They weren't coming
Elmer, I could understand why he wasn't coming but that doesn't mean that I was happy about it, Aren and Kyle's letter had arrived just yesterday telling me that their shop in London was doing wonderfully and that they didn't want to leave it just when they were at their peak and Vice... God bless him had found another innocent to corrupt
---
"His name is Gregory Mother and I'm just starting to get him to accept who he is and that it isn't a sin to be interested in another man, you understand don't you mother? I can't just leave him like this, questioning and confused, the sooner I get him to accept who he is the sooner I get to teach him exactly how different it is to be with a man than it is to be with a woman"
---
I could almost see his smirk as he said those words to me over the telephone, all my son's had yet to make me a grandmother or to marry but Vice would surely be the first, whether it was to marry a woman and give me grandchildren or to find love with a man and never marry since it was not legal to marry the same sex in this country
A loud unladylike sigh escaped me, it had been almost a year and two since I last saw my son's and it has been even longer since I last left this estate. The business that my eldest was to take over has kept me grounded in this house because Elmer had a dream of being a painter and none of the three triplets wanted to take over the shipyard business of the Winscott, so of course I, as the mother of the hiers of the business could not let it disappear just like that
Another sigh came out, louder than the last "If you continue to sigh like that Lady McGarry you'll get wrinkles" the man sitting behind the big wooden desk said startling the Dot
His bushy dark eyebrows rise and his brown eyes twinkled in amusement at her beautiful face scrunching up in distaste, he didn't know if the saying was true but he knew it would be impossible for the Lady McGarry to be subjected to any imperfections because in his eyes the Lady was without a word perfect. Despite her age she looked just as young as her son's, she had the near white-blond hair that all the Winscott boys had inherited, her nature born eyes were the brightest green he had ever seen even if they were tainted with a pretty gray silver, the green was still the prominent colour
With the small body of a fairy and curves that made him lose his thoughts more often than not the Lady was a sight to behold, it was a wonder that most men came to do business with her, if not to try to court her than it was to just to get a glimpse of the enchanting fairy
"Oh shush Victor, I have the right to express my sadness in my own home do I not," asked lady McGarry sending a glare to her husband's former secretary
The glare made Victor's body sprout goosebumps and not the bad kind
"Forgive me Lady, are the boys not coming this time either?" Victor asks softly noticing the underlying sadness showing on the Lady's face, knowing the only people who could put that expression on her face were her son's and thoughts of her late husband
"I'm afraid so Victor, Elmer, Aren and Kyle all have work they could not leave behind and you know how Vice is, once he gets his claws on something or someone he can't let go until he's satisfied" Dot says as if she wasn't bothered but in truth her heart missed her boys and their constant neglection to her made it seem like she was the only one missing her family
When they first left to make their own lives and fulfil their dreams at the age of 15, Dot had made them promise to send letters every week to tell her how they were doing and if they were doing well, and at first they had but as the weeks passed the letters gradually got shorter and less descriptive until the letters stopped and only came on a rare day
Dot understood that they were busy and had made lives of their own but it didn't take much to write a letter or pick up a telephone to call her and chat for a bit, but even if they had forgotten Dot hadn't, she called every week even if most of her calls and letters went unanswered
"Lady McGarry?" Victor called breaking her out of her depressed thoughts
She looked at the handsome young man in front of her, he was a tall and skinny man but able to turn more than a few womanly heads with his light brown eyes full of concern and his shaggy dark hair, if Dot was a few years younger than she may have pursued the man , but alas her age, the lingering feelings she had for her late husband and his connection to her deceased husband stopped her
"I'm quite alright Victor, I've got you here to keep me company don't I?" Dot said, jokingly making the young lad blush from his neck to his cheeks
"Of course Lady McGarry," he said rather seriously "I'll stay by your side as long as you need me to"
Dot smile sweetly while quietly staring at the determined eyes of the young man. Oh how she wished her heart would beat for this man, she wished that she didn't just see him as her husband's loyal secretary, unfortunately, that is exactly what she see's him as
"Thank you Victor, for everything that you've done for this family" The Lady says bringing a big genuine smile on his face "Now I think I should go tell Mea to stop the preparations before she's done" Dot said standing up from the Royal red couch that her husband would spend most of his time in, she now understood why he like the chair, it was the most comfortable thing She's ever sat on, Dot was afraid that if she sat there any longer she may not be able to rise up again
So she reluctantly started for the door moving away from the most comfortable chair on earth, as she was about to step out of the big office Victor's voice called her and she turned "I really meant what I said Lady Mc... Dot, as long as you need me I'll always be here"
Dot only smiled at the man and didn't say anything as she left the wonderfully designed office that now belonged to her
Oh if only her heart didn't die the day her husband left this world
If only...
