Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Irvene's point of view

We hurriedly ran towards Meryll. Sid took her arm up to his neck and helped her walk inside the castle. I could see her blood that continuously flowed down through her body and it's vivid, even though she wore black clothes.

"I-I'm fine, I can walk on my own," Meryll said.

"Stop being so stubborn, you are certainly not okay," Sid uttered.

Afterwards, we finally brought Meryll to her own room after their endless fighting. A doctor who lives at this castle is currently curing her injuries.

Thankfully, Doctor Lazine is a high skilled healer and was able to cure her injuries in a short time.

"Miss Dellmira needs enough rest to completely recover. I left the medicine that she needs to take and don't forget about it. This medicine will remove her deep wounds overnight, but she's only allowed to drink it after recovering some strength which is possible by tomorrow so please keep that in mind," Doctor Lazine said.

He left after that, and we turned back our attention towards Meryll. She's lying on the bed and some parts of her body are wrapped around in bandages.

"Meryll, where did you get that injuries?" Vaughn asked her while she turned her head, opposite to our direction.

"A group of warriors appeared out of nowhere when I went near the Spirit forest," Meryll said. Meryll's voice are weak, and she suddenly went silent until I can see her tears that are about to fall from her deep blue eyes. Her actions today are unusual for a strong-willed woman she's always been.

"And then? Continue Meryll, I knew you have something else to say," I said. I looked at Meryll with worried face. She hesitated to say something towards the four of us.

"Don't worry about anything. You can say what is bothering inside you and don't let it burden yourself," Vaughn uttered.

"Meryll, we are all your genuine friends. We wanted to know what's the real reason behind this sudden incident," Sid said.

Meryll sighed deeply and combed her hair towards her back through her fingers. "I saw b-brother and, he's one of them and I didn't expect to see him today." Her voice stuttered as she spoke.

"You have a brother?" Sid and I both asked in unison. Meryll didn't like to tell us about her family even once since we met.

Meryll nodded her head as an answer. "I supposed they are from Estrama's workers and that m-my brother works for them," she said. Her hands quickly formed into a fist.

"You went to the Spirit forest by yourself, don't you know how many are those hidden men lurking around that area?" Vaughn asked while his fingers were placed between his forehead.

"It will be the last time that it would happen and I won't come back there again. I'm sorry for my impulsive actions," Meryll said.

There's something wrong. She still didn't tell us the whole story.

"Wait, you said that you met your brother at the forest, then what did happen between the two of you?" Sid asked the questions that have been bugging my mind this entire time.

"We had a fight and I didn't have a choice. I might be dead if I don't defend myself from his attacks. His attitude towards me aren't good ever since we separated for many years," Meryll exclaimed.

That made my mind furious. Even though they didn't have a good relationship to each other, he shouldn't hurt his own sister like that.

"That's being cruel! I admit that I'm not in good terms towards Salford family, but I won't carelessly attack a family member," Sid uttered.

"Okay, that's enough. We'll leave your room so you can rest now. Get well soon, Meryll," I said.

It's not the right time to ask Meryll about her painful past. She needed to recover quickly and being stressed is the least we wanted for her to happen. Maybe she would open up to us sooner.

I entered my room after I went outside to Meryll's room and sat on my bed. There's still another problem that I need to solve. This silver ring always reminds me about the limits of my powers.

I opened my hands and felt the magic running through my veins. Only half of my magic is restricted yet it could bring many problems when I'm chanting a spell. The flow of magic to my veins became slower than when I have my whole magic.

I would be able to avoid that problem if I made smaller attacks and with swift and precise movements. My opponents wouldn't have the chance to stay away if I strike like that.

"I'll try it first," I uttered.

My hands started to glow. The small and sharp-edged ice spike started to form in midair.

"No, I need thinner ice spikes."

I focused and manipulated my magic and it transformed into blades.

"Ice blades!" Ice element users are rare and it's hard to control so there's only a few kinds of its attacks including ice spikes which is the strongest and hardest to use. Ice element's weakness is that ice are easy to break and it made ice element users to minimize their training practice to ice element and focus on their other elements. Also, ice element only appears in two element users.

People are rarely born with element powers and among those rare persons, only a few have two elements within their bodies. It's said that only one among 500 persons are born with element powers and most of them become mages.

It's uses vary depends on the training they had undergone and the amount of magic powers within one's body. If someone is born gifted with two elements, and has enough amount of magic powers in his body, he would become a powerful magic-user if he's trained well.

This breakthrough would make ice element users to be well-known in the field of magic.

There's only one more problem. The ice blades might break in midair, because it would need to travel at a very fast speed, but it would become unavoidable.

"I need to surpass its weakness and strengthen it. Right! It's strengthen magic."

"Ice blade, strengthening magic forge into one!" I chanted and the ice spikes glowed. An indication that it worked.

I'll throw this.

"Release," I said.

The ice blades released at the same time and broke the things at my room.

Wait.

My room! It suddenly turned out into a mess. I forgot that I'm inside my room until I heard loud knocks from my door.

"Irvene, what happened!" Vaughn and Sid are outside my room.

I ran hurriedly to open my door, got outside and closed it immediately.

"A-ah, don't worry, something just happened when I'm practicing some spells, haha." I said and laughed awkwardly.

They sighed in relief. "Just go to your own rooms. Don't worry about me." I said and lightly pushed them away from my room until they walked away, shaking off their heads.
