Chapter 5 - Being Hallie Torre

BEING HALLIE TORRE

"Jerald," Edna muttered again as she stared at him. Jerald had been away for just a month but to her, it had felt like years and in that period, she...had died.

"What....." Jerald pulled her away from him, looking very confused and at the same time, annoyed, "What the heck are you doing?" He squinted his eyes.

Okay, quick go through. Jerald Saint.

Heir to the third largest conglomerate in New York, JS Corporations. Hallie and Jerald hated each other. It was crazy fight but it has been on for years till the secret came out that Jerald was once Hallie's boyfriend in middle school. None of them attested to the scandal, but Edna knew. Jerald was her best friend and didn't hide anything from her. So she knew. And because of that fact, she knew being in Hallie's body meant they... would never, ever, get along.

"I missed you," she curled her lips.

Don't push your luck, Edna. You'll end up being a fool.

But it would still hurt if she found out she's the only one and Jerald isn't going to be her best friend anymore.

Jerald ran his eyes over her, before pushing her out of the way and walked into his classroom, his eyes roaming about.

"I've just been away for a month and what? Classroom's changed?" He blew his blonde fringes out of his eyes and stood, staring at everyone in the classroom without giving a single fvck.

"Yes, classroom's changed. You should go somewhere else," Marlo folded his hands, flexing his veins.

Hallie smiled, nodding her head as she relaxed on the wall slowly, about to watch the unfolding drama. Jerald was never going to agree to their conditions. She wondered if he knew she was dead. A shaky breath left her nostrils.

Logan lingered his gaze on her for a moment while she stared at Jerald and he blinked. Was Hallie's feelings for Jerald back? If it was, he better helped them get together.

"Why is that? I refuse to change my classroom." Jerald raised a brow, challenging Marlo to say a word.

Marlo charged forward but Neal's hand held him back tightly, "This is the principal's order. Only us six are allowed to stay here. I, Marlo, Kozette, Gray, Logan and Hallie," he said.

Bravo. Hallie's head was on a rollercoaster with Edna and Hallie arguing about whether to settle the matter or not.

"And why is that?" Jerald probed further.

"Jerald, please," Kozette begged.

"Please what? You tell me to leave my class for no fvcking reason and I do it? Fvck me if that happens," he shot and Kozette bit her lips slowly until she met Hallie's eyes, her brows furrowed with a hint of displeasure on her face.

"What?" She mouthed towards Hallie and she smirked in reply, her thumb going over her neck in an 'I'll kill you' sign and Kozette rolled her eyes, plopping on her seat in silence.

"I don't appreciate that, Hallie. You are looking like a clingy girlfriend," Jerald said, glancing towards her and she pouted lazily.

"But I'm not your girlfriend, am I? I'm your best friend," She said, hitting her chest and immediately Jerald's eyes flickered towards the spot where Edna's seat had been.

"Where's Edna?" He asked immediately.

Kozette looked away immediately, clearing her throat.

"Edna is on a leave," Gray looked at Hallie as he said that and Jerald turned.

"She's on a leave? Why should she be?" He asked, staring Hallie right in the eyes. She bit her lips tightly.

It's me. It's Edna. I'm in here.

She wished she could say that, but she couldn't. Apart from the fact that her vengeance would be cut short, no one would even believe her anyway.

"I...I...think so," Hallie cleared, playing with her shoes on the ground, before she rushed to her seat and sat down.

"Hallie..."

"I don't know where Edna is," Hallie cut off and he sighed, shaking his head.

"Fine. But just know I'm staying in this class, until you guys tell me what class Edna has been transfered to?"

"If you want to whine about your bestie, go somewhere else," Logan opened his mouth for the first time since the day started, "I'm trying to read."

Hallie scoffed, running her eyes over him. He was trying to read when a murder happened in his face? How were they all so comfortable with her being gone? To the extent that they turned the classroom into a VIP lounge? A classroom for the richest buds.

Edna might have been so happy to be out of the classroom if only it wasn't her death that was the cause.

-I'm gonna say it.

- Don't! Please, Edna, don't.

- No, I am. I don't think you have any right to question my decisions.

-But you are in my body!

- This would not have happened if you didn't kill me!

Hallie went mute and Edna thought it safe to say she had won. It was a fact.

"She's dead."

In an heartbeat, everyone turned to look at her, including Logan who had been pretending to be so engrossed in his books, while actually listening to all of their conversations.

"Are you crazy, Hallie?" Neal raised his eyebrows so high she thought the skin would have a tear but it was only for a fraction of a minute before they were down again, now furrowed tightly.

"Edna's dead. She was killed," she said and Jerald blinked, walking close to her. He was almost stumbling, even when there was nothing in his way. He rested his elbows on Hallie's desk as he neared her closely, his breath fanning her face.

"Fvcking repeat what you said," he said in a threatening voice and Hallie raised her eyes to meet his, undauntedly.

"I said Edna was killed," she said.

"How?" He asked, his face hardening but his voice was definitely failing. A part of him wanted to smack Hallie in the cheek and tell her to stop lying, but then, nothing was ever gonna make Edna leave school and if she heard he was back, she'll be here right now no matter what classroom she was taken too.

"I don't know the details," Hallie cocked her head, pursing her lips tightly.

Jerald nodded slowly, a light laughter erupting from his lips as he raised his head and turned, walking out of the class.

Hallie's gulped, thick saliva rushing down her throat. It was hard, she had to announce she was dead to him, because she knew. Jerald would do anything to find the murderer and maybe, he could help her take revenge.

Cos submitting the evidence would never be enough. Logan's father was the president and of course, can do anything to make an evidence become fake. It was one of the perks and that was why the citizens could only pray someone who.knows how to use that power in the right way comes in.

"Are you crazy, b*tch!" Marlo raised his hand, about to land a resounding slap on Hallie's cheek but Gray was quick to stand in-between.

"What the fvck are you trying to do? Slap my sis?" He asked.

Logan pushed his seat roughly, getting up and he took Hallie's hand, dragging her out of the class.

"Where are you taking me to?" Hallie shot, trying to wriggle her hand out but Logan's hold was very tight and hurtful.

"What are you doing, Logan? You should...." The rest of Gray's word were swallowed down by the chatters from the other classes they passed through and finally they appeared at the field.

"What are you doing?" Hallie's breath hitched as her eyes watered. Not the field. Not the field.

"Look at this," Logan let go of her hand, making her stagger to his front. Her heart quickened its beat and adrenaline rushed into her body. She couldn't move, she was hooked, her eyes glued on the exact spot she had hit her head on and then it had split open, ending her scream.

Edna gulped,not once, not twice.

Mom....mom... Not now. I can't come to you and dad and grandpa just yet. Not now.

It was getting hard. Getting hard to breathe. Her lungs were tight, they were refusing air. They were. Her eyes reddened as her stomach tightened and the tears finally poured out in torrents. Her body shook hardly, she was going to faint. She was too weak. She was going to faint.

One soul was terrified from the memory of dying, the other was terrified of the memory of killing.

-Edna! Open your eyes.

- No, Hallie. Take over..

With that, her body finally weakened and she slumped, falling onto the sandy ground as she gave in to unconsciousness.
