"Ha Eun!" he said happily.
"Mr. Oh" Ha Eun answered "What are you doing here?"
"I followed you of course" he said it as if that wasn't creepy at all "Are you really getting married to your secretary?" the Chairman asked Ha Eun. For some reason Chang Wook felt insulted. What was so wrong about someone marrying their secretary?
"Yes, its true" she said.
"Then why…why didn't you tell me? I know what you said at the board meeting but, is that all there is to it?" The Chairman asked. At that moment Chang Wook got an idea. An extremely crazy yet wonderful idea.
"It was my decision not to tell anyone" Chang Wook said. The Chairman looked at him surprised. Ha Eun on the other hand wondered what he was planning.
"I thought it would be inappropriate and worried about what people might think of us, especially of Ha Eun, after they found out about my big promotion" Chang Wook look directly at Ha Eun.
She squinted her eyes and repeated "Promotion"
"To Editor in Chief" Chang Wook added "In the Publishing Department"
"Editor in Chief" she repeated, nodding at him.
The Chairman understood where he was coming from and was grateful that he worried about his Ha Eun's reputation. Even though Chang Wook isn't from an influential family. The Chairman thought that as long as his Ha Eun was happy, so was he.
Before the Chairman left, he signed one of the documents for them, just like the lawyer wanted and he went on his way.
"Let's talk more later Mr. Kim. I want to get to know the man my Ha Eun is in love with" the chairman looked so happy it almost made Ha Eun feel bad, but it was an almost. She took out her phone and was on her way back to the car when she noticed Chang Wook wasn't next to her.
She turned around and walked back towards him. He was glaring at her which she found quite adorable.
"That whole promotion to Editor in Chief thing was incredible. He ate all of that up. I almost fell for it too" she said "Now come on. We still have a lot of work to do" she turned back around but Chang Wook called out her name.
"Ha Eun" he yelled. She turned around surprised. Did he not know who he was talking to?
"I was serious" he said. She looked at him and smiled.
"No. I don't think so" she chuckled.
"Then deal's off and you won't have a job. I won't say it was a pleasure working with you" Chang Wook turned to walk in the other direction but stopped when he heard what she yelled.
"Fine!" Ha Eun hated this. After everyone knowing she was going to marry him and telling the Chairman; she couldn't suddenly find someone else to fill in his shoes. Chang Wook turned back around "If you do the whole Jeju thing, get your parents to sign the documents and marry me. I'll…I'll make you Editor"
"And not in a few years, right away" Chang Wook added. He was really enjoying having the upper hand with her.
"Fine" she said. Ha Eun didn't like how he was putting conditions into their deal. He was getting too cocky "Anything else?" she asked with a hint of sarcasm. Chang Wook noticed it but continued.
"I'll tell my family of our engagement when I want and how I want and if you do anything that I find remotely out of line around my family, our deal is off"
Ha Eun was getting ticked off at how bossy and confident he had suddenly become. Did he forget who he was talking to right now?
"Now ask me nicely" Chang Wook said. Ha Eun didn't understand what he meant. This time it was Chang Wook's turn to wonder if Ha Eun was stupid "Ask me nicely to marry you, honey" Ha Eun widened her eyes.
"On your knees, come on princess" Chang Wook said and even whistled as if he was ordering a dog.
"I could fire you" Ha Eun said.
"But you won't" he said. Ha Eun looked away, he was right. She needs him and the deal is off if she fires him. She looked around and saw all the people walking along the street. He wanted her to embarrass herself, she knew it and it was true. He was embarrassed when she called him out in the board meeting and he was embarrassed when he had to deal with all his coworkers stares, laughing at him and judging him. This isn't much of an embarrassing act but it's a start.
Ha Eun reached out her hand and Chang Wook took it, a way of steadying herself as she got down on the ground. Her skirt was long and a bit tight which didn't help with the whole getting down on one knee. Ha Eun could see from the side of her eye how some people stopped to stare.
It took all of her energy to keep her pride.
"Chang Wook. Will you pretty please marry me with a cherry on top" Ha Eun said looking up at him.
"Didn't appreciate the very obvious sarcasm but I'll do it" he said. Ha Eun reached her hand out for his so he could help her up but, he didn't take it, he just walked away.
"Chang Wook. Chang Wook!" she called out to him, but he didn't turn around. She thought it was because he didn't want a ride back home but in reality, he knew very well that once she got up he'd never hear the end of it so he decided to take a taxi back home. But Chang Wook glanced back to see Ha Eun struggling to get to her feet. That skirt was not made for someone to get on their knees. He laughed.
"That's one point for me" he whispered to himself.
"I'll get back at him" Ha Eun whispered to herself.
