Chapter 1 - Chapter I Act 1

It is high noon in the thick of the woods. A boy and his friend are chasing each other - playing, it seems. They are by themselves alone - isolated, but they seem to be enjoying their game, both of them wearing smiles as they frivolously pass the time. The boy is wearing a tunic, plain white in color but elegant in its embroidery, evidently made for those of noble stature, pinned onto it is a pendant, almost medallion-like, its golden hue reflecting the sunlight that strikes it, the shape - that of a bird's, an eagle's.

"It won't end like last time" the boy exclaims, his boastful demeanor almost completely drowned by his frail, subdued voice

"Last time you slipped and fell on a rock, idiot" his friend replies with a smirk, agitating the boy.

His companion is a young woman, almost of the same age, she carries herself with more confidence than him; where he sports a slouch and is erratic in his movement, she stands upright and paces with the gusto of a soldier. She is a noble as well, carrying a pendant similar to his, albeit shaped differently - hers, a crescent, a moon; from the way she appears, she seems like every other high-born, however, her disposition is quite uncommon for women of her kind.

A game of tag is what they look to be playing and the girl seems to be behind by an arm's length. The boy's eyes are locked only on what's directly ahead, he aims to win. She, however, seems to be giving him the lead; her focus not on the game, but intently on him.

"And really now, oh great Adnan-" she adds, speaking mockingly, "when was the last time you ever won at anything?"

"You condescending little-" an agitated Adnan replies, but suddenly pauses

"Just you wait!!" he resumes, shifting to another subject mid-sentence, his shrill voice this time giving off a certain intensity as he runs faster, trying to evade the girl's grasp

The girl's eyes widen as she notices something, however.

"Adie" she tells him, oblivious to what he had just said, no longer focused on Adnan but on what she sees by the distance. She is shrugged off however.

"Adie!" she tells him again, this time even louder. She is ignored once more

"Adie!!" She exclaims, almost at the top of her lungs, this time catching his attention

"What, Vera!?" A frustrated Adnan replies, shifting his focus on her

"What do you want!?" the boy asks further, screaming.

"You're running too fast! You're not paying attention!" Vera tries to tell him

"There's a-" she tries to add, but she stops mid-sentence. She comes to a halt as she realizes that she cannot prevent the inevitable.

Adnan's right foot is thrown off balance, no - rather - stopped dead in its tracks by an object underneath him - a tall object that his foot had just hit with incredible force and almost all of his weight. His speed working against him, Adnan is sent viciously flying.

"rock..."

Vera continues, almost ironically. Finishing her warning but to little effect, she seems to be aware of this. Her face frozen, she watches helplessly as her friend is ragdolled by his own inertia.

Adnan hits the ground head-first,

and suddenly, blackness.
