Logan, much too focused on the System's task, failed to notice an old portly man standing in the door frame. With a loud "BANG!" the old man closed the door, startling Logan so much that he had fallen out of bed. Logan shrieked, an unmanly sight, and knocked his head against the floor. As he was down there he noticed that the wood used to make the shack seemed to be different from the wood he was familiar with. It was more of a coffee brown colour but peppered with red grains, almost as if blood had been sprayed across the floor.
Dealing with his new and abrupt headache, he shifted his body and turned to the man. As he was doing so, he heard <
"Warning! Host has committed an unChad-like action! Another occurrence of this will result in punishment, which is determined from the action and your current cultivation level."
After receiving that message, Logan felt something change in his vision. When he looked back at the old man, he saw two words next to him, his cultivation level perhaps?
The old man, seemingly more relaxed than before, stared at Logan before opening his mouth. "Are ye alright there lad? We found ye in a field a couple miles outback, had a fiery fever did you. What be yer name, and wot were ye doing in our fields?"
Logan was shocked, what was this language? It wasn't close to anything that came from Earth. The weirdest part was.. how did he understand him? He felt like he was both fluent in speaking and writing with this foreign language.
Looking back to the man, he finally managed to make out the words floating around him, [Unknown Level, Unknown Stage]. "System, what is this?" He didn't hear the familiar ding, the sign of the System responding to his question. After a few seconds, information about cultivation levels flooded his mind. Shocked, Logan gasped aloud, startling himself and the old man who stood in front of him. Gazing into the man's seemingly deep and profound eyes, Logan finally managed out a few sentences.
"Sir? Excuse me but where am I?" He had previously looked around the room for a window, to maybe get a scope of the surrounding climate and landscape, but he hadn't seen one. "M-my name is Logan, kind sir. May you be so kind as to reveal to me your name as well?"
He seemed startled, the old man, almost as if he weren't used to such courtesy. "Ah-hem, Logan is it? That'll be a new name around 'ere. The names Bojack, Bojack Black. This here be the Ingwald City, part of the Godmaer Kingdom. What be you doing around these parts?"
"Uh-h, nothing sir! Just was wondering about for a bit when I fell and hit my head. Thanks for taking me in though, Bojack. I appreciate it." Logan replied with haste, trying to put together a believable story; if this really was a new world, would they take kindly to an outsider? "Is there anything I can do to repay you sir?"
Bojack was ecstatic! He was getting some free labor now; being a Tanner was a demanding job after all! "Of course Logan, don't just stand there! Put yourself together and get yer arse out here. Today you'll be learning how to tan a hide. Get some muscle on that scrawny body of yours."
Slightly groggy, Logan tried to stand up, using the creaky bed to hold him up. After four unsuccessful attempts, he finally managed to stand, the scratchy hide blanket falling from his body, revealing his tall and lanky figure. With a mop of messy red hair and brown eyes to boot, Logan was downright ugly.
Walking a few steps forward, Logan was reminded of his headache after he nearly tripped over his own feet and hit his head yet again on a nearby shelf. He was shorter than on Earth, he was about five foot six, but now looked to be around five foot four.
Finally managing to walk to the door, Logan tried to pull it open, wanting to go outside and join Bojack. He was confused when the door refused to budge, he pulls with all his strength and yet it wouldn't move. Exhausted, Logan leaned on the door, thinking that maybe Bojack accidentally locked him in there. As he started to lean against the door, it gave away and opened up, dumbing Logan's dumbfounded body onto the cold gravel ground. Just as Logan was about to shriek, he remembered the System's warning and managed to stop himself from letting out yet another girlish scream.
"Haha! You alright there Logan? Didn't think that even the door would beat you down. Harhar, anyways while you're here I'm going to show you how to tan leather, now watch carefully boy. After you get the skin off of yer animal, you're gonna want to put it up on a rack just like this one. You're going to need a good 'n' sharp knife, a dagger will do as well. For one and one night you are going to scrape the leather, getting all of the hair and flesh off of it. Afterwards you should rub it down nice 'n' good with some salt. I personally like to use the salt my momma made herself."
Logan was paying close attention, afraid to miss anything. After a while, he became absorbed in the process, filtering out much of the excess noise. Being too focused and in his head, he failed to notice a large black shadow pounce onto him!
"Ahh! Who is it? Why am I always falling?!" Logan was starting to think that he became a klutz after seemingly being reborn into a new world. He kept falling down and getting knocked over, this was something he didn't want to continue doing.
"SIT DRAGUTIN SIT! My boy, Logan! I am sorry, she's just excited to see you! You know how dogs can be yeah? She's a beast she is, part wolf. I was gonna bring you to her later but it looks like she wanted to meet ya first haha."
"Beep! System has been monitoring the host and has noticed a breach in Chadness. Proceeding with punishment now.."
"Now wait wait just a moment System! It was a giant dog that jumped on me! What was I supposed to do?" Logan wanted to cry, first a giant dog beast jumped on him and then the System was going to punish him. "Being a [Plebian Level, No Stage], the punishment has been decided, [Task updated: Talk to three girls and leave good impressions of yourself, have sex with one of the three. Difficulty: Low.
