Chapter 9 - Let The Hunt Begin

Within seconds of stepping out of his room Dino saw the devastation. Bodies of soldiers and scientists he had seen working merely hours before, now lay scattered across the corridor he had stepped into.

Rather than feel tired or upset about what he was seeing, only one word came to mind when he looked other the bodies.

"WEAK!!!!!"

It was as if his whole body seemed to want to scream it, he could only link the feeling to be another side effect of the Apex classification. Though he was only currently the size of an eleven-year-old carrying Eddie was no problem at all considering the strength he now possessed.

Fires had been lite in some of the rooms obviously to create chaos and make people panic but oddly it was doing the opposite to Dino. He felt calm and composed, maybe because he needed to get his friend to safety or maybe it was something else; he didn't have the time to think about it right now.

Making his way further down the corridor's voices could be heard. Making his way through the corridor's the voices got louder and movement could now be heard. He realized the only way to get out of the facility was to fight his way out, which was going to be hard whilst having to protect Eddie.

Concentrating his senses, he listened to the voices and footsteps surrounding him. He quickly began to analysis and estimate just how many people he was up against.

The more he concentrated, the more his senses awakened, the more he awakened the better his concentration, it was a perfect loop until something finally clicked into place.

[Ding]

[Host's mind has now slipped into a state between conscious and unconscious….]

[Host's instinct taking over….]

A small voice in his mind could be heard quietly saying.

"Let's hunt."

-

When Dino slipped into the state between states, as his instincts took over everything suddenly became clear. His eyes began to glow in a sinister shade of dark red. His hair seemed to flow in the air as if kissed by the wind. His canine teeth sharpened till they were as sharp as knives. His muscles strengthened themselves and his body was in perfect sync with his mind.

Now the weight he once felt from Eddie was barely noticeable. Pulling his gun from its holster he started to move forward.

Passing door after door. Body after body. When finally there was movement. Passing by a door, something jumped out to attack him, with no time to think, Dino quickly counted elbowing the enemy to the face and finishing him with a bullet to the head.

Removing the helmet of his attacker, Dino found it to be a human and by the scars on his face his attacker was a mercenary; a highly trained one at that. Hearing footsteps approaching from around the nearest corner, Dino dropped the Merc to the floor and began to sprint towards the direction of the footsteps.

He sprinted toward the corner the footsteps were approaching from, Dino performed a running slide and raised his weapon. Four Mercs came into view from around the corner, before any of them could react Dino pulled the trigger.

"BANG!"

"BANG!"

"BANG!"

"BANG!"

Dino's slide came to an end. The four Mercs simultaneously hit the floor. Walking toward the downed Mercs, Dino began to collect their weapons and place them in the inventory. Unsure whether he should collect their armour to, he went to his most trusted adviser.

'Tory, Should I collect their armour?'

[I would advise host against doing that, as its quality is very poor compared to armour which can be purchased from the system shop.]

'Roger that, don't collect the armour. Should I keep collecting the weapons?'

[Yes host. Keeping the weapons will stop them from returning to enemy hands.]

'Copy that.'

He finished collecting the last of the weapons, checked on Eddie and within minutes was once again on his way.

He moved through the last of the corridors as quietly as possible. Despite being able to fight his way out, it would draw too much attention to him if all the people that were involved in the attack were dead and he and Eddie were the only ones still alive; especially considering the fact that Eddie was unconscious.

Now close to the exit, Dino slowed his sprint to a walk; keeping a careful watch of his surroundings and making sure no one could get the jump on him.

Rounding the final corner the lobby of the Research Institute spread out before him. His eyes widened. Tens of mercenaries were guarding the exit; Some being very heavily armed.

Though Dino was strong, it was almost impossible for him to take on that many people and survive while carrying Eddie. That wasn't even the worst of what he discovered. Along with the mercenaries there was a Mech, standing at the height of 3 meters fully armed with 2 machine gun turrets and 2 miniature cannon turrets. In addition to all of that, none of them were holding in one position, they were constantly moving and patrolling leaving him no way to tactically take them out one by one without causing a disturbance. He hid behind cover to avoid been seen, he needed a plan and fast.

'Tory be honest, am I screwed?'

There was a pause before he received his answer.

[Yes host, currently you are.]

'What do you mean by currently?'

[There is still a way to get out of this situation perfectly fine.]

'Well what is it?'

[I can help but there will be a draw back.]

'What would you do? And what would that drawback be?'

[I would run interference on the the enemies armour and Mech leaving us essentially invisible to them, you could then either escape or take them out. The drawback is that Host wouldn't be able to access the system shop for 1 month.]

'Would I still be able to speak with you?'

[Yes host.]

A smile graced Dino's face.

'Well what are we waiting for then? Let's do this!'
