Cookie didn't understand the meaning behind these words but decided not to question it anymore.
"You're welcome! Now don't let the other girls keep waiting. The night is about to end you know. You should dance till you can't dance anymore. This could be even your last chance do dance with so many girls" She jokingly said
But both of them knew this was not true, with Uoron's cute features which would surely develop into one of the most handsome bachelor in the future he wouldn't lack any woman to choose from.
Cookie already knew he was definitely not interested in her or any other girl for that matter. Despite this, even just once, she wanted to become selfish and keep him to herself through making this a memorable moment though this moment is very painful that she rather forgets about it.
"Don't hesitate, I already got my chance and beside it's our last day of high school. We should totally enjoy our youth!" She said with forced enthusiasm.
By now the song had already ended, she untangled his hands around her waist and held it a minute longer then turned him around and slightly pushed him towards the eager waiting crowd of girls.
"Hurry!" She said playfully at him
He was surprised by her eagerness and cheerfulness, he knew she was hurt but knowing this didn't changed the fact that he would hurt her more by staying or consoling with her.
But before he left, he turned around and closed in on her, he placed both his hands on her shoulders and kissed her forehead.
"I'm sorry."
Before Cookie could understand what happen, Uoron was long gone. She touched her forehead looked at his retreating back, smiling a bit then turned towards her friends.
"Hey guys! I'm going to go for a walk, this party's getting dull. Don't wait up for me, I'll catch up with you later alright?" she told them as cheerfully as she could.
Her friends knew what she was going to do today. They knew even without her explaining the result of her confession.
Instead of saying anything they just closed in on her and hugged her tightly.
Cookie got startled by their sudden action but she realized what her eyes might have shown and the obvious outcome of this scenario. She wanted to cry on their shoulders and seek their compassion and comfort but instead she hugged them tightly back.
"Thank you" she softly and gratefully said
They stayed a minute longer and gradually let go. She then left and went to her favorite park, sat on a swing recalling what just happened a few minutes ago.
Drop!
Rain was starting to pour; she covered her head, stood up and started running towards a nearby cottage with a thatched roof. The rain was starting to fall real hard. She ran a bit faster till she finally reached the cottage.
As though on cue, despite the downpour she could hear the distant song as it serenade her with its sad melody…
