Finn watched Angel pace around the field with wonder, ever since she had returned from the town, he had felt something was off. She looked stressed and confused, part of Finn wished he knew what was bothering her so he could help. But he knew she wouldn't tell him if he asked, and it was best to wait for her to tell him out of desperation.
He stared at her once more, smiling as he noticed the shimmer in her hair, although it was dark that night, the moon was still out, it seemed to make her hair glow, but Finn knew it must be a trick of the moonlight.
'𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭, 𝘪𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘩𝘦?' He frowned "he?" Finn whispered to himself, where was this voice in his mind coming from? He wondered, he sighed and picked at the field grass near him. It was a mystery.
Finn strode towards Angel, he couldn't wait any longer, she had been pacing for a long time now and he was determined to find out what was wrong.
"Angel?" he muttered. Angel looked up at him, and to his surprise, he watched as tears dripped down her face and onto the grass below. He stepped closer and grabbed her arms, forcing her to focus on him.
"Angel, please tell me what's wrong, I'm worried," Finn said.
Angel took a shaky breath and tried to dry some of the tears on her face, a sob was caught in her burning throat, but she forced it down. She looked Finn in the eyes and saw the sincerity in them, the worry and the confusion. '𝘛𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘪𝘮', the voice in her head was persistent. She felt compelled to listen, maybe she could trust him, after all, she wasn't dead yet.
"I'm terrified Finn, terrified of what's going to happen to us, terrified of what is out there, terrified of what YOU are!" Angel pushed him away, she didn't know why, but suddenly she felt mad.
"I was living a perfectly good life, then you just showed up, and now everything is ruined, my parents must be wondering where the hell I am, what about school?! We've just flown away and left everything, my whole life is back there, Finn." The volume of her voice went up as she spoke, to the point she was almost shouting, now she was gasping for breath.
Finn looked down, sorrow in his expression, then he hurriedly stepped towards her again.
"Don't you think I know that?" he said shakily. "Don't you think I'm scared too? I don't know where to go or what to do either. But Angel," he grabbed her hands, desperation ringing clear in his voice. "We can't go back, that much I do know."
They both stared at each other, then without a single word, they moved their heads closer. Angel gazed at Finn's lips with fascination. Wondering how soft they would be, then she looked into his eyes, they were ruby red, almost like blood. She snapped out of it and moved away.
Angel couldn't look at him. She was worried about what she might see if she did, instead, she looked up at the sky.
"What are you?" She hadn't said it loudly, but the words seemed like a shout in the almost silent night.
Finn didn't answer her, she didn't look over as she heard the flap of wings, she thought it was best that she give him space.
Little did she know, someone else watched her. With a smile and a chuckle, clawed hands took a photo of her, and without a sound, disappeared into the night.
