"Enjoy the night? That's all you are always thinking about!" the lady immediately snapped back at the man. "This place better be good enough, or we are going elsewhere after this!"
But despite her tone, the two were obviously still on good terms, as could be seen by the man's arm wrapping intimately around the lady's waist.
"Okay, okay! Just take your time and look around first. You never know, there might be a gem in this place!" the man's tone was gentle as he coaxed the lady.
Jill hurried over to attend to the couple while Rachel whispered to Kyle, "These two are Paul Pickwatt and Lynnette Holde. They are the son and future daughter-in-law of the wealthy Pearson Pickwatt, Head of the Pickwatt Corporation. They are also famous for loving to flaunt their wealth, or in other words, they are spendthrifts."
Kyle simply nodded in response.
No matter in which society, rich people had always been welcomed by store owners, and Pierce Enchants (III) was no exception to that rule.
Jill followed the couple around the store, diligently introducing every item as they walked by, hoping that something would catch their eye. She was originally quite a hard worker, but now Jill was working even more enthusiastically, conscious of the fact that the young mistress was watching her!
After all, hers was a job that was much easier than those in the residence, and it was coveted by the other servants. If she were to perform badly, the young mistress might just decide to switch in someone else for the role!
Even Jack did not dare to slouch as he stood behind the counter, ready to handle any inquiries that were to come his way.
But despite Jill's efforts, the frown on Lynnette Holde' only grew deeper as time passed. After a few minutes, Lynnette Holde finally reached her limit.
"That's enough," Lynnette Holde held her hand out in front of Jill's face to cut her off. "Is there even anything good in this place? All I see are things worth a measly few dozen silvers coins! I am looking for a short sword, not a butcher knife!"
Items were divided into 4 main ranks – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
While she was not expecting to see any Platinum ranked item in the shop, how could they not even have a single Lower Gold Ranked item?
What a waste of her time!
Jill smiled wryly and took a step back so that Lynnette's open palm would no longer be completely blocking her sight, "Please hold on a moment while I do a quick check of our inventory."
"Hurry!" Lynnette Holde snapped impatiently.
The young girl could only quickly return to the counter, stealing a nervous glance at the young mistress on the way. After checking with Jack, she hurried back to the customers.
"Our best short sword would be the Anti-Frost, a peak Silver Ranked blade enchanted with fire properties," Jill informed the lady. "Would you like to take a look?"
"Peak Silver Ranked? And that's the best sword in your store? What a joke!" Lynnette Holde turned back to Paul Pickwatt. "You are asking me to pick a short sword from a place like this? Are you kidding me?"
"I didn't know that it would be this bad either!" Paul Pickwatt anxiously defended himself before turning to Jill. "What kind of a lousy store is this? Pierce Enchants? Is this all that the Pierce Family is capable of?"
Jill bit her lower lips in frustration as she endured the mocking.
How unlucky! This just had to happen when the young mistress was in the store!
"I am sorry that our goods are not able to fit your preferences," Jill apologised.
"This is not even about fitting our preferences! What gave you the idea of setting up an enchanting store when this is all that you amount to? Do you have no shame?" Paul Pickwatt did not intend to let up.
Even though it was just a casual decision, he had lost face by bringing his fiancée here. How could he just leave without venting out some frustration?
Who was he?
He was Paul Pickwatt, heir to the powerful Pickwatt Corporation!
While the Pierce Family was influential, the Pickwatt Corporation was not to be underestimated either!
He had nothing to fear!
"If you are unsatisfied with our goods, then we will not stop you from leaving," Jill was starting to lose her patience, but that only served to stir up Paul Pickwatt even more.
"Are you losing your temper right now? Such a cheap store, do you believe that I can buy up everything right now and throw it all on the ground outside to crush your reputation instantly? You are just a measly employee, and you dare lose your temper at me?"
Rachel initially wanted to observe how her employees deal with the matter, but at this point, she could no longer hold back anymore. As she was about to step forward to intervene, she saw Kyle stepping out from the backroom and heading straight towards the couple.
Since when did he even go in there?
And that thing in his hand…did he pick up a random short sword from the crate?
Oh shit, was he going to kill them? She had to stop him!
"What are you trying to do?" even before Rachel could act, the servant behind the couple had already stepped up in front of Kyle, obviously wary of the sword in his hands.
With that, everyone's attention immediately landed on Kyle.
But contrary to everyone's expectations, Kyle let out a wide smile as he presented the short sword in his hands to the servant.
"Oh please don't misunderstand! The thing is, we do have another enchanted short sword here. My colleague did not mention it just now because this is so precious that it is usually prohibited from sales. In fact, it is worth even more than all the other goods in the entire store combined! Do take a look!"
"Another short sword?" Lynnette Pierce stepped up to take a look, only to be further disappointed.
With just a single look at the plain design and crude edges of the short sword, she could tell that it was one of those common items that any commoner could afford!
This was a sword so precious that it was prohibited from sales?
Was this guy messing with them?
While the couple as well as their servant was examining the sword, Jack and Jill were looking at Rachel with worried eyes, silently hoping that she would step in. But Rachel ignored their pleading gaze, focusing on what Kyle was about to do next.
Now that things had progressed to such a stage, she could only pray that Kyle had a plan in mind.
Even if things really turned sour, she could at least guilt-trip Kyle into settling the mess that he had caused. With his power, Rachel believed that even the Pickwatt Corporation might not be too willing to offend him over such a small matter.
Of course, that would only be the last resort.
If possible, Rachel would definitely prefer to hide his existence until the family was strong enough to stand on its own!
"You dare mock us with such a cheap item? Do you think we had holes for eyes? You must be out of your mind!" Paul Pickwatt was the first to react, raising his hand to hit the short sword to the ground.
"Wait, young master!" the servant unexpectedly stepped up to stop Paul Pickwatt from swinging down his hand to strike the sword.
"There is something strange about this short sword!"
