Chapter 4 - The Test(2)

As they walked, following the veiled lady, they saw large buildings and arenas. In the arenas, there were some people fighting violently.

One was a dagger user who flew through the air while attacking her opponent. The other was a mage who cast a shell-like shield around himself made of air. They were both at least Moon realm mid-tier.

"When you enter the academy, they will be your seniors, you should strive to surpass them," said the veiled lady gesturing at the two that were duking it out in the middle of the arena.

"The second test will be guessing who will win. Choose, the dagger user or the mage?"

The dagger user's attack speed started to accelerate and the mage seemed to be weakening with his windy shell growing thinner. The choice was obvious.

The choices were written down onto pieces of paper and put in a box. After everyone had put their answer in the box, the veiled lady counted them.

"Out of the 17 people, 5 said the dagger user would win, the rest said that the mage would win. Those five people who said the mage would lose have failed the test. Please follow the shadow familiar to the exit," said the lady as she conjured a shadowy figure from her shadow.

"You can't just tell us we failed the test without seeing if the dagger user is really going to lose!" protested a tester.

The veiled lady chuckled, "I am the proctor of this test, I can fail whomever I'd like. However, to prove that you failed, let us see what the outcome of the battle before us is."

The dagger user was still accelerating and pushing off the walls to go faster and faster. Every time she went by the mage's shield, harsh screeching noises sounded as the dagger slashed at the windshield. The shield started to become thinner and the area of coverage seemed to be shrinking as time went on.

"See! The dagger user is definitely going to win," gestured a participant that failed. They started to talk again before they saw the mage create shackles made of wind and latch onto the dagger user. The dagger user's movement was stopped by the chains restraining her. The slashed at the shackles with her dagger, but it was futile. She could not get free. The mage pulled her toward him and chuckled as he conjured a large sword made of wind, pointing it at her throat.

"Admit defeat?"

The dagger user gritted her teeth and reluctantly forced out," I... admit defeat."

The person who protested earlier was shocked, "But how! The dagger user was going to win! How is this possible?"

"You can't tell yet? The mage was just tiring out his opponent so that they couldn't resist the chains later on!" said someone that passed the second test.

The veiled lady nodded at the tester, "Indeed. Now, those that failed, please follow the shadow familiar."

She turned to the rest of the group, "Please follow me to the next test. Try to keep up."

She started to walk, but she went as fast as if she was running. All of the participants started to chase after her, but she left some of them in the dust. Saiph closely followed the veiled lady in a leisurely jog.

The veiled lady was surprised to see that she was not breathing hard at all and did not seem to feel pressured at all.

The cloaked swordsman followed in a smooth jog, moving like a large cat. No sounds were heard from under the cloak's hood.

The curvy lady in red was slightly trailing behind, riding on a conjured fire spirit that was carrying a cushion upon which the lady sat on.

The two blonde twins were running next to each other encouraging each other to keep going.

The feminine boy was panting heavily as he ran as fast as he could, sweat was running down his delicate neck to his pale neck, some guys in the group looked away so that they wouldn't become bent sticks.

The young man from the train was running as fast as he could, muttering words of prayer to the gods above, asking for them to grant him the strength and willpower to get through the ordeal.

The rest of the group was running or jogging, trying to conserve their strength seeing the long trail in front of them.

Saiph was not tired at all and was used to running for long amounts of time due to her training as an assassin and her cultivation level.

Back when she was being trained, you had to run until the exercise was over or else you would lose points. Points were earned or lost from the classes and exercises the trainees took daily. The points went to your ranking. If you were the last in the ranking, you would be killed the next week. Every week, the numbers dwindled and the difficulty increased. By the time training was over, out of the 50 people, 10 were left.

After what seemed like an hour, a large modern building came into view, it was smooth and seemed to be constructed from glass and a magic silver metal.

On the way, three people had fainted or couldn't go on.

When they reached the base of the large building, the veiled lady announced, "Those that are still here have finished the 3rd test. We will be going onto the 4th test. The test will be assessing your mental health and judgment. Please do your best. A group of teachers will be assessing your decisions and will decide whether or not you should pass."

She pointed at the top of the structure the council will be sitting up there, watching your every move. Don't be superficial because they can tell. So, good luck, maybe I will see some of you later as a student in my class. Onwards young ones."
