Chapter 4 - The Final Battle

I couldn't believe it—me, Simon, the skinny dude with a bony frame, had a girlfriend. And not just any girlfriend—a real beauty! Today, we had a date.

Her name was Jane Harper. We'd been together for four years. She was everything to me. Brown eyes, a cute button nose, slim and sweet. Her smile lit up the world, and her voice was soft and soothing. Her skin was smooth as silk, and she always smelled nice. The best part? She barely wore makeup. I've never liked girls with a mask of cosmetics on their faces.

I explained who I was and why I had come. She didn't believe me until she saw her own body.

"Let me stay on Earth," she pleaded. "I want to watch over Jane, help her."

I shook my head. "Souls that stay on Earth suffer. You'd hurt her without realizing it. Her soul would feel your presence but wouldn't understand."

"Then let me see her one last time," she asked.

I couldn't refuse. I nodded.

But I'd left the ring at home. Without it, I couldn't hide from mortals. And as I was trying to come up with a plan, the door to the morgue began to open…
