Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

"What..." We all looked at a massacre, Nails stared at the mass flesh pile of goblins and orcs my slave stared at the burnt, crisp of destruction that laid in front of her like a pie on a window, but for me...

It's was an opportunity for me to increase the strength of my [Soul taker] skill! But if my ability can be used by my familiars, which would imply my slave, what she might see me doing could lead to lose her belief in me, but...

I opened my left palm, but this time it felt a little different. My body couldn't handle the normal constraints of magic, and even more, now that my [Soul taker] ability description didn't say whether or not my body hurts like God was giving me divine judgment. So my body hurts like hell when I took in the large, crimson fog-cloud of souls that my hand took in. Nothing like a good breakfast other than about 50-lbs. worth of Souls equivalent to the weight of Methane.

My slave eyed me with suspicion, after sucking in all of those goblin souls and I pulled my hand back like a whip flaying my palm open. Nails, however, was left disheartened at the sight of his fallen comrades and friends. I saw something amidst the center of the piles of bodies, It is the flag of Holy church of the West...

"NOOOOO!" He screamed as he held the hands of one of his fallen comrades, he then proceeds to hug his fallen comrade tightly. He began crying softly as Me and my slave observed the attacked village. In a world where danger seemingly lurks around every inch and meter of the corners, power seems like the only option to truly survive in this horrid world. Much like the strange ability I own, I wonder if my classmates had specialized powers of their own. But now wasn't that kind of time to think about unreliable, and stupid classmates. Because I could just from the high-temperature from the bonfires, and the fresh iron-like smell from the pools of blood, Church or not, whatever murdered these goblins didn't get far after killing them. "We should depart, I don't think whatever killed your friends couldn't have gotten far..." I said, my slave then patted the poor goblin's shoulder and said: "I still do not trust you, Nails, but Master is right, the longer we stay the more likely we'll get killed..." Nails then sniffed his nose and stood up, He walked towards a large burning pile of debris, which I could assume could be the main tent of his tribal village. He dug through the searing pain of the flames, and probably his emotions as well.

He dug and dug and dug as if he was ensuring that something he held important was still there, I understood the pain he is probably going through right now. The pain of loss of family, friends and even loved ones. I didn't even care if my [Soul taker] had the ability for me to read into someone's emotions, but I don't want to be like the people who stood by the sides, no, I didn't want to be like those monsters who walked away and laughed at my misfortune, and his own. So I opened up the mystical bag of holding that I kept on me this entire trip, and dug around.

He started crying intensely, his hands looked like microwaved chicken feet. And yes, I know what microwaved chicken feet look like. I took out a few things, most of which are Arthur's creations. An enchanted shovel with the runes: [Lightweight] and [Demolition] on them, a small bottle of Arthur's Fire resistance potion, obviously he does works quickly because of the level of heat he constantly works with, but to medium level flames such as this, It grants total immunity.

I tossed over to my slave a shovel, and motioned towards her to go near Nails and rubbed the Fire resistance over him. Of course, I didn't toss the potion to her, I handed it over to Her like a working human being, a Fire resistance potion of this level is basically priceless in any market. Legal or not. I tapped the goblin on the shoulder and said: "Move aside..." I said as I tried to shove the shovel into the debris...

And just like the pillars of smoke, the atmosphere suddenly became heavier...

My [Soul taker] skill then activates, As a few, extremely high-pressured souls entered my detection range. And what's worse, there was only one race that was weak enough for my detector to go off...

"Aww man! Are you sure we've got to make another demon check?" A loud, and obnoxious voice spoke, and I could already tell just from memory alone who it belonged to...

"Don't be lazy Shiro. We must be absolutely sure that there are no survivors otherwise they'd warn the demon lord about our sabotage!" A feminine voice punished Shiro's, and I could tell as well that this is Stella's. And their voices only drew closer, my slave also recognized their voices as well, because apparently my memories are like the magical equivalent of an audio book to her...

There was nothing around us that could possibly mask us, nothing but piles of dead bodies and, wait- "Guys, I've got a plan..." I picked up a handful of blood on the ground, my slave could already pick up the idea before Nails did, in which he dived into the blood itself, to make it seem like He's bled to death. While me and my slave couldn't find any other option, She began chanting some weird language, right before we something strange happened to my body as it started to fade into a translucent tone. While my slave had her hands on Her sword's hilt.

What I saw my classmates wearing made me almost laugh...

Shiro wore the same thing he wore I thought he shouldn't be able to wear. He wore a red tracksuit that he wore on important school sport events, and he'd bring home the trophy every time, except last year when Micah invited me to see one of his events, and that's a story for another time though...

We began seeing other people as well, other significant figures such as the class president Midori, the twins Angeline and Angela, and our classroom trademark, Yuuki, who looked like he could be very well the Hero of legend that was represented in many of the modern mangas and light novels I've read. And several other people coming from behind them, I assumed from their equipment alone that they could be the knights that serve the unit that's probably being lead by them...

As much as I wanted to make my escape, I couldn't leave Nails behind. Even though he is just a stranger I've just met, I get this feeling that we're probably the only people that have actively supported him to assist in his troubling time, I mean, I've been there before as well...

And right now, we might as well try and-

"There!" one of them called out, and It was Angela, She pointed her finger towards our direction. Stella then unsheathes a long, iron sword from behind her back, and then charged in front of us! But, we were hidden very well! at least, until Angeline ratted us out. In which I realized our translucency disappeared.

My slave then unsheathed her blade and then dashed towards Stella, surprisingly she held her own against Stella, and blocked one of her attacks right before she pushed her away, Stella then slashed against my slave's blade, in an attempt to either disarm her, or knock her prone. Which neither happened...

Then out of nowhere, a bolt of flaming energy hits my chest. The searing pain reminded me immediately that this was a battle, and I couldn't risk being the one who is unarmed. As Shiro looked in my direction and then said: "Oh look! We do get to kill demons after all-" He paused as the smoke cleared and saw a clear view of my face, he then groaned. "Hey guys look it's the loser!"

And just as he said so, Stella and my slave stopped clashing and then looked towards my direction. As I recalled what Darius said: "Please, I can't bear to see any of you die the same way...", I just stood there blankly as everyone else has their eyes on me.

'Ah fuck...'
