I watched as two guys floated in the air above the waters. Both had different looks and different style of robes. One looked middle-aged while the other looked close to elderly. The older one had fiery robes that almost seemed as if they were about to jump out to burn the air. The other guy had regular black robes with nothing special looking. Both had injuries on their bodies and their hair disheveled.
Not wanting to be noticed, I hid myself within and barely peeked out. I had no idea if people with high cultivation can see my soul form. And it's best to play careful even if I'm lazy. Feeling a sense scan the area before retracting in less than a second, which I'm guessing divine sense, I sighed in relief.
"Leonardo Cade! You can't get away! You'll pay the price of stealing my spirit grade Stormguard!" said the elderly man whose eyes were bloodshot in anger.
"Humph! Old man Simon! Go back your clan! You can't defeat me!" said the middle-aged man who also had bloodshot eyes. Both of them released their auras which were extremely vast and deep.
The fight was so fast that I couldn't register their movements. Their attacks seemed as though they instantly appeared next to each other while each punch seemed as if they could crush mountains. All the Qi and elemental energy nearby was boiling. Even the huge island was crumbling and the water creating tsunamis. Marine life nearby had ran away in fright or was hiding in fear, making the water-world seemingly desolate. The water was frantically rushing about, even causing my body to shake while holding on.
After several hours, both finally stopped. It was a stalemate, as both sides had equal injuries. The island by now was half ruined. Old man Simon clicked his tongue as he pulled out a long metal needle which was covered in strange symbols and strong fluctuations of energy. Leonardo's face paled in horror. "H-heavenly grade weapon?! Impossible!"
"He-he. It's called Soulshard Wishaway. It can even kill people two ranks higher than you. So accept your death!" he yelled as Qi was injected into it. It's luminosity went up several times as he threw it with all his strength towards Leonardo.
He didn't even have time to move as the needle went through his body, shattering his soul. Pieces scattered in different parts of his body. His eyes turned dull before falling out of the sky. Simon waved his hand and the guy's body flew towards him. All his belongings were quickly taken away before being left almost completely naked. He sighed with pain on his face.
"That's actually a pseudo heavenly grade soul weapon. I was originally saving it as a life-saving treasure, as it can only be used once. But I couldn't waste any more time. It's a shame. I need to quickly return and recuperate," he said as he watched the needle turn to dust.
Leonardo's body fell out of the sky and into the water. Simon turned into a ray of light and left the scene. Things went quiet for a few minutes before I finally came out, sighing in relief that the old man finally left. I had to sit inside because he left his divine sense scanning the area for a while before retracting it. It would a tragic and stupid end to my reincarnation if I was caught like that.
That battle was way too intense, and just the energies released were enough to kill any normal marine life. If it wasn't for the devouring laws and the tough exoskeleton, I would've died like that, including my soul. I wasn't injured, but the fight gave me an understanding of how terribly strong creatures in the Immortal Realm are.
But things aren't in vain. I had been practicing with Qi for the past few days along with elemental water. I can use both to propel my body for short distances. Since I'd like to have a look at the guy's body before marine life comes over to feast upon him, utilizing this is a better solution. The good thing is his body is less than a hundred meters away.
Using devour laws and Qi, I absorbed some elemental water from the surroundings and into my body. Doing this drained my Qi, and caused my meridians to feel painful. I channeled it into my flat bottom, where the tiny legs are. Letting go of the rock, my body propelled off the side of the rock. I failed miserably and fell onto a flat coral surface on my belly.
This was my first time, but I didn't give up. I slowly used the elemental water to flip myself over. This time I attempted to just hover. I slowly lifted off the ground and unstably hovered. I only lasted a few seconds before falling back due to instability. I had thought this would be easier, but I guess I was wrong.
Using devour to quickly replenish both Qi and elemental water, I reattempted twenty minutes later, but lasting slightly longer. After an unknown amount of hours, I reached a record of floating for several minutes. With my new confidence, I attempted to float towards the body. As my dome shaped body is relatively even, it kept my movement stable like a plane.
Taking a rest two times, I reached a few meters away from the body. At first, I was confused as to why no marine life had come out to eat the body. Then I understood. Even though the guy's soul is shattered, his body is still alive, allowing his Qi and vitality to recover. Even the soul shards seem to be slowly moving, in an attempt to recover. I noticed strange energy fluctuations being emitted from his body.
With my devour ability, I was able to see through the fluctuations and understand their purpose. On the surface and through divine sense, the fluctuations disguised his vitality to make it extremely low and weak. When the guy finally left along with his divine sense, it seemed as though the mechanism partially collapsed, which explains no marine life.
From my knowledge of novels, I know that the person must have rich blood essence. Otherwise there'd be no need to conceal his vitality. The old guy would've also taken his body to extract his essence if it wasn't weak.
I don't wanna give the guy the chance to recover. If I can absorb his essence and possible his soul fragments with devour, would've that be extremely beneficial to me, along with his knowledge?
