Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Adoption

I am (Full Name), living in the (Country). My country was attacked by omnics during the Omnic Crisis. My family.....was dead and I'm the only one left. I was rescued by Overwatch, an organization bent to stop the war between humans and omnics. I was raised in an orphanage but a member of the Overwatch team, a soldier named Jack Morrison adopted me as his (son/daughter). I became a part of Overwatch then and so I learned to become one of them.

(Y/N)

The alarm sounded. Ugh why does it have to be early? I whined a bit. I reached out my hand where the alarm clock was placed; a lamp table right beside my bed. I tubbed my eyes and sought what time is it. I grabbed the clock and I was startled by the time. 4:00, I wondered. Jack, I mean my "father" set this up last night while I slept, I should've known. He's too strict for me but I like him because he's the one who adopted me since my family died. I remembered that time when he adopted me at the orphanage.

§FLASHBACK§

"Where's mommy?" I whined.

"You're mother's gone kid. Were gonna put you to a safe haven. You'll be fine." A woman dressed in a soldier suit took me and brought in front of the orphanage I was about to live on. The sign says 'Mercy's Grace Orphanage' in capital letters. Below it was 'HOME FOR THE HOMELESS CHILDREN' in small capital letters. In the entrance three people, a man and two women greeted me in decent attire. They knew they're gonna take me in. I continue to whine until I cry as I did tantrum jumps, going wilder as I got near the three people waiting for me. The woman struggled to handle my sudden tantrum as she carried me seriously like she's out of patience. It will be alright she said, her voice resembling a bit impatient. Until she handled me to the three caretakers. I cried a lot, longing for mom and dad.

I glanced behind. Behind the woman was a big army blue armored truck. A man with blonde hair and a glass in his right eye stared at me from the window with pity.

Then the three people started to calm me down. The woman with a green shirt and denim jeans hugged me like ensuring that I would not run. While the man in a nurse uniform did some unnecessary morale to calm me down.

"Kid, do not worry, we'll take care of you. We will be your new parents. You'll be having fun here with your new brothers and sisters." The woman with a curly hair in a pink checkered shirt and stripped jeans kneeled and cupped my cheek and wiped out my tears.

I calmed down a bit then said. "But where's mommy? Daddy and sis?"

The three exchanged looks and glanced at each other. The other woman nodded as a signal.

She swallowed then uttered the words I wasn't going to accept or hear. "Your family died." She said with hesitation. It isn't easy to tell in front of a child that his/her family died just because he/she has no full perception of his/her surroundings.

"That wasn't true. My mother is still alive!" I shouted, as tears welled up in my eyes again. Then the army woman started to wave goodbye.

"Please take care of (Y/N)." She said softly.

"We will." The woman in green replied.

Then the soldier left and went to the truck.

Jack Morrison

"Will the girl be alright?" I asked as I rested my elbow over the window.

"Yeah. She's poor. I wanted to adopt her. She's full of pity." My lieutenant sighed as she entered the car and started to insert the keys. The truck rumbled to life.

I sighed. "Let's go now Lieutenant before Winston might complain about the new mission in Gibraltar. I do not want to keep our comrades waiting."

A sense of hopelessness overcame her. "Yes Commander." Then we went out of the orphanage.

We approached the gate as I gave a signal to the security guard that patrolled around the area a bit. He gestured back as he opened the left gate. Then we went out of the orphanage, leading through the main road.

"Where did we found that child Neera?" I asked out of curiosity.

"In a secret mission to (your country) Commander. Why would you ask?" She replied.

I was deadpanned for a while. She knew my intention.

"Oh I see. You're going to adopt (Y/N)." Neera's tone was very perceivable. Her eyes only laid on the road, her consciousness focused on driving. We just drove passed the countryside, specifically in Malibu. It's 9:43 am in my watch and few cars just passed by.

I nervously chuckled. "No. I'm just curious."

She made that 'oh is that so' smile. Now she locked her aim at my head this time, ready to shoot me from her sniper perception.

"Okay you got me. But would it be difficult to raise a child?" I surrendered my hands in the air in defeat.

"Well you should be ready for anything that might hinder you in raising a child. In any case, you should give all your efforts to raise her right. Anyway you're in the right age to be a father." Her words of wisdom gave me clarity. Neera was a mother of two children in the age of 19. And I knew she experienced many of her hardships in life.

"Nah. I do not know how to be a father." I frowned as I glanced through the window.

"Then why don't you try to be one? There is always an opportunity to be that." Neera's tone was full of encouragement.

Despite all the victories I win to save the world from robots, I was all alone at that times.

Maybe I should take a break..

Maybe I should start my own family...

But I couldn't. The world still needs me. The world still needs heroes.

And I can influence heroism through family.

I'm going to adopt (Y/N).

In a serious tone I ordered, "Neera, we'll go back to th.."

"Understood." She suddenly turned back and drove a bit faster. How quick Neera. She knew it already.

(Y/N)

The truck left. I cried a lot. The three people still succeeded in taking me inside the orphanage. Now I'm in a room with the other orphans. I sat by the corner still crying but silently.

3 minutes later

Jack Morrison

"Can I see the child that she left ago?" I asked the woman in green in a counter.

"Oh yes, I see. You're gonna adopt (Y/N)." She smiled kindly.

"Uh yeah. I'm in pity with her." I glanced at the room where (Y/N) was placed I saw her just by the window sitting in a corner, crying silently. Such a pity.

"I'll settle the documents ASAP." I said sternly without a gesture.

"Then you may take (Y/N)." She gestured.

I immediately went to the room where (Y/N) was kept. I slowly opened the door. The kids suddenly stared at me like I was going to adopt them. I'm only here to adopt (Y/N).

I slowly tiptoed towards (Y/N).

(Y/N)

Someone came in by the door. I never glanced, I still continue to cry silently when suddenly I felt someone patted my head.

"Daddy's here." I heard a low, yet a voice of hope. I immediately rose my head. It was the man in the truck. He's not my dad but resembles much of him. At last he's gonna take care of me. Then tears welled up my eyes as I hugged him. He hugged me back.

"Daddy." I cried a lot, letting all my hopelessness out. I felt warm and carefree.

"Don't worry kid. Daddy's gonna take care of you." He felt like he was really my father. Then something fell on my back lightly.

Jack Morrison

A tear fell from my right eye. This is the feeling of what it's like to be a father. It's great.

4 hours later

(Y/N)

And he adopted me. The documents are settled. And he was officially my foster father. I was so happy that time. And that's how I got into Overwatch. A new family. A new beginning.
