Chapter 37 - 37 - Million Dollar Question

While the old couple continued their banter, George was observing quietly. She witnessed first hand how great the marriage of her parents-in-law are.

At the same time, Cody, who was also ignored by his parents, walked slowly to give his wife a hug. He also signalled the servants to bring his parents luggage to one of the guest rooms. He grew up seeing the great relationship between his parents that he also dreamed of having a great married life.

The scene lasted for sometime. A young husband hugging his wife's waist from behind while resting his chin to n her neck from one side, and an elderly couple arguing animatedly (and oh so lovingly) on the other. It was a very heartwarming sight.

The older Chiongs eventually went up to their room to change into house clothes while the younger ones busied themselves to prepare for dinner.

Dinnertime soon arrived and the four were seated in the dining hall.

"Chu, I decided to help you out at JADE. You can take a long break," Mr. Chiong said, calling Cody by his traditional name.

"Dad, things have settled for a while now. We don't even have to stay in the office for a long time everyday. You and Mom could just have fun and enjoy your retirement," Cody responded.

"Hijo, what your dad is doing is give the two of you a chance to go on a honeymoon trip. You have been married for almost two years now and all you both did was work," answered Mrs. Chiong agitatedly.

George blushed from what her mother-in-law said. Although it is true that they have not gone on a trip, but she felt that what she and Cody is sharing now is a healthy balance.

Cody somehow understood his wife's thoughts, so he said, "Mom, we don't need a trip right now. We are doing fine. We can just take a break whenever. Don't worry about us. We will surely tell you if we need help in the future, alright?"

"Look at your son! This is all your fault!" Exclaimed the old lady.

"Yes, honey. I'm sorry, it's my bad. Now, eat first, we will talk later," answered the old man indulgently.

Everyone stopped talking after that and focused on their thoughts. Cody was thinking about holding a grand wedding ceremony in time for their second wedding anniversary. George was thinking how Cody is similar to his father. The couple were both thinking of the million dollar question which they asked as soon as they were done eating.

"Are you both sure, you won't go on a trip?"

They just nodded.

"Then, when are you going to let us hold our grandchildren?!"

Cody coughed slightly and said, "Oh, you're worried about that? You need not be, mom. We are actively working on that... And because of that, we have to leave you two here to enjoy the rest of your evening. We're heading up."

George secretly pinched him as she was a bit embarrassed by what he was insinuating. But Cody simply pulled her to him and they both walked up the stairs, leaving his parents behind.
