Payments were made and the documents were given to me. My joy could only be imagined. Within minutes, I have been elevated from borrowing my parents' car to a car owner. And mind you, not just any car; a range Rover sports. I was thrilled. I couldn't contain my excitement so I jumped till I panted. I stood at different angles, admired my car and smiled. I was just so happy. I couldn't even come up with anything coherent to thank my parents.
" Daddy thank you, may God continue to bless you and keep you for me." I hugged him and ran to hold my mum, I was teary eyed. I knelt before her holding her hands. I was tongue tied and she understood. She pulled me up and kissed my forehead.
Since I was a kid we had always shared a special relationship where words were not needed. She gave me my keys. I rushed to ignite the car. it wasn't a dream. The car was mine. My siblings( Keis and Lema) were happier. They kept shouting freedom as they got into my car, we happily sped home with our parents behind us. Just as my siblings said, it was indeed time for freedom. Our own freedom.
Thoughts of how much freedom we would enjoy, how much oppression we would dole out played in my head. My friends ( Sinto, Tansho and Orobo) no longer belonged to my class. I would make sure I showed them where to stand whenever we were together henceforth.
Taking the last bend, I would stopped to appreciate the gigantic jaw dropping mansion that was home but today was different. I just didn't see the building. I was too happy. I carelessly honked at the gate. I was so irritated when the gate wasn't immediately opened.
I shouted at the guard who doubles as a gate keeper but all he said was
"sorry, small madam"
"stop sorrying me, I will have to tell Daddy to change you. you are so lazy, get out." I shouted . Just then, my mum came out of the house and waved at me.
"Mummy what are you doing here?" I screamed trying to control myself. She smiled.
"buuuuuu....t you were behind us." I stammered.
"Yes, we got home ten minutes before you." answered my dad.
"We took a shortcut that in your excitement you missed." mum supplied.
"Anyway let's go in, enough talking for now." Daddy said. With that we walked towards the door, dad, my siblings and mum before me.
I walked in to meet total darkness which was strange. Even with the staggering electricity in the country, my home was always different. There were two stand by generators to automatically light the estate as soon as general power was interrupted.
what's going on? I turned to question my parents.
"Mum ! Dad ! Lema ! Keis ! I panicked. In an instant, the worst danced freely in my mind. I ran outside to call the guard. He was nowhere to be found. I ran back inside.
inside the lights were on but no one was around. I was going crazy. I held my head, closed my eyes and screamed. Suddenly, there was music.
