Lufti looked up, he was leaning up against the wall, and next to him was a window. He was the only one who knew that Asrael never really cared about him, he wasn't his priority. None of them were, he was simply the least ignored.
Lufti came from a wealthy background, until he caused his family to go bankrupt. He was 20 when he was kicked out and left on the streets.
He'd be forever thankful for Asrael who picked him up off the curb and brought him out of the rain. Only, Asrael's kindness had a price. Lufti wasn't only his right hand man, he belonged to the boy.
Asrael looked like he barely aged a day since then, but Lufti was already 37, and he looked like it too. Over the years, Lufti knew so much about the boy, yet the boy never learned a thing about him.
Lufti would gladly take a bullet for him, but in the end would only be called an idiot. Asrael was immortal, he took his own bullets himself, and to add to that, no one was worthy enough for Asrael to take a bullet for them.
If you got shot, he wouldn't save you. If you died, you were weak.
Lufti smiled, though it was hard to decipher.
"What are you thinking about?" Merlin asked as he lit a cigarette.
"How the hell I got here."
Merlin laughed, showing his yellow teeth. " you were one of the lucky ones, you and the Baldwin's. The rest of us came from broken families."
"What about Delorah? She came from a good family."
"She's a runaway, how good could her family have been?" Merlin blew a cloud of smoke.
"Well, it wasn't broken."
Just then, Ginny came stammering into view, he was struggling to hide his fear. He looked out of sorts.
"Carter... Gavin... They..." Ginny trailed off.
Merlin looked towards Lufti, then at Ginny. "Spit it out boy." He held his cigarette between two fingers.
"There are intruders!" Ginny managed to get out a few words.
"Then gather up a few and take em' out." Merlin waved his hand to shoo him off.
"No, they... bullets can't kill them!" Ginny tightened his fists.
"Then use knives." Merlin wasn't the brightest of the bunch.
"You idiot." Lufti bonked him on the head with a fist and took off. "I'll go get Asrael, you two should go gather everyone near an escape route."
Lufti hurried towards the 2nd floor, he kept increasing his pace until he was at a door. He didn't bother knocking as he opened it.
Inside, there was a bed, and on that bed there was a boy. He was staring up at the ceiling. "Damnit Lufti, what have I told you about-"
"There are intruders! Ginny said they won't die!"
"Immortals?" Asrael sat up, then swung his legs off the bed. He picked his black crown up off his bedside and put it on his head. Seeing that Lufti nodded, he asked: "Where are the others?"
"I directed them to the escape routes." Lufti notified.
"Good job, follow them out then, I'll go find the immortals..."
