Chapter 4 - A surprisingly comfy home

The old smith was unfazed by the extra weight of a well-fed ten-point buck on his back. His strength of body was indeed very great if he could so easily lift the buck with one hand and cleanly pick up his walking stick which he had dropped, all without disturbing the silent infant cradled in his arm. After a five mile hike they arrived at thier cabin compound, as compound is most fitting with 4 major structures. One being the butcher's shack/kitchen the other being an armory/forge. The last two were different the first had two parts one was more defensible with a top that had an overlook where one could mount a defense by bow and arrow. The other was more for storage except that there were three beds and much more furniture therefor it was perfect for the mother and the two children. The old man sat down by the well in the middle of the compound and started to work on building a double cradle. After shutting the 12 foot high gate and checking the full perimeter of the wall. To call it Fort wouldn't be incorrect it was ordered by a square and could've been held by 5 archers one from the top of the smith's house and the other four in the four corners. The walls were made of logs and were crenelated so as to make hiding room if hiding on the wall. Easily defensible and strong making this home the most secure location in the region as the local lord only had a manor the walls more for decoration then for defensive positions. Samantha found that the sheets were made of animal skins drawn tight and were surprisingly soft, the pillows were down feathers inside of a besverskin bag. A giant bear skin pelt was laid over the beds as a comforter to stay warm making it easily the most comfy and safe location in the feifdom.
