Chapter 3 - Growing Up – 1

(Abaddon's POV)

[Warning: Time skips ahead]

It has been a year since I was born. My baby life was… boring. Besides being breastfed and… doing my necessities, I just paid attention to my surroundings to learn the language of this world. That I managed, I can already understand everything that my parents speak.

I also discovered that I am the child of a baron, meaning, I'm a noble. The city is surprisingly big with a big wall all around, for what I can see, around 15 meters tall. From what I overheard, this city is on the border of the kingdom, near a quite dangerous forest filled with monsters.

The reason why the city is fortified is because of that, as monster attacks are frequent. My father is the one responsible for the border as well for stopping monster attacks. I also discovered some names. My mother's name is Alexa Grigori, and my father's name is Donovan Grigori.

My name is Abaddon Grigori, inheriting my father's surname. I also discovered something that I didn't expect when I tried to think "status" a few days ago.

[Name: Abaddon Grigori] [Level: 1]

[Titles: none]

[physical strength: 4]

[Intelligence: 1.500]

[mana: 500.000]

[Agility: 10]

[Skills: Status Concealment]

[Blessings: Blessing of Lisanna, the Goddess of Death]

It's different from earth's system. It's more grounded without having parameters such as strength, constitution, wisdom, etc. like it used to be on my world. After focusing on it, I could check my skill's information.

[Hello! Abaddon, I left this skill here as a present. You're an abnormal child after all. By default, this skill allows you to conceal your status, making them look average for your age. Eventually, when you learn to control it, you will be able to display anything within the original values of your status. This skill is also hidden, so don't worry about it, alright? Go on and work hard!]

A message from the goddess. Good enough, this will help me a lot. But for now, I should start thinking about becoming stronger. yes, I may be a one-year old baby, but I should already start becoming more powerful.

For magic… there is already a lot that I can do. After all, I'm old in soul, and studied a lot of magic. Even my nickname, "The Destroyer", isn't only inherited with the name of Abaddon. I was already called Destruction Demon even before for my original magic, Annihilation.

I don't think that this new body has the necessary magical control for that, but eventually, I will be able to use it. I should also be able to use magic to enhance my body without immediate damage or lasting damage.

I can use magic to enhance my muscles without gaining much mass to not raises suspicious. At the moment, I'm practicing walking with the supervision of the head maid that made my delivery, Miranda. Recently, my mother and father are busy as a monster wave is approaching, and they are busy preparing to face them.

(Miranda): "Young Master, be careful."

She says, a bit worried as I walk a bit unsteadily. A young body is certainly inconvenient. I see advantage of the size, but I'm too young to do anything.

(Abaddon): "I'm fine."

I answered. Recently, I've been practicing my speech, now I'm able to talk without stumbling in my words. My parents are certain that I am a prodigy. I'm quite liking this life. My mom spoiling me is nice, and a gentle father too. Every time I look at my new mom's face I remember my original mother, Alessa.

They're quite alike, gentle, calm and intelligent, as well quite firm when they need to be. I like them, they're nice parents. Also, I apparently have older siblings. Three of them in fact… from my father's second wife. Apparently, polygamy is a thing here.

I have an elder sister who just hit two years and two twin brothers, both three years older than me. They live at the capital on my father's manor at the capital, helping him with his duties in the capital.

He goes there every year and stays there three months, or so I heard from my mother. Well, he indeed went there this year, so I can confirm that. Anyway, I need some time alone, Miranda is nice, but I need some time alone to practice magic. Ah, I want to grow up soon~~

I think so as I practice walking.

(Alexa's POV)

I look at my son reading a book while sitting outside below a tree from a window of the second floor of the mansion. My heart is filled with warmth and pride as I watch him sitting there under the shadow of the tree, the gentle breeze making the grass sway.

(Donovan): "Oh, he's reading again?"

Asks my husband, approaching in the corridor. I nod, smiling.

(Alexa): "Yes. And for the looks of it, it's a book on history of the Starlight Kingdom."

I say. The Starlight Kingdom, the kingdom where me and my husband are subordinates to. The kingdom is ancient and famous for its magicians. Me and my husband are example of such thing, we are both mages that were trained at the Magic Academy in the capital.

We are both famous mages who adventured through the world. My husband acquired a noble title due his achievements, and I married him soon after. We have been living here quite peacefully, and three years ago, I gave birth to my son, Abaddon.

My husband though it was a strange name, but I just felt like it was the name for him, just popping up on my head. I think it's a marvelous name, with some nobility to it. my husband approaches and hugs me from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder and looking to our son.

(Donovan): "Oh, that book from the collection about the kingdom, right? It's quite a complicated book. Are you sure that he can read it properly?"

(Alexa): "Yes. He's a prodigy after all."

(Donovan): "Yes. He has potential to be even greater than me, you and Marielle together."

I nod, thinking about the second wife of my husband, and the best friend that I ever had, Marielle Felstad Grigori. She was my rival at the academy when we were young, but we were still friends. And after some incidents, she ended up joining us as my husband's second wife.

Unfortunately, she couldn't come here to live with us. She had to stay in the capital to help with the duties of my husband and administrate the manor. I want her to meet my son so badly.

(Donovan): "He truly looks like you."

My husband said, commenting on our son's appearance. I giggled.

(Alexa): "He may like me, but he is handsome as you are. He's pale and has blue eyes with black hair. He will break a lot of hearts like you did."

(Donovan): "Don't speak like that. You and Marielle are the only ones for me."

He said seriously. I could only smile.

(Alexa): "I know that, but the other girls in the academy didn't. the absurd amount of love letters and confessions that you turned down prove that."

(Donovan): "Ugh…"

After that, he couldn't answer. I giggled and said as I looked at Abaddon on the garden.

(Alexa): "Moreover, can you feel it? the absurd amount of mana that our son has?"

I ask, and my husband groans.

(Donovan): "How could I not? It's hard not to feel. Normal people and normal mages might not be able to tell, but we can tell perfectly. It's more than you, I and Marielle have together by far. Not only that, he already shows signs of being able to control it, as his mana isn't leaking everywhere."

Yes, Donovan is right. Normally, someone with massive mana would have it leaking everywhere if they didn't know how to make it flow through the body and keep it stable, often resulting in poor health.

But our Abaddon already can control his magic, and quite effortlessly in the way he is doing. If I had to describe it… think of a vast sea, where several ships, us the mages, sail. Me and my husband are a pair of gigantic galleons, armed to the teeth with magic cannons.

And our child… is a gigantic leviathan that could swallow us whole with one bite. It's so amazing to the point it's dangerous. There aren't many people that can feel this power, but monsters can feel it quite easily. If it weren't for the barrier that we put around the city, we would be already overrun by monsters.

(Donovan): "I think that we should start teaching him magic."

(Alexa): "Are you sure? Isn't he too young?"

(Donovan): "He's already smart. And his control over magic power… he has talent."
