"So it's happening again?"
Nona sighed as she sat in the small cafe, her long time friend sitting across from her.
"I don't understand. Why can't things just be normal?"
"Oh? And what is normal?"
Nona paused for a second. What was normal? Let's say that she didn't have this curse what would she have done? Would she really have told him to stay away? Probably not she was a genuinely kind person and doing such a thing didn't suit her.
"I just want the right to be able to do what i want without having to choose between two options."
"Did you know that multiple choice don't help you learn?"
Nona cocked her head in confusion,
"Frederick J. Kelly (1880-1959) was proclaimed the father of multiple choice. He was the one who came up with the system and was considered the founder of standardized test. He created the method as a way to objectify answers as teachers could include bias opinions in test and answers. With this method it standardized the test and made education more automated."
"Oooookaayy?"
Nona was still trying to understand.
"So this guy created fair test and we test to show how much we learned right?"
Her friend smiled,
"During world war one they used multiple choice to gauge the intelligence of the soldiers"
"Like an IQ test"
"And the results? Failure. There was no way to gauge the intelligence based off multiple choice questions."
Nona's eyes widened,
"In fact all they truly found out was that rather than the test teaching and reinforcing knowledge like they thought it would.. It only made them better test takers."
Nona looked down the tea bag in her cup of now cold tea floating.
"They learned to play the game."
