Chapter 13 - Spiritual Suppression

"You alone are enough…?" Rachel repeated Kyle's words, as if doubting what she just heard.

"That's right! All I have to do is to chase them away and we are done, right?" Kyle made sure to confirm the terms of the deal.

"Are you kidding?"

Rachel knew very well that at this stage, it would take more than just a few words to convince the other magi into another round of collaborative defence, thus she very much wanted to believe in Kyle's words.

But it was simply impossible!

Even Anthony Pierce himself was pushed back despite the support of the other magi, so how was it possible for Kyle to do it all alone?

Ignoring her doubtful gaze, Kyle turned back to face the Blast Griffins that were rampantly firing at the ship.

At that moment, Rachel suddenly felt a surreal feeling subtly spreading out from Kyle.

Kyle was not emanating any domineering aura like how Anthony Pierce did upon his arrival, but this feeling was much more mysterious, as if he was a bottomless abyss that simply could not be seen through.

All Rachel could see was that Kyle's eyes closed for a moment before they suddenly shot open!

And at that very instance, the FADAI riders completely lost control over their griffins!

Loud screeches immediately filled the air as the numerous Blast Griffins screamed and started flying around erratically.

Then as if it was planned beforehand, the griffins simultaneously turned around and sprinted off with rapid flaps of their wings. The look in their eyes revealed nothing but fear, as if they were fleeing from the very avatar of death!

"Stay!" the leader of the FADAI riders commanded in anger as he tried to compose his mount, but it was to no avail.

No matter what he tried, the beast paid no heed whatsoever to his instructions.

Similar sights were occurring all over as the riders tried to regain control over their mounts. But even their leader was unable to do so, much less them!

They could only watch on helplessly as the distance between them and the Oasis Seeker rapidly increased, heralding the premature end of their operation.

At this point, the leader of the riders was contemplating over whether he should give an order to abandon their mounts so that they could finish off the job, but he eventually gave up on that idea.

He was unable to determine exactly what happened to their mounts. But without the griffins, it was impossible for his men to defeat the Defence Team of the Oasis Seeker.

It was a pity how close they had come, if they were just given a little more time, the ship would have fallen without a doubt!

But there was no helping it.

Nobody is able to predict with certainty what would happen out in the field, and accidents happen from time to time.

Now that things had progressed to this stage, he would not choose to blindly sacrifice his men for an outcome that was no longer possible to achieve.

Today, he had failed.

But as long as they kept their lives, he was certain that there would always be another opportunity for them to redeem themselves in the future!

On the other hand, the passengers on the deck stared in disbelief as the FADAI riders suddenly just turned and fled.

Disbelief, and relief at the same time.

What just happened?

Just moments ago, they had all accepted the fact that the Oasis Seeker was about to meet its end. Yet not even a minute had passed and the coast was suddenly all clear.

If not for the fact that they could still see the silhouettes of the riders flying off in the distance, they would have thought that it was nothing but a bad dream!

"Move the ship!" Anthony Pierce was the first to react, shouting out to the ship's administrators to get going.

What a joke!

Who knew what the FADAI riders were thinking to suddenly turn and leave?

But staying here motionlessly was definitely a bad idea. For all they knew, the FADAI riders might be returning shortly to finish off what they started!

The ship's administrators were no idiots either, and were merely taking a little longer to process the abrupt change in situation. Hearing the reminder from Anthony Pierce, they hurriedly urged on the Silver-Winged Herculean Bears, and left the current airspace at top speed!

"See? I told you I was enough." Kyle simply turned around and walked away nonchalantly. "We are quits now!"

"Eh? W-Wait, where are you going?" Rachel instinctively hurried after him, her mind still a little dazed from what she had just seen.

"I'm going back to my room! Or are you intending to use your gratitude as an excuse to follow me back to my room?" Kyle gave a shocked face as if he was unable to believe Rachel's boldness.

"I'm not!" Rachel snapped back immediately, her face flushing in anger.

"Then see you around!" Kyle gave a wave of his hand without looking back as he turned to head back into the ship.

Rachel was once again left staring at his back as Kyle left, but this time she was feeling much stronger emotions within.

With a single move, this strange man had instantly resolved the desperate situation that was beyond the means of everyone else, even when they were all working together.

Yet what left Rachel lamenting the most was that even with a front row seat, she still had no idea what Kyle just did!

Was it an illusion spell?

But she had never seen someone who was able to cast such a large scale illusion with the blink of an eye!

Come to think about it, she could vaguely recall having read about something similar in the past…

Beasts were generally much more developed than humans in terms of their spiritual sensitivity. This was because they had nothing but their own instincts to rely on while surviving in the wild.

Thus when they were faced with a powerful adversary, most beasts would be willing to submit to the stronger party's demands as long as the other party would not directly harm them. And this willingness to submit would only grow proportionately stronger along with the difference in power, up to a point where if an overwhelmingly powerful adversary wished for their death, they would be helpless to resist!

This was the concept of Spiritual Suppression!

In fact, this concept also applied when it came to humans, though to a much lesser effect.

If he was relying on this concept, then what happened just now would have made more sense!

But in order to accomplish such a thing, how powerful must Kyle be to have forced back the numerous griffins all at once?

Just imagining it gave her goose bumps.

To think that she thought Kyle might have been able to match Anthony Pierce in terms of magic, it seemed that she had completely underestimated him!

Should her conjecture be right, then Kyle was definitely a level above Anthony Pierce!

If she were to succeed in hiring such a powerful mage, then no one would be able to look down on the Pierce Third Branch Family any longer!
