Chereads / My Secret Date / Chapter 4 - Chapter 04.

Chapter 4 - Chapter 04.

Being international students our social circle was limited among ourselves and we didn't know the area geographically, as a result we rarely had weekend plans.

Time passed and it was already four weeks of me being in Winnipeg, so I just wanted to go out and do something. Before the weekend came, I was not thinking about many things, but it came to my mind that I wanted to have a talk with her, so I just sent her a message. I asked her if she was busy on the weekend and she answered that she wasn't. I knew that she also needed to read a book for doing homework so I suggested reading a book together and she said that would be good. I was so happy and even felt a little thankful.

So then I met her on the weekend, only the two of us. At first we went to eat lunch near our school and we talked about many things such as hobbies, our likes, life in each country, etc. She said she likes travel. She told me she likes to explore but she didn't know any more than me about Winnipeg. So I teased her about this many times after that. Her major is culture, specifically Italian. It sounded really interesting to me. First my major is history and as you know history deals with overall things in our life generally, and I'm also interested in culture. Second, when I was in my own country I worked in culture. For example I made plans for big events or festivals in my town, and I have worked as an assistant for directors in both a public company and a big private company. However when I asked her about this one, she almost always said she doesn't know because she is only in 2nd grade in her university and doesn't study specifically in her major. So, that was something else we joked about. Lastly she likes drinking. Last year she became an adult, at age 20. She hadn't tried beers many times when she was in her country, but she really wanted to drink and I said if I had a chance I would go to drink with her.

We met around 12 p.m. but we talked over 2 hours. I was really surprised because I'm not confident talking with someone for a long time but I didn't know that the time flew by so fast. So I told her at first we should concentrate on reading a book, and to finish quickly, then talk about our next plan. We went back inside of our school. We met our classmates who are a couple on the street. That situation was very strained. We greeted them first naturally to pretend that it was nothing, but they suspected that something more was going between us. While I was trying to cut their doubt she just laughed about the situation.

After we entered the school we studied for about two hours. Frankly speaking I couldn't focus my efforts on reading. When she sat on the chair, it was too so to her back didn't reach the back of the chair. So I told her because my chair was more comfortable and had the bigger back, I gave my chair to her. Fortunately her back reached on my chair and it looked more comfortable.

When it was time to have supper, I asked her what she wanted to do. She said her homestay parents worked on the weekend too because they are bus drivers, so, if she went back home she would need to wait for her parents to make supper. So I suggested that if then, there was a place I went to visit earlier that day named St. Boniface Cathedral, so going there for a while and going to eat dinner together. Without hesitation she said yes. She looked happy as she had a chance to visit a new place.

We went to visit there together by taking a bus. I gave her some information about it as much as I knew, and we took many photos together. Honestly I don't like to take pictures too much, I would rather like to take a video. But I knew most of girls like to leave their memory on photos and I also knew that she was not different from any other girls. I felt a little shyness taking a photo together, besides only two of us, however, I decided to do it any ways and I just was taken with her. Snow piled up too much near there, I ran into the snow and I took a photo of her at low angle. When I showed that photo to her, she laughed at a lot of snow put into my boots. But I didn't feel unhappy, I was just glad to make her smile.

Afterwards we went to the pizza restaurant to have dinner near the cathedral, When I heard that both of us like pizza and it was our common favorite. I ordered a pizza and added to order a bottle of beer. We enjoyed our dinner and we talked a lot. I told her about some manners in our country. I said If she meets a boy who comes from Korea, they will be helpful to her. For example if she wants to look more attractive, when he gives a good suggestion, she needs to reject at first and accept it the second time. I said someone who accepts other's suggestions is not charming. For the other example, I taught her how to do cheers in our country. In our country, for the young like the juniors in university or the inferiors in company I said when they have a drinking table with the old they should move their bottles lower than bottles of seniors or superiors. After this time whenever she went drinking with me she always moved her bottle lower than me. I said it is just manners so it was not demanding and she didn't have to follow them, but she always followed it. In my sight, it looked really bubbly. Whenever I did cheers with her I almost always couldn't help smiling. The last one was the manners about separated bills. Since I came to Canada I had known that paying by separated bills were commonly used. However, in our country, it is common that if someone invites the other on a date, one could pay all of the bill himself or herself. If the other felt uncomfortable about this, he or she could pay themselves next time, and I said we made a credible relationship by this process. Also after this time, we paid for each other alternatively.

When we were on the way to each other's home, we took a walk across the bridge on the Red River and The Forks. And when she arrived at home, she sent me a message that she arrived well and said thanks to me. Before that I had heard from her she couldn't sleep well these days, but she said today she could go to bed well. Before I came from my home I hadn't expected to have a nice date like this, but it was really nice date.
