Chapter 6 - I'M NOT YOUR FRIEND

I was visibly tired by the time we landed in Seychelles. The eight hours journey wasn't as smooth, even with flying the business class. It was a small plane. Dad had asked I used his private jet but for some unknown reasons, my friend had insisted we flew a public aircraft. I also wanted to witness the many stories I had previously heard about flying in crowded airplanes. Going through the drilling airport check in exercise was strange and stressful. My parents' wealth gave us immunity to these troubles. Seeing my misery, Tansho laughed.

"It's not funny." I growled.

"Yes it is. You look like you are being led to the slaughter." She laughed again. Outside the airport, we easily found our guide, a very happy and lovely man. He introduced us to all that was necessary as he drove us to the hotel.

After helping us to our suites, he left us to rest while he prepared for the days ahead. I filled the tub and settled in to revive my tired body. I must have slept off because it was the incessant knocks on my door that reminded me I was still in the tub. I quickly climbed out, grabbed a towel and rushed to open the door. Tansho and a hotel staff was there.

"What happened?" I asked seeing the worried frown on their faces.

"I have been trying to reach you, called you severally. What were you doing?" Tansho answered. I relaxed and strolled back inside with both of them at my heel.

"I was in the bathroom." I said carelessly.

" Bathroom! For how long? I have been standing here for more than an hour."

"An hour?" I looked up at the clock on the wall above the door and before I could say anything else she continued.

"Yes, your parents are worried. They have been trying to get in touch since we arrived three hours ago."

"I'm sorry. I must have slept off in the tub. I was very tired." I apologized.

She waved her hand and dismissed the hotel staff. she walked to the window, pinned the curtains and sat down to watch the sunset on the beach. I opened my box and chose a delicate hand made cream blouse to go with a black jeans my Mum recently got me from one of her trips. I walked to the phone and called home.

"Have you eaten?" I asked and made to drop the receiver.

"Do you think I will wait for you?" She turned to face me glaring as she did. I ignored her look and question.

"I will order some food, what will you like? I held up the receiver to call the kitchen.

"I sincerely hope we get what we came for?" I didn't understand what she was saying. Her first question was more like her but this, coupled with the look made me feel a vibration in my spine. I didn't know what to say in reply, so, I asked what she came for since I thought we were there to relax.

" The world doesn't revolve around you rich kid. Be calm. When the time is right, you will get what's coming to you." she smiled.

I dropped the receiver. "Girlfriend, I don't understand all you have been saying, what's going on?" I went to where she sat and placed my hand on her shoulder. She simply shrugged it off and stood up. She wasn't as tall but, what she lacked in height she excessively had in weight.

"Everyone will definitely get what we truly deserve somehow, or what do you think?" She asked with a smirk.

I knew something was wrong and I tried hard to pin it but it kept eluding me so I sighed and said "Very true." I looked away from her and went to sit where she had stood up. I looked at the beautiful scenery below us trying to figure out my friend.

"Wine will be fine." She interrupted my thoughts.

"Ah! I have almost forgotten my hunger. Please, girlfriend, place the order, you are closer to the phone." I begged.

"As usual, I will serve you. Hence, don't call me your girlfriend. We are not that close. I am not your friend. You have never needed anyone. You are rich even If you decides to be lazy. I hate you." She said softly. I was surprised and confused. I didn't know what to do or say. I wanted to know what she had in mind, I wanted to ask who she was to me and why she agreed to come with me when she hated me that much but I couldn't find the strength to bear what I believed would come next so I cleverly left the topic. She must have thought I didn't hear all she said because her mood immediately liven up. We talked about other things and our plans for the holidays.

Our food arrived, we ate, played Scrabbles well into the night before she left for her apartment. I had wanted us to be together but she had made it clear she wanted to stay separate. I tried to marry recent happenings and her earlier outburst. I convinced myself something must have unsettled her. "She must be angry at something, she can't wish evil on anyone." I dismissed my fear and welcomed sleep.
