As they work, George thought of checking her period tracker out of curiosity. That was when she realized that it was late for a couple of days. She didn't give it much thought though. There were several instances in the past that she would be delayed.
She continued to go to work with Cody and helped him deal with company concerns. She also tagged along whenever he had meetings. The employees who noticed this were glad that she is always there. That way, the big boss will never have a chance to scold anybody.
One afternoon, there was a meeting called for all mid level supervisors. However, the little wife was feeling sleepy. Cody told her to stay at the resting lounge while he meet his people.
"No, I'll go with you," George said.
"Love, you look really tired. The past week has been hectic. Stay here and rest, alright?"
"But, I want you by my side," she replied with a pout.
"Sweetheart, I'll just be in the next room, okay. The meeting will be quick," Cody said, gently touching her chin.
George simply shook her head, not saying anything.
"Baby, please ... just rest. I feel really bad for making you work that hard. I can't bear to see you this tired," he pleaded.
"Then, stay here with me. I want you close by," she insisted.
With that, Cody called in Allen to take over the meeting and went inside the lounge to cuddle his wife to sleep. And for the rest of the week, George has even become more clingy.
At home, if she is awake before Cody takes his shower, she would ask him to keep the door open so she is assured that he is just there. When he brings home some work, she would also stay in the study with him. After some time, he decided to work in their bedroom so she is able to sleep while he works.
However, when this played on for another week, he felt unsettled. He wasn't able to cook for her anymore because she doesn't want to stay in the kitchen. While he is pleased that the little wife can't seem to part with him, he is also confused if he did something that may have made her insecure.
He tried talking to her about it in a subtle manner but got nothing. The unsettling feeling intensified until, all of a sudden, George said, "Hon, I need to go somewhere. Hiro will drive me there."
"I don't have anything scheduled now, love. Let me accompany you."
"No. You will get tired of me if we're always together. I'll manage," she replied, giving him a peck at the same time.
He insisted but she was also firm in going without him. She got her way in the end. Cody couldn't help but go with whatever she wants.
When the car vanished from his sight, he pondered over his wife's behavior in the past few days. It seemed as if she was afraid to part with him even for a moment. However, today, it's the exact opposite. She acted like she couldn't wait to get away from him.
He wanted to ignore all those and went to work. Unfortunately, the nagging feeling did not allow him to concentrate.
