Chapter 70 - Chapter 69 - The Path Ahead

Luc and Élodie stood motionless in the midst of the ruins, their minds still reeling from the cryptic warnings they had received. The air around them felt dense, as if charged with a power far beyond their understanding. Despite the questions swirling in their minds, one thing was certain: the journey ahead would not be an easy one. But they had no choice but to move forward.

"We need to find this key," Luc said, breaking the silence. His voice was steady, but there was an unmistakable edge of determination in it. "The guardian said it's the only way to stop whatever is coming."

Élodie nodded, her eyes focused on the ground beneath them, where the symbols from the altar seemed to pulse with a faint, eerie glow. She felt an overwhelming sense of dread, but also a flicker of hope. They had been given a task—a monumental one—but it was a task nonetheless, and there was always hope in completing a purpose.

"But where do we even begin?" Élodie asked, her voice filled with uncertainty. "How are we supposed to find this key when we don't even know what it looks like or where it is?"

Luc glanced around, his gaze searching the ruins for any clue that might help them. The guardians' words still echoed in his mind—not all enemies wear a face you can see. It felt like a riddle, one that had yet to fully reveal itself.

"We follow the trail," he said slowly, a plan beginning to form in his mind. "The symbols on the ground… they might be a map. Maybe there's something here, something hidden, that we can use to guide us."

Élodie looked at him, her expression wary but resolute. "You really think these symbols will help us?"

"I don't know, but it's all we have," Luc replied. He bent down to examine the carvings more closely. The symbols appeared to be ancient, their lines intricate and curving in ways that didn't seem entirely of this world. They seemed to pulse with an unnatural rhythm, almost as if they were alive. He traced one of the patterns with his finger, feeling a faint warmth where his skin made contact with the stone.

The air seemed to shift again, as though the very fabric of reality was beginning to bend. Luc stood up quickly, drawing Élodie's attention to the sky. The clouds overhead were swirling, darkening with a heavy storm that was approaching from the horizon. But something about the way the clouds moved didn't seem natural. They churned, twisting as though guided by some unseen force.

"We need to move," Luc said urgently, his hand on his sword hilt. "I don't know what's coming, but it's not something we can face here."

Élodie nodded, her eyes scanning their surroundings for any sign of movement. The guardians' words haunted her mind, filling her with a sense of urgency. If the veils between the worlds were truly thinning, if there was an ancient force stirring in the darkness, they were running out of time.

Together, they turned and began to leave the ruins, their footsteps echoing against the ancient stone. As they walked, Luc felt an unease settle deep within him. The world around them was changing, and he wasn't sure they could stop it. The threats they faced were unlike anything they had ever imagined.

The path ahead was unclear, but one thing was certain: they couldn't turn back now.
