't mistake us like those purely evil persons!" Meryll shouted.

Vaughn took a step forward. "Okay, we'll let him go," he said. We looked at Vaughn with furrowed eyebrows.

He's walking towards the school. The masked man disappeared into thin air quickly. "Why did you let him go?" I said.

Vaughn stopped walking and turned his body in front of us. "We'll let him go but someone should secretly follow him. That way, we'll know where he would go," he explained.

"Then that's my work," Meryll said. She changed into her outfit that she always wanted to wear, her black fitted clothes with a long coat over it.

"I'll be going now before I lose track of him," Meryll said.

We nodded at her. She disappeared while we came back to school. The classes was already finished before we went to the forest, but we still left the school on it's 'proper' exit. The three of us came back on the castle.

We are welcomed warmly by sister Adelaine in front of the castle. Her long scarlet dress reached the green grass.

"Where is Meryll? It's unusual of the four of you to go back home incomplete," Sister Adelaine said.

"Some important work," Vaughn answered.

"Hmm.. ok. Let's get inside, there's some important things that we need to talk," she said.

We followed her inside the castle until we stopped at a huge door that would lead to the ruler's throne. It really is an important one that we needed to discuss it with Brother Mavien, the current ruler.
