Chereads / The Necromantic Lord / Chapter 4 - Working his bones off

Chapter 4 - Working his bones off

"Skelly can you stand?" John asks worried, despite his loyal companion being an undead, he cares for him, for him master and follower wasn't really that important. Skelly tried many times to stand up but he was missing many bones in his legs, he arms almost gave in while truing push himself up too, many of those cracks were healing very slowly. Broken bones actually didn't start to grow back nor did they start healing. "Okay Skelly, stay sit right there, until you heal a little bit and then we can move on."

John went back to take a closer look of the strong skeleton had fought earlier which was stuck in the same position that it was after it was burned and stopped moving. It was intriguing because it looks like a statue now, his eyes were no longer glowing red and seem more like an empty husk. In front of him a box was sitting in the floor. "Ohhhh! this has to be a loot box!" So he opened the box and it quickly vaporized into non-existence, a couple of things were quickly transferred into his spatial, one was red colored potion, purple gemstone possibly an amethyst, a note, and a old looking book. The dark motes that were floating by the bones had finally recognized their master and were magnetically pulled and absorbed by John.

John was surprised at how many motes were floating in the air! When he killed his first skeleton, there was only one mote! That skeleton wasn't really strong to begin with, his strength was similar to a human being, maybe because he wasn't completely awakened. Many wild ideas started popping inside John's mind, like how the eyes of the skeletons started glowing, this skeleton on the other hand wasn't like the first couple ones that he fought John, despite his ideas he gave up on making things bigger or more complicated than they really were and continued searching. What those dark motes were at the moment he had no idea!

John decided to take a closer look at the skeleton, and he found that the skeleton was wearing a gold ring on his finger. He grabbed the ring and put into my spatial pocket, his time is limited at the moment. He knew he wasn't in a safe zone, the skeletons weren't particularly tough, but if caught unprepared they can be quite deadly; Specially with an injured ally.

John quickly puts the skeleton's corpse inside his spatial pouch. He glances at Skelly and he was waving at him, to come back, before he did that he quickly looted the other skeletons and walked back to Skelly, most of his bones were almost healed up, the cracks that he had were already about to close, but he was missing a couple bones. The fact that he was actually missing bones, made him feel a little guilty, he could have been a little more careful and this wouldn't have happened.

"Hey Skelly! I got bones from other skeletons are you able to use them for yourself." Skelly didn't really know. I took all the bones out of my spatial pouch and left a big pile of bones in front of him. Skelly was actually looking through the bones and started detaching the bones that were completely shattered and replaced them with bones that were intact. He still didn't stopped there, he looked through many other bones and started making a pile of his own. While searching, he stopped and was a staring at a particular bone confused and put on his pile. He once again started to detach a few couple bones that were already healed and quickly replaced them with other bones he found.

John was siting about to open his interface window and starting to feel a lot of pain, it hit him like a punch on his abdomen, he checked it was heavily bruised and it will probably take a couple weeks to heal. Any sudden movement triggered pain in places that I never thought were possible. Walking and doing everyday things would have probably out of the question. 'Was that bottle I got earlier a potion?' He quickly opened his spatial pouch and he check the bottle:

Lesser Healing Potion: It contains five uses, you can either directly drink it, apply it directly to the skin, but drinking it maximizes its efficiency. It heal internal and external bruises, and small external cuts almost instantaneously.

Without any hesitation a drank a mouthful of the potion and the pain was instantly gone.

I take a look at the stone, the note and the book:

The note was actually a "Lesser Healing Potion" recipe that required to have the alchemist profession to be able to learn it.

The torn book was actually an universal skill: "The all-knowing identifying skill: the character is able to identify any object's name and basic description upon activating the skill. It was an skill created by the titan of knowledge, to catalogue and identify things on the field, he made a skill to directly use his secret catalogue and library from far away and was passed down to his offspring." I read the book and it actually burned after I finished reading it, as the words were actually imprinted in his brain.

**********************************************************************************************************

The Mind Titan had been notified by his Catalogue that a new user have been registered to his library. He quickly dismissed the notification without even looking at the screen, slightly irritated 'Such a lowly being is not worth my time. In a couple days he'll eventually be dead, it's going to get worst and worst as time goes on, all I care is knowledge, those pathetic beings can die for all care...'

Window notification: This skill links your interface with an external database property of a Titan. Your current access is restricted and will be dependent of rank and performance. You can only identify objects that are Rank F++ and below anything above. The all-knowing catalogue is not perfect and will not identify everything.

While Skelly was working through his pile, John was reading the tome. The first layer contain a lot of fundamental knowledge about necromancy, which he wasn't able to completely memorize. He read how necromancy branches into some sub-disciplines in necromancy, the names of these branches are actually not named and are just briefly talked about. It was more of an introduction, than anything else it explained a little more about the skeletons, and their tiers.

Skeletons like Skelly, or skeleton civilians are usually only able to do laborious work like mining, farming and foraging, their range of attack is limited and they can't run. They can lunge a couple times but that's it. They can through their own effort able to polish their skills and become fighters, warriors, archers, hunters and scouts. Some can even become artisan like blacksmiths, carpenters, builders and tailors. There are some ways to help them grow and become stronger, but the way to do these are actually on one the next layers, meaning I don't have enough access to get more information and the possibility was only just vaguely mentioned.

John stopped reading the Tome and put it back in his spatial bag, seeing that Skelly was actually done working on his bones, his bones no longer red as if blood had been washed out of his body. He signaled something to me, 'I guess he should be done and ready to move on' he put all those bones from the pile back into my spatial pouch.

The skeleton that were struggling on the tombs had finally able to loosen themselves and started once again walking towards to him and some skeletons were actually so stuck that they could only poke their heads because the dirt cave in and made them unable to move from the neck down it actually.
