I came from a very intriguing, very mysterious family. It was said that our family were the human descendants of a great dragon who lost his heart to one of our ancestors. That great dragon loved her so that he gave up his life as a mighty dragon to live with her as a human. But men and dragons alike disdained their union and strove to destroy them/ since the great dragon no longer had his mighty wings and breath of fire he could do no more than delay the inevitable.
Men and the dragons had their way. They killed our ancestor and their children, in front of the great dragon, before they turned on him too. With his dying breath, the once great dragon gave up the last of his magic by making sure our family was protected and that the line wound not end with him and his wife. So great was his love for his wife that he bestowed this last magic, this last gift, to all the women born of her and her descendants. In that moment their youngest daughter, who by some miracle was not discovered by their enemies, was found be a traveler who took refuge in the very cave they had hidden from the men and the dragons who sought to destroy their lineage.
The soft cries of an innocent babe alerted this traveler. He found her nestled on some moss still covered in blood. Before his very eyes, her black silken hair turned silver white as tis babe's father gave his last breath to protect her.
That was the story that was passed from generation to generation of our family because that babe bore children of her own and because the head of that traveler's house who took her in as his own child, being wifeless and childless himself. She became the most powerful mistress ion their land. Some generations later the people rebelled and now here i am the only living descendant of our family... A traveler once more. I, too, had the silver hair of my mother and her mother before her and so on, for all female offspring in our family inherited the great dragon's final blessing.
