Chapter 2 - History Club

Isamu walked to the staff room at lunch to find Mr. Daichi. When Isamu walked in, Mr. Daichi was sitting at his desk shuffling through some papers.

"Mr. Daichi?" Isamu asked, just as she rounded the corner of his desk.

"What do you need Kaneko?" He answered while turning his head toward her.

Isamu was a little embarrassed to ask at first but she built up the courage. "I was wondering if you know of any clubs that have to do with, um..." Isamu looked away but looked back again just as fast, "History?" She looked back down at her uniform and started playing with the end of her shirt uniform, waiting for Mr. Daichi to respond to her question.

After about a minute of waiting, Isamu looked up. Mr. Daichi just starred at her with an expression of shock plastered on his face.

He quickly shook off the expression and smiled at her.

"I think I have just the club you're looking for." He began writing on a torn off piece of his notebook and handed it to her.

Isamu finished up her classes with a few murmurs and stares. Apparently, one of her classmates from history had told a bunch of other students that they had heard Isamu singing. Most of the students do not believe what the others were saying.

She glanced at one group that she was approaching.

"Kaneko is good at everything but I've never heard him sing before." One of the girls whispered to the rest of the small group that huddled around her.

She noticed that one of the boys was one of the many that were listening to her.

"I know it seems impossible that he would ever sing, but he did. It was kind of.." He looked around, scanning for unwanted listeners. "Girl like." He finished in a whisper.

A few of the girls gasped and covered their mouths.

Isamu didn't really care about what others had to say about her. She just continued to head towards the classroom number that was written in the piece of notebook paper.

The room number was 175 which meant that it was on the second floor. She rounded the corner and tugged up the stairs. She continued until room number 175 was right in front of her.

She looked at the sign the hung poorly on the door.

"Classroom 175. History Club Room." Isamu's words barely came out as a whisper. She reached out to open the door when it burst open. She didn't know if she knew who the boy was because his back was to her. She was about to ask him if she was in the right place when another boy started yelling.

"It'll only be for a day or two come on!" The boy inside the club room complained.

Isamu was about to say something again when the boy in front of her turned around in a blur. Isamu wasn't sure when happened next, but she remembered hitting the ground.

When she opened her eyes Kazuki was on top of her.

"Oh my god!" Isamu heard someone that sounded like a girl yell.

"Kazuki get off him!" The same girl screeched.

Kazuki instead just stared at her, a large grin spreading across his face. Isamu could hear footsteps getting closer to where Kazuki and she lay.

"Why do you not listen to me!" The girl bellowed at Kazuki while pushing him off of Isamu.

She extended her hand, a sorry expression plastered all over her face. Isamu accepted her gesture and the girl helped her up. She then helped Isamu dust off her uniform.

Once Isamu was dust free, the girl spoke again.

"My name is Masashi Michi." She smiled, she seemed like she was trying too hard. "I'm the president of the History Club." She bent her head, almost hanging it in shame. "I'm sorry about Kazuki." Masashi stayed bent over like she was scared to raise her head.

Isamu tapped Masashi's shoulder, letting her know it was ok the raise her head. Isamu then shook her head in disagreement.

"No was my fault." Isamu looked over at Kazuki who was now standing upright. "I should've moved out of the way when I had a chance." Isamu then bowed her head.

She then heard a burst of laughter. Isamu's head snapped up in alarm. Masashi and the other boy were laughing. Isamu was shocked and didn't know what to say.

"I'm sorry!" Masashi gasped in between laughs. "It's just." She seemed like she was about to pee at this point. "I never thought that Kaneko Isamu, the guy that's good at everything, would be saying sorry!" Masashi had just recovered from laughing only to start again.

Isamu waited in the doorway until the laughing died down.

"So what can the History Club do for you, Kaneko?" Isamu looked up, the boy that was yelling earlier was standing in front of Isamu. She got a good look at him now and started from his shoes to his hair.

"You're Kaede Junichi right?" Isamu asked after inspecting him. She glanced up and saw that Kaede looked a bit shocked like he was expecting her to not know him. Kaede's face soon transformed into a heartwarming smile.

"That is me." Kaede chuckled. "Now what can the History club do for you?" He asked, repeating his question.

Isamu stood a little taller and straightened her uniform.

"I would like to join your club." She answered his question, poker face activate.

Kazuki choked on his water upon hearing her words. Masashi rushed over to help him cough all the water up.

"Why would you like to join such a small club like ours?" Kazuki asked once he'd recovered.

"Because I would like to learn more about history." Isamu looked back at Kaede showing no hint of emotion. Well, at least she thought. Isamu might've let a little bit of anger slip because her eyes looked like they had been set on fire. The depth looked like nothingness but the anger added some flare. Kazuki, Masashi, and Kaede backed away from where Isamu stood.

"Well, it'd be great to have another club member," Masashi said slowly, scared she might anger Isamu more if she said it any faster.

Kaede walked over to a cupboard and took out a slip of paper. He then walked over to a table, moving his hand in a way that let Isamu know she was to sit down. She dug into her bag for a second before whipping out a pencil. She stiffly walked over to the table and filled out the information slip in seconds.
