How would you like to be in space this time of the year? I heard miracles have had happened when eyes look away from what they always fear. Such was the night of the lovely 1st December. The neighborhood deep in their sleep, the dreams everyone must be off dreaming. You can just feel that a quiet town in month of snowfall, where not a single soul walks out past midnight, is the perfect place for events that would go on to transpire.Â
It was as if the whole sky was swallowed in all the colors which were nothing like the colors ever seen in the small town of Lucian. The veil so translucent of colors green, violet, red and many with the tints unknown to eyes even beating the luster of the aurorean lights, glowing brighter in the shimmer of the stars behind but one must ask, How does an event like that come by in a city where the highlight of the year is but the summer festival. It was so bright that people of the town starred in awe, absolutely struck by the enigma of what the stars had brought them so I ask, How would you like to be in space this time of this year?
Out there in space, somewhere near the planets orbit, landed a train, but since there in no station there, it was obviously out of place but you see this very train was different. The train had no wheels, yet no thrusters either, the frame was seemingly made out of all the material that could shine gold but was not of origin of this world. It looked futuristic enough but had steam coming out of its chimneys. The steam had the particles that seemingly out shined the stars even, the core power source had to be hotter than the very stars that poured all their lights on to it for us to see. The particles interfering with the magnetic field caused the lights to happen but how specific to be there on this very town, or a way to say how very fateful.
As the people gathered around the lights and captured every bit of it, the event suddenly stopped, the show was over but the showrunner inside the very train was panicking like a manager who had lost their champion performer. He made the train disappear to camouflage, to hide from eyes that were stuck on it. Inside the train felt very non elegant, not well maintained at all, as if not cleaned since tens of years and in stark contrast stood the man, the driver, the conductor, in his pearl white clothes, the top hat white, long coat, white, pants, well again white. The shirt was the only thing black about his outfit. Only if he had a cane, would have looked like a proper Gentleman wouldn't he? The height though was quite abnormal, at 7 feet and the slender thin frame, you had think if he does not wear those clothes, he was just another eldritch horror. The meltdown of whom was quite comical. Running around looking for something he dropped somewhere, constantly checking his shiny pocket watch, because why not. At this point let me tell you of the tacky choices of having a silver buckle on the top hat, gold and silver broch on the coat which had his train etched on it and the golden chain of the watch that dangles by the pant. He was clearly stressed but he had to dock sooner or later, what is left is left behind as he disembarked from his train and just jumped down to earth as one obviously does.
The town that last saw shards of space debris falling, like meteorite from space that vanished halfway through the night, but the night had to keep on giving for there was one family of the Astor's. They were very modest family but the husband was quite the community helper. Antony Astor worked as a local importer of goods and mostly in the evenings was the man who managed the needs of the people since Lucian was out of way through the forests and the clearing of pathways was taking as long as forever to be done. He was going to need a lot of helping hand that night as his was Eliana Astor went into sudden labor. The man in all his panic ran out to get the car keys from the neighbors and if it was not for the glow of that night , the navigation through the forest was just impossible but it was as if all his prayers had been answered and they reached the hospital just in time. As his wife was taken to emergency ward, he stood there praying that all that was happening, going to happen, all shall come to pass as peacefully as the night again was going to be calm, He saw Mr. Conductor falling and assumed him to be a falling star, never religious that man but as the hours trickled down and the commotion died down, the sound of crying rang his ears like the sonnets of angels. He rushed to his wife in their allocated room and there lay his two angels. Baby girl had the lush goldilocks of her mother while the eyes green, deep, melancholic like the green that night was his's. He rushed to kiss his girls as his wife slept, and he looked after both of them through the night. Next two days went by in all the tests and checkups insuring both of them were safe as the talk of name came up, he had decided Noelle- Born on Christmas even if she was born on 2nd December. Eliana had thought of her nickname then- Nona. As Antony signed last of the paperwork, both of them sat pretty in the car. By night two days later they had reached back home as everyone had planned a birthday party for the young one.
The small party in their lobby was just about the most adorable thing as Noelle's thin little frame lay in the laps of her mother and everyone just took rounds blessing the kid and other kids brough the many gifts placing on Eliana's feet. Antony was busy discussing clearing the forest as he had feared the worst that night but then the bell suddenly rung. The weird thing of it was that everybody in town was already there so who would it be at this time in their neighborhood. He peeped through the door only to be blinded by shining light, who else could it be but the man, the myth, Mr. Conductor.Â
He looked rather scuffed that night, not his clothes though, ever so pristine. The face told the story of a man who was bound to be here but got delayed, by what can I only assume to misdirected navigation. Well that's what thoughtlessly jumping gets you but even then he had this box which he held like a delivery man and Antony was just scared looking at the size of the man, Antony was 5'7 so he thought maybe he felt that conductor was abnormally long but when David who is 6'1 stepped in, well they both looked pretty scared and were ready for confrontation but the man kept looking at the watch and as his watch chimed, he dropped the box at the door and dashed.
There was something off the moment the train reached the night sky two days ago, his eyes just kept wandering everywhere as if missing something but as he was running that day there he saw a shadow of who knows what, that scared the nightmares out of him. As his watch chimed louder and louder he tried running towards the shadow but till the time guys ran out of the house, the mystery man was already gone and the lights blanketed the sky yet again.Â
The train was about to leave the station, their was this tear that was growing ever so smaller, The speed reaching that of light itself, it was the veil that opened near the sun, his doorway here and wherever he was going next. The sweat on his face, the disgruntled look, he had lost something precious just there but the man was bound to places beyond these stresses .
As snowfall began and they entered inside the house with that box. It had no weight it was almost empty yet too skeptical to open it, everyone again took it outside and cut open the box. There lay a sweater specifically of lavender color with a golden thread that made the styling of the sweater, it was but a single thread. The odd thing about it was the thread was color of the hair of his little Nona but it was tad bit too big to fit her and as the party came to end, people of town insisted him to keep the sweater as a fateful gift, Antony never really believed in such things much but that night he kept it in the attic just to forget it.Â
Then again if it were fate then it had to have happen in nights like these so I ask again How would you like to be in space this time of the year?
